Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have been to the Talbot on a few occasions for the food and it's always excellent, fresh and piping hot. The beer is well kept and tastes great, the staff are very friendly and the local's are welcoming. On this visit to the pub it's had a makeover, beautifully decorated and clean throughout.

With the current situation there is no need to worry when visiting The Talbot. The safety measures in place are excellent and reassuring. This makes for a relaxed evening to enjoy the wide selection of tasty food available. Well done John and Jess

What an absolute find..we stopped here for lunch and a couple of real ales, so so nice. The girls behind the bar were so nice as was the chef who we also got to meet. We looked at the menu for our evening meal, and Becca recommended the homemade Beef, guiness and stilton pie. Well I'm not a fan of stilton cheese however the chef brought us a small dish with a few pieces of the meat with the stilton. It was really nice and to my mind I could not taste the stilton. The atmosphere in this little pub was amazing, it was packed on Saturday night and everyone appeared to be eating. We came in for a drink on the Sunday and I have to admit the sunday roast looked delicious.

Stopped off here on a break from a long journey from Hull to Essex. Really great pub, friendly service and had a really decent food menu, and some good beers. The burger looked amazing, the hunters chicken was large and well cooked and presented. I had the chicken and ham pie with chips and veg. Real proper chips too! Lovely pie and plenty of thick gravy. The staff were really helpful and welcomed us, even with a 7 month old, who sat well in his high chair! A great evening and a great break from the driving. Really Recommended

We pre booked a table as there were 8 in our party. Really nice meal, mushroom with stilton starter lovely! Various mains, gammon, lasagne, ham egg and chips, scampi all good. Chocolate fudge cake and apple crumble lovely! The cosy pub serves traditional pub food and is not expensive. Warm welcome from the lady who served us.

Dropped in to The Talbot Inn for Sunday Lunch and topped up the DNA whilst we were there. (Now that’s a decent ale) Enjoyed a very generous plate of thick cut slices of wonderfully rare roast beef with truly homemade roasties, crispy Yorkie, a selection of seasonal vegetables and all with a bit of life left in them. Service was very warm and welcoming with mine hosts enjoying a moment or two of light banter with customers. Would certainly recommend the Talbot Inn so to avoid disappointment, reserve a table.

We have stayed here on a couple of occasions over the past few weeks, in our Campervan whilst travelling en-route down the A1. It is a traditional village pub, that serves a selection of Ales together with an extensive menu. We use to live in Stilton many years ago, and so was delighted when visiting again after some 30 years, that the pub was still very much the centre of the village. There was a very warm welcome from the bar staff, and the landlord was busy in the kitchen making everything happen. The food is all freshly prepared and is presented beautifully. We will certainly be going back when next up in the area.

Dear Poshvan2, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visits to the Talbot, I'm pleased you found the pub to be welcoming and enjoyed your food and our selection of Ales. The village pub should be a central hub for the community, so was pleased to hear that the pub is still seen as the centre of the village as it was 30 years ago when you lived in Stilton. Hope to welcome you back again really soon. Kind Regards John

This is just one of the consistently great places we keep returning to. It's steady Eddy pub food from a traditional English pub with well kept beer and no nonsense. The homemade pies are a real treat, the fish and chips are just banging. The whole menu deserves its place at the Talbot Inn. (Please watch out for the new 20 MPH limits - Here Dragons abound)

We popped in for a quick drink, very welcoming landlord, very busy early evening, friendly staff. A lovely sauvignon blanc for my other half, they also had Young's original for me, a real treat, we had intended on Just the one, but stayed for more, really enjoyed it. Well worth a visit.

We ate here on the off chance as we were staying nearby and we were not disappointed. It was steak night so there was an excellent T-bone steak bargain. Selection of beers good as were the gins. Service very friendly and overall great value. Will definitely return when in the area.

Very unassuming pub, very popular with locals. We chose the steak,Guinness and Stilton pie, and the chicken, ham and mushroom pie. They were absolutely delicious. Homemade with gorgeous thick gravy and lovely chips. Veg was frozen but ok. Then we had the cheeseboard which was plentiful. Great food, great prices!

Driving down the A1 and thought we'd break the journey with some lunch. Called the Talbot who were able to fit us in. Lovely warm welcome on our arrival by the lovely barmaid. Food was delicious, I had nut roast and my husband chicken. Delicious and great value for money. We will definitely make this a regular on our way back from the North. Thanks.

Thank you so much for hosting us on our way to Yorkshire from Strasbourg, we arrived at 01:30hrs in the morning but we were still greeted and allowed to stay at this ideal BritStop. The location is very handy just off the A1, it’s safe and quiet so ideal. We will stop again when we have time and look forward to taking advantage of the pub food. NotAnotherStatistic
