Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Soup revolting and chicken deep fried and dripping with grease. Likely there will be a review by the owners to attempt to hide the poor review. The problem is the management back the chef not the customer. I suspect there actually will be no complaints...tonight.More

After finding out the previous owner had left (he was the most arrogant, abrupt man we had ever met!) we decided to try the Wilton again. So glad we did, the staff were so attentive and friendly. I had the chicken with mushroom sauce which...was delicious. My husband had the fish and chips and he said the same. Our eldest Grandson had fish goujons and our youngest Grandson had the sausages and buttery mash, beautifully presented and very large portions. The food came out pretty quickly and overall, it was really good value for money. We will definitely be back.More

Nice view, good decor. Food choice good nice and hot. Cold plated though. And too much salt added. Could do with more staff.

I wrote a less than complimentary review earlier in the year but after learning there was a new management team in place we decided to give The Wilton a go and pleased to say we weren't disappointed. The staff were really friendly and attentive, there...is a new menu and the meal we had was excellent and on that basis I would highly recommend people give it a go and wish the new team well. One slight gripe is that they are still charging for the dash of lime my wife has with her lager which is a bit of a liberty in all honesty.More

Disappointed meal with family. Wish I had read reviews before we booked! Waiter gave us a warm reception but it was ages before we saw him again. Limited staff for a busy restaurant. Nice starters but then it went down hill. Sunday lunch - lamb...for me, was like a supermarket ready meal that just needed warming up. Lamb was swamped in thick tasteless liquid that was supposed to be gravy. Vegetables were warm to cold. Chicken Sunday lunch was good and grandson enjoyed his pizza. Error with bill which we had to ask be amended. Didn’t bother with Dessert. Would we go again, probably not. Even a free meal wouldn’t temp me.More

Arrived at 4pm for a late lunch/early dinner. Received a warm welcome and quick service for our drinks order. The starter order arrived but was wrong, no worries, mistakes happen and it was quickly replaced with no issue- all good. Main course - cajun chicken...kebab was passable although short of any veg/salad accompaniment and the chicken though plentiful was dry and overcooked, but the roast beef Sunday lunch was beyond poor - resembled a budget supermarket ready meal - minute soggy Yorkshire puddings, gravy made from instant granules, minimal veg which had hardly seen any heat and was raw. Very disappointing. Told the staff I was not impressed with the food, the waitress was apologetic but didn't seem remotely surprised. Saw other meals returned to the kitchen while we were there. When the bill came it was wrong and had to be corrected. Won't be returning - a very disappointing experience not to be repeated.More

Very poor customer service and a lack of understanding around what a good customer experience equates to. We live locally and have used the Wilton Arms often over the years. Usually acceptable pub food, with great views over the countryside. Unfortunately on Saturday evening we...visited for our evening meal, took about 30 minutes for a drinks order to be taken, we ordered food at the same time, not a difficult order and the restaurant was not too busy but we were not rushing, however, the food took about another 30 minutes to arrive. We’d both ordered the same meal - Gammon Steak, looked well presented with a heavy aroma of Oregano over my meal, not something I’d experienced previously on this type of meal, I checked the menu to make sure I’d not missed something on the menu and wondered why my wife’s meal didn’t have a similar presentation ? Thought it might taste alright I sampled the steak , the flavour was ruined with an aroma not correct for this dish, I asked the waiter why the food had been presented in this way to which I was informed that the chef was Italian and that’s how he prepared gammon, on asking why my wife’s meal did not have the same accompaniment there was no answer, as the waiter went to leave I stated that I was not happy with the presentation and would like a replacement meal. This upset the waiter / now introduced as manager as to why I didn’t want the food!! Eventually he agreed to replace the meal, by this time all of the food accompanying the steak was cold and I moved the plate away whilst I awaited a fresh meal. After a further 30 minute wait the manager presented me with a piece of gammon steak which he placed on top of the old Oregano laced food. No accompanying vegetables etc. This piece of meat was of inferior quality and visually had a line of gristle through the meat. On refusing the replacement experience the manager stated that he’d done what I’d asked for!! Unfortunately I have trained as a chef, knew I wasn’t going to experience a cordon blueur meal, but the sad thing is we just wanted a reasonable meal. Customer service was atrocious, many sat on tables nearby had not finished their meals for whatever reason, with others leaving the restaurant without paying for food. Sadly this situation if not corrected will close what could be a good local establishment, we won’t be returning and I doubt whether those running the pub will be gracious enough to learnMore

Food quality is variable. Very variable and the reviews back that up. Some is very good other food is very unpleasant. The tiger prawns at 4 for £10 seems expensive and the menu does tend to show a pricing structure which is at the very...upper end of what is charged anyway locally. The QC needs sorting out very quickly and they may need to revisit their pricing structure.More

Shocking service and food... Hugely understaffed. Bottom shelf basic wine selections that you can buy at a local Nisa for £6.00 per bottle. The new owners have very little customer service and people skills... They have let all the great staff and management go and...some staff have not even been paid for shifts worked over the last few weeks. This has been our community local pub for many years and sadly last night will be our last. They refuse to accept there is any fault with their food or prices charged for let's face it cafe or truck stop level food. The chef has 30 years experience.. not sure where he trained ? We were not the only ones to complain last night 3 other tables around us were not happy.. very long waits for food no table service food coming out 30 mins apart .. desserts were a 45 min wait. This is not sabotage as the owners have clearly written in a previous review this is fact. As said last night Mario we are a very close knit community and people talk .. to speak to customers they way you did and ignore the fact that our whole experience was terrible is very short sited as a new owner to a business in a new area you do not know. I wish you every success turning a very nice restaurant into a karaoke bar.More

Wow what can I say, what an absolute s**t show. Lack of staff so the service is non-existent, food well that too wouldn’t have been fed to the cats, cheap processed frozen food at high end cost, the prices do not reflect the quality. To...be told they are working on it but this is supposedly fresh stock for the new menu , there’s more than work that needs to be done. A chef that has 30 years of experience in Manchester and London…. Not sure where he has come from, maybe Morrisons cafe. After many years of visiting the Wilton unfortunately I will not be spending my hard earned money on unsatisfactory service and quality. The managers here couldn’t even arrange a pi55 up in a brewery and excuses they are giving are extraordinary. Unfortunately you get rid of your staff to cut costs - which has come from the accountant (the person who has great knowledge on running a restaurant) then you are losing your business. They have some great ideas to bring forward but unfortunately if they can’t get the basics right then nothing is going to work. What a shame, I’m sure The Cheetham Arms will be great full of our customers going forward. To the staff that are currently there, get out whilst you can.More

Went as a family of 13 people. Service to start was absolutely non existent. We had to ask for service 4 times, had been there sat down for 35 minutes before anyone came, then took 30 minutes for starters to come and they missed one,...had to wait another 15 minutes for that and it wasn't worth waiting for. Besides the fact that no side plates where given with starters. When mains eventually came they missed a sauce for one of the steaks. That took over 10 minutes to come. Steaks where perfect. Top notch. Although the cheese and onion pie was inedible. Not cooked thoroughly and far too much mustard. To the point that you could taste nothing but mustard. Unfortunately my brother had paid and they said there was nothing they could do about it. Sorry but that's wrong. We will not be going back again ever. This has tainted our day in memoriam of our late father's birthday so much. Avoid at all costs.More
