"FUNKÉ" offers a tantalizing experience that captures the essence of the Caribbean islands and the rich cultural tapestry of the African diaspora right in the heart of Sligo. The restaurant is the heartfelt dream of Chef Funké Egberongbe, a talented and passionate culinary artist who journeyed from Nigeria as a refugee to Ireland. She and her family spent a decade in the challenging conditions of Direct Provision at Globe House in Sligo, where her culinary skills remained dormant due to restrictions on cooking."

WOW!! What a beautiful restaurant! We called in for lunch and first impressions were amazing, the decor and atmosphere and the super friendly and helpful guys who took time to explain the menu to us.
We had the Rasta pasta and Caribbean chicken curry, both dishes were amazing so fresh and such wonderful flavours. We also had the scotch egg which was fab.
The owner,Funke came by the table to chat, such a nice lady whose warmth and friendliness and passion for her business resonates through the restaurant and also with her sons who work front of house.
Highly recommend this gem of a restaurant! It’s a breath of fresh air to the culinary scene in Sligo.Can’t wait to come back. 😊

Do yourself a favour when in Sligo Town and visit Funké's place - authentic cuisine with something for everyone on the menu. You can tell these dishes are freashly prepared and made to order by someone who cares about what she puts on each plate.
It's something different and a welcome addition to Sligo's culinary scene!

We recently visited Funke’s restaurant and had a delicious meal. Neither of us had ever eaten authentic Afro Caribbean food before, so we were really looking forward to trying it out. We certainly weren’t disappointed. The food was really tasty at a good price. The service was fantastic and the restaurant is very well designed and laid out.
We are looking forward to bringing the whole family to Funke’s Afro Caribbean restaurant very soon to enjoy another delicious meal.

This review is to provide feedback for the owner/staff on how to improve and not to take this personally.
We were seated in good time despite us not making a reservation. One observation I seen was that the restaurant was empty and while looking at the menu, we seen a group come in and were refused a table regardless of the room being empty besides us. The staff told them " we are fully booked" one of the people in that group was a wheelchair user
Upon reading the menu, we found that a lot of the food items were overpriced, like for example €8.50 for CANNED soup?
After finishing the starters our plates were not taken until at least 20 minutes later and the staff were aware of it.
Service was incredibly slow, waiting 30 minutes for our main and we asked for the bill because of the long waiting time, very quickly after that we got served.
The waiter said the reason for the long wait was because of the group that came in before l, who were on their starters as we walked in and got seated.
When food was served it came off as lukewarm, nearly as if it was microwaved. It did not come across as fresh.
All in all, if the service was friendly, more time efficient and the food was fresh, I would return no problem.

"The best is the simplest that works." Funke effortlessly espouses this analogy to Albert Einstein famous quote.
The restaurant did not expect too many visitors on a sober Sunday evening, but if it was Dublin - It could have been mayhem considering the awesomeness it serves.
The Chef, who I believe is also the owner came over to us and asked if we can handle spice and we requested her to notch it up to the highest bit.
We started with the fried plantains with some supremely spicy and equally tasty tomato sauce. We followed that with some Goat and Chicken curry with mixed rice.
Honestly, it felt like home. Comfort food at its best!!
Its a pity we cannot find a restaurant of this calibre in Dublin City.
Funke - if you ever happen to open one in Dublin - please reserve a table for us every weekend!
Thanks Funke and we will always remember you.

The food at Funke's is phenomenal. We had the curried goat and the jerk chicken with jollof rice with fried plaintains and coleslaw on the side. Every element of the meal was cooked perfectly. The goat was tender and the curry beautifully seasoned. The jerk chicken was juicy, flavourful, and fell right off the bone. The jollof was delicious. The portion sizes were generous and we both left feeling very full and content. We were also lucky enough to meet the owner she was lovely and so attentive. Her enthusiasm and passion for the food was infectious. We can't wait to go back again, especially as the menu is expanding soon. I'm already thinking about the roti that will soon be on the menu!

Excellent “Curry goat” with Rice and “Peas “
( Black eyed beans ) and a side of perfectly fried ripe plantain .
Asked for the goat curry to be made spicy and it was fantastic
Certainly the best and most authentic Caribbean meal I’ve had in Europe .
Good portions and excellent service
Will be back!

popped in for lunch and what a surprise, the food wasn't just good, it was amazing. What a great addition to Sligo's culinary offerings. The menu may not be huge but its such a treat to get such authentic dishes at a very good price. Will most definitely be back.

Having returned recently gotten married and on our honeymoon we were in need of some African food. This is definitely the place to go. African food is beautifully spiced which we love. The mains are huge as we had the jollof rice, plantains, beef with turkey and Moi-moi with tasted like pure heaven just delish and beautifully presented. Came back and ordered the Catfish pepper soup could not fault the food and all washed down with African drinks. This place is a gem in the middle of the shopping center plus the staff are 💯 percent professional. This restaurant can’t go wrong.

Highly recommend! So far have had the goat curry, beef skewers, cheeta’s rice, and the jollof rice and they have all been delicious! The meat is always cooked perfectly and falls apart in your mouth! Great service as well everyone in there is so lovely and smiley:) I would add photos but I ate my food before I could take them

Absolutely incredible food! I had the fish curry with the pineapple salsa, and it was exquisite; beautifully flavoured, cooked to perfection, and a generous portion!
Funke is a beautiful host, she went out of her way to ensure I felt looked after.
This place is worth travelling to!

Came upon this restaurant by chance, waited for it to open for lunch and wasn't disappointed (You should highlight your gluten free friendly menu more, on your own website and trip advisor) The kids loved their jerk chicken and sayu spice bag - lovely to see them try new food.
My meal was lovely (Rasta Pasta) but I'm sorry I didn't order plantains and jerk chicken for myself. We'll be back for sure.

We had a tasty relaxing lunch here and thoroughly enjoyed meeting the chef and owner of this family-run restaurant. The fish curry was yummy. We were surprised to see scotch egg on the menu but it was the perfect starter salad. Don’t miss!

We tried Funke today for the first time. The service was excellent and the food was super tasty. I had the Caribbean chicken curry and my husband had the jerk chicken with jollof rice. Both dishes were full of flavour. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this super new edition to the culinary offers in Sligo.

Just had my best meal of the year so far, in Funké, Sligo. Spicy Jollof, succulent and flavourful jerk chicken, delicious fried plantain and a great pineapple salsa. Whatever she puts in that sauce is magical.
Happiest food I’ve had in months.
