Dariusdave’s Pennine Explorer continues Wednesday 16th September after a canal trip from Shipley we reached Harrogate by coach in time for a late lunch. Strolled to Montpellier Mews Antique Market and sighted small blackboard notice on pavement for Jenny’s Tea Shop. Eldest daughter is Jenny so fate dictates must give it a try. Dariusdave is awaiting a replacement knee walks with a stick and finds standing in queues difficult. Entrance, amongst antique shops, disguised by Covid precautions, is challenging. Customers have to spot the freestanding board, ring the ancient bicycle bell and wait in the open air. A friendly lass appeared unhooked a green rope and welcomed Dariusdave to the only free single table inside circa 13:05. Passed a laminated menu and allowed Dariusdave to read. Jenny’s Tea Shop has tables inside and under large patio umbrellas outside. Menus are laminated and sanitised before being passed to new customers. I observed very strict Covid precautions and felt totally safe even if premises are bijou. This is a classic family business, everyone works very hard together offering a no-nonsense menu of real food. Young lass welcomes customers, takes orders cleans tables. Tall man brings out cooked food and works in kitchen as well as his mom. I tested flexibility and asked for cheese and bacon jacket potato with salad (menu had different combinations). What arrived was a cornucopia of delights. Two small jacket potatoes, because Sept too early for larger new maincrop potatoes which will arrive later. A fantastic fresh salad: - various greens, toms, red onion, peppers, grated carrot and cucumber, plus a very Yorkshire item crisps. See photos. Jacket skins crisp as I like them and was offered sachets of mayo but real treat a very small jug of vinaigrette dressing very tasty. Normally that would be a very good lunch, but after ordering while waiting for main to be served I read a few trip advisor reviews on my phone. There was a consensus that the Coffee & Walnut cake was a house special. Plus, menu mentioned all coffees were made with fresh ground beans. Couldn’t resist the temptation to have an early afternoon coffee and cake. See photo, home-made cake texture distinct coffee flavour with large walnut pieces. Waitress ascertained for me beans were Douwe Egberts, these Dutch men having been selling coffee products since 1753. Both cake and coffee (black no sugar) were really yummie, sheer indulgence. Dariusdave has passed his 3 score years and 10, this was a first visit to Harrogate. Should I visit again will definitely return to Jenny’s Tea Shop.

Visited here (pre booked) for afternoon tea with a few friends. Couldn't fault it. The man who served us was polite and great fun. The afternoon tea was delicious and well worth the money - what we couldn't manage to eat, was wrapped upto take home. Food that was being served to other tables also looked very nice and takeaway seemed to be very popular. Thanks for a great afternoon.... Will definitely return. ☺️

This little place is tucked away in the heart of the Montpellier Mews, close to the centre of the historic Spa Town. It is easy to miss, but worth the small effort to find. There are only 3 indoor tables available in our Covid-19 world, with 2 tables outside under umbrellas. It serves a good selection of luncheon and teatime fare, snacks, cakes, hot and cold beverages. Service was efficient with orders delivered promptly. It is reasonably priced for the locality. Altogether a nice find, and it beats standing in a long queue, in the rain, waiting for a table in more well-known nearby establishments. Major Credit Cards are accepted.

Cosy, tearoom in a quiet square in central Harrogate. Service brisk and efficient. Lunch time so Ploughman’s seemed a good option. Generous portions but I’d swap quantity for quality. 3 pieces of supermarket, flavourless and immature cheese accompanied, not by proper ham but a slice of what I think is called, reconstituted ham. It remained on the side of my plate. Pork pie was also average. If I had been in a pub this would have been an acceptable Ploughman’s but not here. In a specialist tea shop I would also expect loose leaf tea, not teabags. My wife had the tea whilst I had Americano coffee which was properly made. The worst shock was the lavatories, so small that there was no social distancing when I was pressed against the lav door whilst a very large gentleman attempted to exit. Wash basin, door knob, loo paper and air dryer all within about 2 feet of each other. If you are squeamish about Covid then don’t visit these lavatories!

Hi I am really sorry about youre experience at Jenny’s. Unfortunately we share the toilets with a restaurant and we cannot do anything about the size. We will take on board your comments regarding the ploughman’s. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Such a cute small tea room. Don’t need to book, we turned up when it was quite busy but still was seated and served quickly. Amazing food, absolutely no complaints. One of the best afternoon teas I have ever had and it was only £28 for two people which is a bargain for what you get. I know Harrogate is known for Bettys afternoon tea however I would definitely recommend this over Bettys any day. If you go to Harrogate, you need to go here!

We were on a day trip to Harrogate looking for somewhere to have an afternoon snack and came upon this lovely tearoom, the staff were very pleasant and attentive. We had tea and coffee with Victoria sponge and lemon cakes, both were lovely as were the drinks, the prices were very reasonable and offered great value for money, especially when compared to the nearby Betty's tearoom. If we ever find ourselves in Harrogate we will come back to this great little find.

On a very cold Wednesday morning in Harrogate we came across this delightfully quirky cafe in Montpellier Mews. Enjoyed deliciously smooth hot chocolate served in generous sized mugs. Would definitely return.

We visited here after a very blustery walk in the rain as well as storm Dudley. I had the homemade quiche and husband had the chilli abs baked potato and it was delicious - really nice ambience and we were made to feel very welcome. Much better than queuing for Betty’s tea room in the wind and rain.

We booked here for afternoon tea as we had been reading where was good places to go for an afternoon tea. We had been a few years ago to Betty's Tearoom in York and had the Christmas afternoon tea and so didnt want to go there. We read that this lovely little tea shop did a very nice afternoon tea and their scones and cakes were all home-made and delicious. We were not disappointed, it was all really very nice. The scones in particular were delicious. Lovely small tea room and lovely decor inside and it was quite busy with people coming in for cooked meals and drinks and cakes etc. Lovely people running it too.

The cafe itself is cute and quirky and is in a beautiful location. The decor inside is very nice and the cafe is clean. It looks very appealing from the outside. However, our experience was underwhelming. Limited food options. Poor value for price paid. We paid upfront but then the staff kept saying that the things we had ordered were unavailable and changing the order.

I’m sorry to hear we were out of stock with some of your menu choices but we would never ask for payment up front and would be happy to refund if we had no suitable alternative.

Saw the establishment on google map and we were so glad I did. Not on the beaten track so no long guess to get in, not like some other place. A great cup of tea, plenty of homemade cakes to choose from and all served by a fantastic couple. Sit inside or outside take as long as you like, have another cup of tea, or coffee, try a different slice of cake. Just remember to leave around 16:00.

Lovely quiet location. Staff really attentive and friendly, this was my first visit to the tea room but if I am ever in Harrogate again I will definitely be returning. We had an afternoon tea and the serving was more than ample we had to request a take out so we wouldn’t waste the delicious food

A wonderful and friendly staff greeted us at this small tea room with indoor and outdoor seating 5 mins walk from the centre of Harrogate. We called in for afternoon tea and was delighted with what they had to offer. The sandwiches were served with salad and the scones fruit or cheese were home made and came with butter, jam and cream. Without doubt some of the best we had ever tasted.

Tiny tiny muffin with tiny bit of scrambled eggs. They were out of salmon but charged the same price for having it only with scrambled eggs. Bacon was not an option for me. Had to ask for pepper and salt/sauce because had no taste at all. Which was brought in small sackets (to be teared so went all over table). Plate was too small to use knife and fork so some of the tiny dish fell off the plate right on the floor. Forgot to bring tge small side salad but this was noticed by someone so came later. This had too much mayonaise for me. Had to go for lunch somewhere else because of this was defo no proper lunch dish. Not worth paying 8.80. Would not recommend this place to friends. Not worth your money. There are so many other places to go to in Harrogate. Cakes looked okay.

We discovered this place on an antique hunt and were pleased we did. We'd already had a big breakfast so a tip would be not to do so if you're intending to visit. My wife had the jam and clotted cream scone, while I had the tuna melt panini. This arrived with coleslaw, salad and crisps, which I managed to munch through eventually. The tea came with an extra pot of hot water, always a good thing. Whether you consider £8.40 a lot for a sandwich is up to you, but it's about the going rate, and the surroundings, well you could be in the Med.... We sat outside and it's wheelchair friendly, but beware of the cobblestone entrance to the courtyard which can take some navigating.
