Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife and I met or friends here a couple of weeks ago we wanted somewhere halfway between Gloucester where we live and Basingstoke were they live, I looked at alot of pubs off junction 15 of the M4 and the Village Inn seemed to...tick all the boxes, it did not disapoint, lovely traditional village pub nice warm welcome from the landlady and her barmaid followed by an excellent lunch. We will definitly be back when we meet up with our friends in the near future.More

We’ve visited this pub before but decided to give it a go again knowing it had been taken over by new owners. We had a nice table in the corner and were offered drinks quickly and given menus. A good choice of pub classic meals...and reasonable prices. We ordered surf and turf and the pie. The waitress later kindly offered us a free drink or dessert as felt there was a delay. A kind gesture but we declined as didn’t feel there was a delay. There was a bit of confusion on what we’d ordered when the food arrived but the manager kindly sorted it straight away. Food was good for the price and we felt the friendly service made us feel we’d go back, possibly to try the Sunday roast. It’s always nice to support local pubs/budinesses.More

Came here with my father last weekend. We were treated to a spectacular roast dinner. Probably the best we had in a restaurant for a long time. Service is excellent as well. Just could do with a little light background music. Other than this I...say to anyone looking for good food in a nice village pub to it a try. You won’t be disappointed.More

Very good Sunday lunch. Puddings were also great. They have a loyalty scheme which adds points based on spend which is an added incentive. The Halloween decorations were really good, lots of effort has clearly been made. The service was good, the staff are friendly...and helpful. It’s obvious that they are trying really hard to turn this lovely pud around from the damage to reputation caused by the previous landlord. Tips for improvement maybe nice background music to lift the atmosphere a little.More

I’m so sorry to write this I have been to this place many times Had a fantastic time Not this time We were showed to our table by a waitress carrying a dog under her arm to quieten him We ordered drinks which were weak...Roast dinner was cold Meat thin over cooked Veg frozen Offered free desert Crumble topping was raw ! Sticky toffee pudding was like a brick The waitresses were so so kind but could not hide the awful food I knew something was wrong as the place was nearly empty when we arrived should have left then. New chef needed in order for me to return !More

My sister and I met here on a Wednesday lunchtime and they couldn’t be more welcoming to us. The lady we spoke to was so friendly and warm, they made us feel right and home and the food was great. My fish goujon sandwich was...delish! We will definitely be going back.More

Sunday lunch for 6, rather quiet for a Sunday lunch, pub decoration, drinks were all good, lovely and clean. All had roasts which were rather on the small side, 3 small slices of meat, 2 roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing ball and small veg, quality...was good but presentation wasn’t great. Service was fine, but not quite attentive enough, items not cleared from table before desserts arrived. Would go back and try main menu another day.More

Been around all the pubs in West Swindon and this pub is my absolute favourite. Staff are really friendly, can usually get a good table and the food is good, if you know what to order. Weirdly, this place serves up my favourite squid. Perfectly...cooked. Limited on real ales but can settle in with something reliable. Generally good vibe overall.More

Decided to try the Village Inn as we heard it had new management. We had a lovely greeting and were offered a choice of two tables (very quiet for a Saturday evening). We were given menus but it didnt take long to read as very...few options available. We ordered our food, cauliflower cheese and chicken and mushroom pie. The food was ok but only just ok. Frozen vegetables served that were rubbery and tasteless and the cauliflower cheese had also been made using frozen cauliflower. There was way too much of a very bland sauce with the cauliflower cheese and hardly any cauliflower. The chicken and mushroom pie looked like it had been bought pre-made but my friend said it tasted ok. We would usually have dessert when we go out but the choices were a little uninspiring as it was ice cream, ice cream sundae or brownie and ice cream so we decided For such a limited menu it was very disappointing and sadly we won’t go again. Staff were friendly and attentive so I hope they sort their menu out soon.More

We booked a table for 3 on Christmas day and they have closed Apparently they are trying to contact everyone but I've emailed them 3...times knocked the door but haven't heard anything. Thanks for ruining our Christmas and no sign of the £90 depositMore

Very sad to see arrival that Stephen & Jessica have since left since our last visit. This was very apparent with the standard of food and beer we were served during our visit. Pub packed heat, personality and a friendly smile! Very disappointed our once...much loved pub has now disappeared in a matter on months!More

Did not have website menu nor match our lovely pub previous visits pre pandemic. Travelled a long way to take local parents out for special birthday lunch. Met with very cold pub. No heating. No atmosphere .( No toilet paper in toilets. Sticky table )Minimal...service ..appeared to be one front house staff doing it all . Very embarrassingly poor food ... taking about 40 minutes to arrive despite being pretty much only people in there. No pineapple , ran out of mash potatoe.... (Chips were good .)Such a disappointment .More

Hi Peter, I can't say I took that much notice but I think the entrance is accessible, however inside is on more than one level but you could possibly request a ground level table
