First visit to the Royal Oak, although we have been to the Chop House a number of times. The pub is really nice; a lovely atmosphere and staff who were attentive and very friendly. Food was great; shared a vegetarian mezze to start then had ribs for main. The ribs were really tasty. Saw some desserts go past that looked... More

This has always been one of my favourite pubs in Wiltshire but the refurbishment and addition of new bedrooms across a pretty courtyard has made it into something very special indeed. We stayed there for a night at the end of March 2017 and were hugely impressed by the personal and friendly service (yes you can ask to go for... More

Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Relaxed dinning with nice menu. I had calamari, burger and sticky toffee pudding. Starter was very generous and burger was good but could have done with more cheese and being a bit more moist. Dessert was again generous but lovely. Colleagues had pork belly which looked fab too. Would go back as keen to try... More

We three rambling middle aged chums called last night for a meal after a day walking on the Ridgeway.A friendly welcome in a traditional pub atmosphere. The owners display a sense of humour in their menu and blackboard notices. The food is locally sourced; and you can believe it. Star of the show for we three was the belly pork,... More

March 11th 2017 Once again we were geocaching, which is a sort of high-tech treasure hunt played with handheld GPS devices, with three friends. Remembering the excellent meals that we had enjoyed on our last visit, we returned here. Once again we found that the meals - lamb korma, battered hake, goat's cheese tart, spare ribs and bangers and mash... More

Four of us had a very enjoyable lunch at the Royal Oak on Saturday. There was a great menu to choose from, between us we had pork cheek pie and sausages, schnitzel and hoggit. The presentation and flavours were great and we left nothing. The staff were really friendly and we were left to enjoy our meal and remained at... More

This pub has just re-opened after a major re-furb, and while all the work is not quite complete and the room block still under construction, we had a wonderful relaxed Saturday lunch. Met up with a group of friends, did a 4 mile/ 2 hour circular walk from the pub, through the fields where the food is produced, along the... More

My husband and I had dinner here during a multi-day walk on the Ridgeway. Wow! We loved everything about the place--the delicious food, friendly service, large beer selection, laid back vibe, great people watching. Our only regret was that we could only eat here once.

I have been spending time with our new customer relations manageress, and she has advised a more emollient approach to trip advisor responses now that we have moved into the dazzling mini hotel business. Needless to say, it won't catch on. This comment from CCSusan is exactly the style I am encouraging my customers to adopt, so I would be... More

We had dinner here again last night and, once again, were impressed by the friendly welcome, warm atmosphere and great food. Great charcuterie platter to share for a starter followed by the fillet steak which was, without a doubt, one of the best pieces of meat we have ever eaten - equalling that experienced before in some superb specialist steak... Don't take you boots off to be welcomed to good daily prepared organic foods. Even you dogs are welcome. Excellent choice of local brews.
