We went in one evening expecting to hear Trad as it was advertised and as live Trad nightly but sadly we heard the same music performed that we hear at home in the states daily. The musician was good but not what we came in for. They had a fire burning and the pub smelled of peat which was amazing!... More

My mother and I wandered Galway stoping wherever we found great food and great music. Monroe's was our last stop of the night and we had a blast with the engaged crowd, friendly bar tenders and excellent energetic music which was a mix of traditional tunes and pop favorites. I was lucky to find an excellent dance part and we... More

Monroe's seafood chowder was the best I've ever tasted, and that's quite a compliment considering all the great seafood on the West coast of Ireland.

This is such a friendly neighborhood pub. Everyone is so nice and the prices are good. They serve food and some items are good but for food there are better places. Ask for Bert if you are in he is so great and makes a mean Irish coffee.

The pizza here was average but the ice cold Heineken was great. Sat in a cosy booth, and lighting was good. Not too dark not too bright. Enjoyed friendly conversation with pleasant waitress. Bar tenders attentive and smiley. Nice big location if with group

I've been to Monroe's on two occasions, six years separated. If you like the venue in a town the size of Galway that is the most steadfast and conventional, stop at Monroe's. For Americans, it resembles the biggest, most popular "bar and eats" establishment in any big university town. And Galway is a university town full of tourists from all... More

Our very large party rented the upstairs area for dinner (a lovely buffet of stew). The stew was great (though they ran out of bread)! I heard the fish pie was a amazing as well! Dinner was followed by a traditional Irish band and Sean nos dancing. The upstairs of the places has multiple levels for seating and dancing. It... More

I stopped into Monroe's for a pint and the food looked good so I ordered the mussels. They tasted fine, but within a few hours I was the sickest I've ever been. "Woke up" the next morning feeling a bit better, but still feeling horrible. I put woke up in quotes as I didn't really get more that an hours... More

Dropped in early Friday evening to escape rain. Had a quick pint and found the staff to be friendly so decided to return later for dinner. The bar was a cosy retreat from the horrible weather. The clientele were of mixed ages. We enjoyed our food which is typical bar fare. We stayed for the music which was very enjoyable.... More

Had a great meal here on a Friday night - great portion size and presentation. Had the chicken strips (just to note these are a bit spicy if your not a fan!) Other meal was steak which was perfectly cooked. Overall it was a great meal with great service.
