Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Read about this pub as serving home cooked food and was looking forward to enjoying an evening meal there. How disappointed I was to start my steak meal to find the 8oz rump steak was in two small, pieces and only just warm. The peas and mushrooms...were of the same temperature. Not home made chips either but at least these were a little warmer.I didn’t manage to attract the waiter neither did anyone ask if everything was ok. When collecting the dirty plates I mentioned this to the assistant who said Oh I’ll let the chef know.Expecting her to give me some feedback as to what had happened we waited some time.As she didn’t respond my husband went to her to pay the bill and asked her for an answer to which she said oh the chef says the steak often splits like that. The 2 Pieces were clearly not from the same piece and no answer about the steak being cold.We were charged full price for our meal and no apology I might add that the menu’s on the internet were steak @£11.50 And the menu they were using charged£13.50.Don’t go there unless you want to be disappointed.More

We've eaten here several times as a pit stop on the A1M and each time has been great. Food is very good, reasonably priced and the staff are cheerful. We'll be back! 🙂

This is just one of the consistently great places we keep returning to. It's steady Eddy pub food from a traditional English pub with well kept beer and no nonsense. The homemade pies are a real treat, the fish and chips are just banging. The...whole menu deserves its place at the Talbot Inn. (Please watch out for the new 20 MPH limits - Here Dragons abound)More

It’s ok, that’s the best description I can give. We were waiting quite a long time for food but had been advised of wait- when it arrived it was very average but then it was cheap. Unfortunately my veggie option chilli was so hot I...couldn’t eat it- and that’s not me being an annoying veggie, my husband- who likes it hot spice wise- agreed amount of jalapeños and level of spice made it tasteless and uncomfortable to eat. A shame and maybe if I’d had something different I’d have been able to eat it. Advised staff who said usually people say it’s not hot enough(!?!) but didn’t offer an apology or concession- we didn’t make a fuss as just won’t go again.More

Thank you so much for hosting us on our way to Yorkshire from Strasbourg, we arrived at 01:30hrs in the morning but we were still greeted and allowed to stay at this ideal BritStop. The location is very handy just off the A1, it’s safe...and quiet so ideal. We will stop again when we have time and look forward to taking advantage of the pub food. NotAnotherStatisticMore

Very unassuming pub, very popular with locals. We chose the steak,Guinness and Stilton pie, and the chicken, ham and mushroom pie. They were absolutely delicious. Homemade with gorgeous thick gravy and lovely chips. Veg was frozen but ok. Then we had the cheeseboard which was plentiful....Great food, great prices!More

Driving down the A1 and thought we'd break the journey with some lunch. Called the Talbot who were able to fit us in. Lovely warm welcome on our arrival by the lovely barmaid. Food was delicious, I had nut roast and my husband chicken. Delicious...and great value for money. We will definitely make this a regular on our way back from the North. Thanks.More

Dropped in to The Talbot Inn for Sunday Lunch and topped up the DNA whilst we were there. (Now that’s a decent ale) Enjoyed a very generous plate of thick cut slices of wonderfully rare roast beef with truly homemade roasties, crispy Yorkie, a selection...of seasonal vegetables and all with a bit of life left in them. Service was very warm and welcoming with mine hosts enjoying a moment or two of light banter with customers. Would certainly recommend the Talbot Inn so to avoid disappointment, reserve a table.More

We stopped here through Brit Stops. We parked in their car park and then ate in the restaurant. The meal was excellent and extremely good value, we had hunters chicken and steak and Stilton pie, both really good, apple pie to follow which was also...very good. The staff were extremely attentive and could not do enough to help. Well done everyone at The Talbot, we will certainly be back if we are travelling the A1 so convenient for a stopover.More

Evening, Unfortunately we don't allow dogs in the pub. They are however more than welcome in the garden and patio areas (I know this isn't a great option at present with weather). Kind Regards John
