We enjoyed a drink in this bright and airy traditional pub with attractive wood panelling, a collection of cottage ornaments, tankards and Toby jugs and books for browsing. Service was good and the pub has a large selection of cask ales and ciders.
Called in for lunch ordered the fish and chips came out cold and waited a very long time I asked the staff to sort it out but they couldn’t care less. Gave them a second chance just called in for a cheese and onion sandwich...which was dismal really cheap bread packet grated cheese and one strip of onionMore
Delicious home cooked food, excellent value. Wide choice for vegetarians. Good choice of real ales. Superb lasagne, unfortunately the garlic ciabatta bread and sticky toffee cake were cold though serv d with hot custard, the blackberry and apple crumble by far the better choice for...dessert. Pleasant sheltered outdoor tables perfect for the current COVID times. We have dined here before, and will definitely return.More
it's only the fact that the five lamps have a nice selection of real ales on that keep us coming back, on a couple of occasions we have cut our vist short as it can be really cold in the five lamps on the monday...or Tuesday we go in about 3pm
The triple cut chips are more like potatoe wedges and can be a little hard to bite into ... please bring back home made chipsMore
Beware of reviews by people who have only made one review I say. The food menu has changed. 'Amazing food'? Absolutely not. Briefly, the burger was just not nice, very small and very little flavour. The only 2 gammons they had left (1 o'clock on...a Sunday?) were cooked to death having the texture of boot leather. Twice cooked chips the menu boasts. Aren't all chips cooked twice? Anyway average chips would be kind I think. In the past the pies used to be good. Obviously the new chef thinks Beetroot, Avocado & Cold Mushroom salad is more suitable!!! Oh, and no water in the gents loos?! Beers nice, good choice. Nice seating area outside. That's the only reason I've given them 3*. Beware of the 'Amazing food' brigade of one time reviewers, they may not be a true review.More
They have a great selection of real ales, my partner as always was spoilt for choice. Usually I enjoy a real cider, they always have atleast 3 on offer, which are very delicious but this time I had a soft drink. We ordered a bowl...of chips, they were proper chips which we both enjoyed. We sat outside with our dog, who all the staff we're very friendly towards.
Such a great dog friendly pub to visit!More
I know we've just come out of lockdown but the 5 lamps is amazing. Have been grafting in the rain all day helping friends move house away from the area (sadly, as wont get a chance to come back 😪). Came in and sat on...very comfy couch.. staff were friendly, Good bitter on tap, but the food defied belief.. astoundingly good.. had a burger with bacon and Stilton with red onion chutney. The flavours were a revelation. I worked at a commercial butchers, making 600+ burgers a day, so take a particular interest.. well impressed. Also the chips were battling with the burger to be the tastiest.. very good! Think the chef is under paid, what ever he is on! Cannot recommend the food enough! Thank you. Also, like the ambiance with all the Toby jugs etc.More
