Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As on every previous visit, the hosts at the Tall Ships did not let us down. We had not booked but needed lunch for six on New Year's Eve, and this is a haven in the historic dock-yard quarter, where we were welcomed warmly by the hosts. Freshly baked bread, including turmeric, was served first and the service was speedy and friendly. Although there was an excellent English menu, we all opted for the very reasonably priced Sea Food Specials Menu" - the crab was especially fine and as fresh as a daisy ~ and importantly so too. It compared most favourably with similar dishes we have experienced all over the world. It was very reasonably priced, there was nothing pretentious and the service was perfect, clearly family led. The premises were spotless, as was the gleaming kitchen, clearly visible if one goes in via the back door, through a courtyard which would be perfect for al fresco dining in the summer. Gloucester should be proud of this establishment and its high standard of excellence. Go and find out for yourselves and spread the word!

We visited for my birthday, me and my husband. Both had seafood dishes, starters and mains. Everything was cooked to perfection and was very fairly priced, infact I would have paid more as the quality of the seafood was exceptional. Will definitely be returning in the future.

Visited the Tall Ships for lunch on Saturday 5th September and we both thought it was great. Friendly staff, good location close to the docks, very clean with good COVID precautions. The food was amazing ! We shared a beautiful dressed crab with delicious home made bread, followed by a generous plate of the lemon sole goujons each with fabulously crispy chips an a delicious salad. Very reasonably priced. If I lived in Gloucester I’d eat there every week !

Not a lot to say other than some of the best seafood I’ve tasted.. not the poshest establishment in the docks or quays but always a quiet and relaxed happy atmosphere, staff always lovely and the food... knocks all of the other restaurants, no matter how posh their menus may seem, out of the water. Locally sourced produce too.. everything fresh.. I’m a foodie.. my fave. 💯

Had a really lovely meal here tonight. They are very safety conscious and do track and trace. We both had the steak which had a lovely flavour and was huge! The fries were also fresh, crisp and tasty. There were some really original desserts - we had the pear and blueberry cheesecake and the orange pancakes. Both were delicious. The Tall Ship feels like a traditional pub but the food is definitely not pub grub! The menu is original and very high quality. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming. We will come back next time we are in Gloucester.

We came here as part of our 5 year wedding anniversary holiday and were chuffed to bits! We only walked in on the off chance after looking at wetherspoons and seeing it chocked full of people. The food here is amazing (the chips are hand made and delicious), the portion sizes are a good reflection on the price. Prices are very fair and the staff are personable and welcoming. Please be sure to ask about anything you need as they've not long since opened after the lockdown and so the menus etc... Are a bit different, and they're happy to answer any questions. Thank you for having us 🙂

Called in for lunch and chose Gurnard although never had it before. It was really good and the home made chips were perfect crispy and fluffy. Good ale too. The staff were very friendly and professional, highly recommended.

Dropped in to try Mr Yips food that is advertised. I have to say that this is the best pub food I have eaten in Gloucester in years. The belly pork special is to die for. Large portions of well cooked food for a very reasonable price. If you like your food this is the place for you.

Came here with my partner not too long ago, whilst visiting the area, we were met by a handsome furry bartender and a great vibe, we both had seitan burgers from the vegan menu and they were top shelf. Would 100% recommend this place, they passed the vibe check, catered to a number of different customers and left us both feeling great. Thanks for having us guys, hope to come back soon!

Was in Gloucester for the Strongman Champions League, walked past and immediately it looks nice and inviting, so I went in. Had beers on the Thursday and then beers and food Friday and Saturday. Loved the place. Recently taken over and refurbished, and you can tell the guys are really making an effort to make a go of it. Welcoming and chatty staff, I tend to just chat randomness, and they put up with me and were very welcoming. Food was great, with chef matey doing a good range of Asian fusion food (he came out and pottered about and I chatted to him, nice fella) good range of beers and just a good place to spend some time if you’re in Gloucester. If the Champions League goes back next year I’ll be straight back in The Tall Ship. If you’re reading this Sam, cheers fella.

Was looking forward to some Asian street food but was sadly disappointed. Everything on the menu appeared to come with chips which I found odd. We ordered a variety of dishes, they all tasted the same, I have had more flavour in a pot noodle in my student days. Add to that the food was Luke warm at best and and the plates were stone cold. Bar service was slow with numerous drinks not available. Total date of money, best to go elsewhere

What a delightful evening we’ve had tonight in the newly refurbished Tall Ship at Gloucester Quays. The place was buzzing, lively but plenty of space, busy but all the staff were friendly and attentive. The food was something special, looked so appealing on the plate and tasted fabulous, hot, tasty and perfect portions. Thanks for a great evening, coming back soon!!

Just eaten one of the best Sunday roasts I’ve had. Lamb, roast potatoes and parsnips, separate dishes of cauliflower cheese and a good selection of vegetables. Everything was piping hot and tasty. Chef Dom doing a cracking job in the kitchen and Vanessa, friendly and attentive front of house. Make sure to book!!

Decided to try out the new chef at The Tall Ships. Went for a Sunday roast, and what a fabulous meal we had. Roast beef with all the trimmings cooked to perfection, fully/crispy roasters and a lovely selection of fresh veggies. So much food we couldn’t even clear our plates. We will definitely be coming back very soon 10/10

Visited twice as it was so good. Doesn't look much from the outside and basic inside but the service and food are outstanding. A great range of food particularly fish. Not a large range of beers but a couple on draught. Landlady and bar staff very friendly, chatty and helpful. Will accommodate most reasonable requests. Definitely worth a visit, Adheres to all covid regulations Sardines were great, but so was the chicken and lemon sole!
