Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We booked for a festive menu for 8. The quality of food and service was excellent. The decorated table was lovely with seat planners already printed with our food orders. Would recommend her for Christmas party groups. Staff were very engaging which made it a...pleasure.More

Overly impressed with the staff - friendly, attentive and very personable. We especially warmed to the waiter (you only get him at weekends as he’s studying during the week). Sunday lunch was delicious, roast potatoes especially good. Reasonable prices so next time in Gloucester this...will be our spot. Thank you to all the staff involved in making our visit memorable. Top marks.More

Had a meal last night before a concert at the Cathedral. Very good food, staff that care and generally a lovely feel to the place, buzzing with customers. Great evening thank you. We will definitely eat here again

Advised to go to the Fountain by someone we talked to in the cathedral. Up the cathedral close, turn left onto Westgate St and it’s on your right down an alley. Full of customers as lunchtime but we (2 plus pooch) were found a table....Dog bowl of water brought. Dog treats in a jar on the bar. I chose the Jail Ale which was really good. We shared a generous burger and chips. Pub had a mixture of locals and visitors. Service was attentive and the range of decent beers was pretty good. If I was in Gloucester again, I would head for this pub just for the beer.More

This is a hidden gem off Gloucester High Street. We were greeted with such warmth and made to feel so welcome by all members of staff. The dog was treated like a prince! Fresh bowl of water, treats and some meat brought to the table...for him!!! We didn’t really look too much at the menu as we wanted a Sunday dinner. The food was really lovely and very reasonably priced. Thank you for such a lovely meal. We will be back.More

The Fountain Inn in Gloucester is situated in a nice part of the city centre, very near the beautiful cathedral. The interior of the pub really does, as advertised, look like a country pub. It's small inside but has two dining areas, so for meals...it accommodates more than appears to be the case on first impression. The food is absolutely first rate quality and a very reasonable price. Whilst the pub feels warm and inviting and the other patrons we meet are often friendly, as regular visitors we've unfortunately found that the same can occasionally not be said for many of the staff. Whilst service at the bar is usually quick and we're tended to at table very diligently, many of the staff, regardless of age, can be monosyllabic when spoken to, can come across as sullen and can occasionally even be quite rude and brusque in response to friendly enquiries or order requests - especially when they're busy. This is a shame for a pub which otherwise faultless.More

The most amazing Inn. We emailed in the week to say we were hoping to book Sunday lunch, but travelling up from Penzance in Cornwall for the day, with a large Irish Setter. They made a reservation for 2.30pm, allocated us a table with plenty...of room for our dog. The roast was delicious, very generous and well priced, pudding was also delicious and very large!! the staff were helpful and friendly ( and fussed the dog lots!) We are definitely planning on making a return visit. Highly recommended.More

This is the first time we have had a bad experience here. Such a shame I was were taking family visitors out for lunch. Myself and my husband both ordered no salad or veg with our mains. Mine came out first with a plate full...of salad so I returned it to get it removed. My husband's came out next, again with a plate full of salad. Again we returned it and well what was left on the plate wouldn't feed a child. In the past when he has asked for nothing green, they have added a few more chips. He had about 10 chips after the salad had been removed. He asked the very grumpy waitress if he could have a few more chips. She took the plate away again, but it came back looking exactly the same. She then came back and said what's the problem, do you want to speak the the manager? My husband said yes. The excuse was that they can't change what's on the menu. What is so difficult about not putting something on a plate? The reason I asked for no salad is I don't have dressing. I was told in the past that I couldn't have salad without it. Do they want to waste food?More

Been here before a year ago and was delighted with the food and service. This time unfortunately was the exact opposite. My wife ordered a vegetarian lunch which was excellent. I ordered chicken burger and chips but no salad as I cannot eat it. When...the meal arrived I had approximately 12 chips and three quarters of a plate of salad. The five people on the next table had also ordered no salad but had vast amounts on the plates. When they complained I took the opportunity to also complain. The five customers were loud in their complaints and had the salad removed from their plates. I was polite in comparison and was told that the kitchen was short staffed and the assistant chef automatically puts plenty of salad on every plate, regardless of what a customer had ordered. I ate the chicken and tiny portion of chips and went to pay the bill. The gentleman who I paid asked me how the meal was and, because my wife's meal was faultless, I told him it was so-so. When he pressed me on this I explained about the huge three quarters plate of salad which I had specifically requested not to have. To my astonishment he told me that was just my opinion and that nobody else had ever complained, so tough! I was taken aback by this and pointed out that the customers on the table next to mine also had the same complaint, to which he told me that was my opinion and counts for nothing. This extreme and totally unwarranted rudeness did not go unnoticed by a group of customers sitting at a nearby table who shook their heads at the person's attitude and one of whom told me to ignore the man's attitude which she said was typical of today. My advice to this establishment is to change their approach and attitude towards their customers if they have any sense of customer service. Being rude and dismissive is not necessary, especially after I was quite content to pay my bill and not say anything but was pressed by a staff member. And to blame 'staff shortage' for a chef to almost fill every plate with salad as a default procedure is simply nonsensical. My wife and myself may be just a tiny cog in your business but we deserve to be treated as customers, not treated with disdain and rudeness. Not least because for the past 23 years we have owned and built up one of the most popular restaurants in Barbados, so we DO know what we are talking about.More

Called on spec. Needed help with food intolerances. The boss was so helpful and we both had just what we needed and great taste. Not so struck on the Merdi lager though. But that’s a personal taste. Very worthwhile eating place.

Lovely ancient pub in its own courtyard down an alleyway off Westgate Street. Lots of old beams but not cluttered with objects. Good food, all old favourites, reasonably priced. Friendly staff.

Was in Gloucester recently on a solo visit. Popped into a shop who recommended the 'pub next door' for something to eat. Glad I took her suggestion as I was highly impressed. Extensive menu so spoilt for choice (ended up with a stilton/burger) , friendly...bar staff, great relaxing pub & the food was excellent> have to say the chips were the best I have ever had (compliments to the chef!)! Was hoping to stop by on my way home a couple of days later but unfortunately for me, the bar had a queue a 'mile' long so I abandoned the idea. Will definitely be heading there again the next time I am in Gloucester. So yeh, this is one pub I would definitely recommend.More

Hi, Would be surprised if they only did a roast but guess a quick call would let you know. If the Sunday roast is anything like the other food, it will be excellent. Good luck and hope you enjoy.
