This is the closest pub to our office, so we visit routinely throughout the week - including lunch times and occasional evenings. The staff (all of them!) are always great; pleasant and polite and make you feel welcome (even when we first started visiting we...were made to feel important) and this is a reason we continue to return.More

I’m writing this review for the management. I was so looking forward for a wonderful drink by the canal . that was a disappointment, Lack of staff on a very busy day and leaving a very inexperienced bar man who had only be working there...for 2 weeks . I asked for a vodka lime and soda water, but got a vodka and soda water with a slice of lime in as there was no lime cordial, but at no point was that explained, So I asked for a blush wine and soda water instead, I received a white wine and soda water , or should I say a splash of wine filled up with soda water. THERE IS ONLY SO MUCH SODA WATER ONE CAN DRINK,More

Nice pub, next to the canal, perfect on a warm day. Good selection of beers, went in for food, the website states they serve food until 8pm, we were there at 6pm, apparently the kitchen was closed, yet there were still food menus everywhere. A...disappointing early end to a pleasant evening.More

Called in for lunch with my wife on a hot and sunny day, looking forward to sitting by the canal in the garden. Ordered lunch to find out 15 minutes after ordering that eggs were not available for the ham, egg and chips that we...had ordered. There was no offer of a substitute so the meal was delivered with one of the main elements missing. There was only one member of staff on duty covering the bar and garden which is across 2 floors, which meant service was slow although that member of staff did try their hardest to manage what was an unacceptable situation. The garden is as mentioned by other reviews an absolute disgrace and should be considered a major health risk. The ground was littered with fags butts, rubbish, bits of metal, plastic and other items. The grass was destroyed in many places and is just mud. The benches were beyond tired and worn and clearly need either replacing or repairing and painting. The benches hadn't been organised in the garden and were literally almost in a heap, the fences are tired and worn and what used to be a lovely children's play area has now been removed and 40% of the garden is an enclosed barren woodchip area. Despite the high temperatures there were only 2 dirty, stained and broken umbrellas and therefore no shade. This place has gone drastically down hill over the last couple of years, it is certainly not a place for families and the garden is dangerous for any dogs you may wish to bring. A pub certainly best to avoid.More

Called in here to watch a football match and have a couple of beers. The place is very tired and could definitely do with a refurb. I think it's predominantly a locals pub and they are not trying to attract visitors.

Only popped in for a bag of nuts and to use their toilet very late on a Saturday evening. The lady behind the bar was friendly, and it appeared very much a locals pub. It is right next to the Grand Union Canal at Old...Wolverton. The car park opposite looked safer than the car park down the side. The pub is very dog friendly, with treats and water and even a sign saying dogs welcome people tolerated. The toilet was clean.More

Extremely disappointed. Wanted to support our local business. Visited on Sunday 23rd Oct 22. I also Visited 2 weeks prior this, on week day, was told no food due to no staff. We Wanted to give our new local another try. It Didn't seem to...busy on arrival, there were tables avaliable. one person working bar, although he was very quick. Ordered food, just mains with 2 sides, a burger and a sandwich. After waiting a hour, no food arrived, spoke to a young girl, who seemed very stressed out and clearly upset. Didn't get any update on food. 20 mins later still no food, I asked the chef, who was on his own, how long he advised another 20/30 mins! 2 hours and no food. Bar manager gave refund, wasn't very apolegtic didn't seem to bothered. Lots of people unhappy. If your short staffed and tell people from the off, the wait for food is expected to be...... i wouldn't of mind waiting , but was being fobbed on each time we asked for a update and was never given one. I would not recommend or return.More

There is no play area out the back anymore, which was a bit of a shame but not a deal breaker. The main problem was the food service, we waited for over an hour, some of us waiting even longer. This isn't even the worst...of it, I understand that kitchens get busy, and it was clear they were short staffed, but if pub food is going to take so long, just let us know, we could have decided to stay, or go somewhere else. We were ordering a kids meal so it was clear that we had children with us so it should have been second d nature for the staff member who took the order to just say it might be an hour wait or more. To top it off, the chicken burger was missing all of the trimmings described on the menu, but they did apologise and refund the burger. The poor waiting staff member looked really stressed out but was trying her best.More

So we visited with my grandson and family for a lunch on Friday 5th August as type webpage advertises a play facility. This was a great disappointment. Some of the family having looked at the menu on line prior to visiting thought the salad sounded...great with carrot cucumber peppers ad sweetcorn. Again sadly salad arrived with basically lettuce cucumber and tomato. Childs meal had pretty hard garlic bread. and burger with cheese came without the cheese. So all in all not as great experience. George - just a note to say that your front of house dealt with the issues in a very professional manner while having to go up and downstairs to resolve issues with the kitchen. They are your best asset. It may also be wise to put a note on the webpage re the play being out of action to avoid disappointing families who may choose your establishement for this reason. I hope that you manage to sort things out soon - the Galleon is in a good location and it would be nice to come back at some point in the future when you have turned it around.More

I've drank in this pub for many years and I've seen it go through many managers. George is working very hard to get the Galleon back to where it was despite the staffing issues he seems to be having. On busy days there will be...a wait on both food and drink but its clear to see he's working his socks off to make the pub successful. The food did take some time but that was expected with how busy the pub was and i was informed that there was going to be a wait on food beforehand so I was prepared for that. Overall, the pub has a much better atmosphere than I've seen it have in a while and I can see George and team working very hard to make the Galleon the best pub in the areaMore
