Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This place used to be fabulous with all home-cooked food. Unfortunately it has now gone all Marston's branded, with food presumably bought in and heated up on-site. I'm sure that makes a higher profit margin per plate for Marstons but its not what I want...- I try really hard to avoid ultra-processed food, I cook from scratch at home, and I expect restaurants to do the same. The food has changed from fabulous to average and I won't be back in a hurry.More

Still on cloud 9 after a wonderful long birthday weekend with my hubby at this lovely hotel. We booked here as a base to explore the Peak District and celebrate my birthday and it definitely exceeded our expectations! We booked to stay in the Napoleon...suite and were both honestly blown away with how impressive it is not just in size but all the facilities and little touches that have been added just helped to make it extra special. The cookies were delicious and having these replenished and the bottled water plus a coffee machine and a DAB radio were an added bonus. Plus having two TVs meant we could both watch something from the bed and from the bath which was just heavenly…. The room itself is stunning and beautifully decorated with a large roll top bath, waterfall shower and king size bed which was super comfortable. The wardrobe is a great size with bathrobes in which is another nice addition though we sadly didn’t get a chance to make use of these. My one complaint about the room is that it wasn’t as clean as it should have been especially on the tables and side tables plus a few marks on the wall and big stains on curtain and the dust and damage to some items need addressing and updating as it’s looking a tad tired and tatty in some areas. All this could be rectified very easily with a touch of paint and items replacement to ensure the room lives up to its high standard wow factor upon first appearance. We dined downstairs in the restaurant on the Friday evening and the drinks we had in the bar prior to the meal and our dinner and wine that we consumed were excellent and great value for money. Jacob the waiter was superb with his attentiveness and level of customer service and attention to detail. The layout and decor of the bar/restaurant is really warm and inviting and has a cool quirky vibe that makes you want to immerse yourself in the surroundings completely and experience it to the full which we definitely did. Overall we throughly enjoyed our stay here and have not only recommended to friends but very much look forward to returning in the near future! :-)More

Entrance crowded with smokers, so a cloud of tobacco to walk through to get in.. then met disintersted bar staff, who serve 'extra cold' Guinness at room temperature and really do not care when told about it, same as the restaurant staff who were so...uninterested when told the seats were dirty and should be cleaned.. almost like they were above speaking to the public. A venue with great potential, but sadly the staff need re training or replacing.More

Had lunch & a one night stay. The sandwich was entirely forgettable & the chips stuck together in clumps. The room had a bathroom with peeling paint on the walls & and a bath towel wedged along its window opening, in a vain attempt to...stop the cold from coming in. Won’t be going again, nor recommending others to do so.More

I love this hotel. So much so, I organised my team meeting here just before Christmas and 10 of us stayed here and had dinner. We also used the meeting room facilities which was great. We work for a national pub co and we were...very impressed with the service and experience. I subsequently stayed here whilst on business a couple of times. Tonight, 23rd Jan 24, I decided to eat elsewhere whilst staying here (The Bluebell; which was great). We arrived back at The Farmouse at 10:56pm and asked for a drink to take up to our room. The duty manager said no; the bar is closed and that is that. I was very surprised at this and said so; to be told that I was rude and needed to leave because the bar was closed. I must say, having had such great experiences here before, I was shocked by the way I was treated by this manager. I said that I felt like writing a review and he told me he would delete it!!!! It’s a great shame as I really did like this hotel. I certainly won’t stay here again; or have future team meetings here either.More

Travelled from Scotland recently to attend a family wedding at the hotel. Accommodation really nice with lovely bed and facilities. Bathroom huge and nicely decorated. Noticed immediately that all the rooms are named after characters from ‘Animal Farm’ by George Orwell ….. very clever and...original ! Only minor gripe was while showering ( bath shower ) there was no bath mat and it could be very slippery ! Atmosphere lovely in the bar and restaurant and all the staff throughout the hotel were friendly and helpful. Food great, especially the breakfasts - amazing choice and very reasonable with plenty to choose from. Drinks on the pricey side but isn’t everywhere now?!!! All things considered, we had a lovely stay and will definitely return when staying in the area again.More

So managed to persuade my wife that this venue was a nice place to try for our wedding anniversary meal. It didn’t start well. No steaks available… how to recover from that given my wife was looking for a nice steak? Also how does a...restaurant run out, particularly when there’s a mobile chiller in the car park? Cauliflower wings were very good to start. My chickpea curry was decent. Although my 2 sides arrived considerably after the main. My wife’s runner up prize of fish and chips was ok, but not exceptional. The tiramisu was more of a cake but nice. The melting dome pudding suited me. Issac’s service was excellent which probably added a star to the review to be fair, because on food alone I wasn’t blown away. Nice venue, not sure why the music is so loud and why 4 parties were all grouped so close together, when the other half of the circular window area was empty. Thank you.More

I couldn’t have wished for a better place to spend my time at celebrating Christmas yesterday! They catered so well for gluten free and vegetarian, it was no problem for the chef to adjust menu to cater and the food tasted soo good! Would highly...recommend for anyone wanting a fabulous Christmas meal over this festive time or in the future. I had mushroom soup and GF bread to start, GF butternut, spinach and cranberry tart with all the trimmings and a beautiful GF burnt basque cheesecake! I have just been to this pub/restaurant with friends for the most expensive meal I have ever eaten. Because my husband and I usually dine in places where the food is very much cheaper, I was expecting something special at The Farmhouse, in view of...their prices. My friend booked a table for the festive two-course menu, which cost £30.99. (I have never in my life paid that much for a meal, though I know many people think nothing of spending huge amounts on restaurant food.) I had pre-ordered the turkey Christmas meal. This was VERY disappointing. I was expecting turkey on the plate with vegetables in serving dishes to help ourselves to. No! The meal arrived ready plated like a canteen meal. There were two slices of turkey (which was nice), one pig in a blanket (which I didn't want and would not have chosen), five Brussel sprouts (a little hard for my taste) three very hard and dry roast potatoes (possibly the worst I have ever eaten) one slice (lengthways) of carrot, one slice, (lengthways) of parsnip, a small stuffing ball, one large Yorkshire pudding (too large for me) and some lovely gravy. There was no cranberry sauce. I also paid £3 for a pot of ordinary tea. Extortionate! The teacups were small and shallow so the tea was cold almost as soon as it was poured. Incidentally, when I visited the loo, there was no paper in my cubicle and I could write my name in all the dust on the woodwork. Not what one expects in such an establishment. On the plus side, our waitress was extremely efficient, patient and helpful. The restaurant was not busy when we went. The apple and cherry crumble was delicious and the custard (though not much of it) was exceptional. I would have preferred to eat at our local carvery, where I could have chosen all the vegetables I could eat. I don't know how they can justify their prices. It was definitely a third-class meal for a first class price. This place is highly overrated and I sall not be returning to the Farmhouse. Incidentally, I have just returned from Christmas lunch at a different pub/restaurant with another group of friends. What a difference! We paid £25.99 for THREE courses. MY parsnip soup was delicious and the two half-slices of granary bread were very fresh and soft, served with butter. My plate had a generous portion of turkey, a medium-sized stuffing ball, two roast potatoes (the looks, texture and taste of which were proper roast potatoes), two boiled potatoes, two full parsnips, a jug of gravy and a small dish of cranberry sauce. Placed on the table were serving dishes of vegetables - brussels, peas, carrots, cauliflower cheese and red cabbage (so much better to be able to choose one's own vegetables). The desserts were generously-sized and my ginger sponge was very light and delicious. My only complaint was that there was not enough custard. However, when I requested more custard, the waiter very quickly obliged with an extra jug. All the food was excellently cooked and very good value for money. I forgot to mention that we were all given a mint chocolate with the bill. We will probably book our Christmas lunch here next year.More

My partner and I visited on Friday 1st December for our "date night". It was my first time visiting the establishment; my partner had been before and highly recommended it. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a very friendly staff member who showed us to...our table and advised that it would be table service. Within minutes, a lovely waitress called Courtney attended our table and took our drinks order. Courtney was very polite, very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Despite the restaurant being very busy, Courtney continued to check that all was OK and if we required anything. We placed our food order and Courtney promptly returned with our drinks. The food arrived and it was exceptional. We started with a sharing Camembert which came with toasted bread and lovely onion chutney. For the mains, I had the Royal Chicken Tikka Masala and my partner had rib eye steak with all the trimmings. Once we finished the meal, we decided to head into the bar area and enjoyed a couple of cocktails in front of the fire until our taxi turned up. Overall, we had a fantastic evening. The atmosphere was perfect, the surroundings were cozy, and we cannot wait to return. We will definitely recommend to our family and friends.More
