Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Pretty average food, quite expensive for what you get. Service was average, I would not describe the staff as super attentive though.

Lovely place, always busy but food is good and it is local to us so we visit frequently. Nice interior and in summer it’s absolutely lovely with the lake as a view

Dreadful! Booked previously for Sunday at 18.30 for family birthday celebrations. Only meals available were fish and chips and burgers! So why didn't you let us know? A phonecall would have been good. I made do with soup! Shepherd Neame you should be ashamed of...yourselves and so should the wharf manager. None of us will ever be back. You've lost some good customers.More

Booked a table on a Sunday afternoon. As there were 10 of us, we had to pre-order our meals. When we got there, the menu had changed so some of the meals weren’t available (hint to the staff: maybe let customers know when they’ve already...placed their orders!) we waited an hour for our food; not sure why we bothered pre-ordering then. The sausage from kids’ menu should have come with a chisel as a normal knife and fork could not cut it! Everything tasted like pepper, which I hate so barely ate my meal. Poor choice of vegetables for the Sunday roast - broccoli and carrots wouldn’t go amiss next time! There are some lovely pubs down greenhithe high street, or even the Burger King down the road, all of which would be better and cheaper!More

The wharf is a lovely pub with great views over looking the water, it is clean and well furnished. Myself and my friend booked a table for dinner on a Saturday evening, the pub was very quiet. We were asked to wait whilst our table...was prepared and then shown to a table which was directly opposite the kitchen. We were informed that thy had had a problem with their delivery during the day meaning they only had 4 items from the main menu and a choice of burgers. This was somewhat disappointing but actually the food that we had was very well cooked and enjoyable so not too much of an issue. What we found most disappointing was the service, given it was very quiet the waitresses weren’t really available and were very slow to serve, bring our drinks and we had to flag someone down to ask for the bill. The staff were pleasant when they were available, just could do with being a bit more present - I dread to think how they cope if the restaurant was full!More

First time visiting the pub with my family as large group. Service was terrible, from having to ask for menus, then asked to order, I will say that there was just one young chap that actually seemed to bother to take our order and oversee...that part and did ask if we wanted more drinks. Food took ages to arrive and wasn’t great when it did as it had been waiting on the pass for a good while! Once arrived no service at all, we had to go and find someone to get anything else we wanted and it wasn’t busy at all, perhaps someone needs to train staff to wait on customers, not customers doing the job for them. Apart from that one chap for the order, we had shoddy service and the food was mediocre and we all won’t be returning anytime soon.More

We have been coming here for 25 years, travelling here from London, typically. We happened to have moved nearby (not because of The Wharf). Since moving, we have had my birthday here, my partners birthday, my Mum’s, and my partners sons 18th birthday last weekend...(23rd July). We also pop down here from time to time. The service is always impeccable, always friendly, and we always feel welcome. The food is great, the drink selection is great, so there’s not a lot left to ask for. However, on top of all this, the outside area has stunning views, and plenty of seating. It’s dog friendly, and seems to cater for everyone. The decor inside is lovely, too.More

We arrived without booking and were shown to a free table in the restaurant as we requested. We were served by Megan who went out of her way to check out our various dietary requirements. Our questions were answered resulting in me adjusting some of...the items in my beefburger. The beefburger was excellent as we're the crunchy chips.More

Where do I start. Booked for 8pm and took ages to be seated. Didn’t get a table we reserved even though we booked in advance, so was offered another. Then was told the kitchen closes soon and had to place our order within 10 mins....After dinner, we all fancied dessert. But no the kitchen was closed. All they could offer was scoops of ice cream so went for coffee instead. Took them about half an hour to come to take our coffee order when she said she would be straight back after she had cleared the plates. Needless to say, we refused to pay for the service charge. What I don’t understand is why take a booking for 8pm when the kitchen closes so early? She blamed it on the system. Surely it’s not the first time bookings have been made for that time. Why don’t someone sort out the online booking issue? Clearly they know it’s a problem! They had all my details so they could have called to inform us we would not have time to eat if we booked for 8. The Wharf use to be a lovely place to eat but it has gone totally downhill. The service was very poor. Would not recommend.More

We visited on a Friday evening at 6pm. It was a warm day and the place was busy. This should have been the warning sign. The pace was heaving and as such the service suffered. Drinks took ages, food can in drips and drabs with...items missing. Shame as previously we have had a good time.More

We were so happy that we had found a place where the service has always been exemplary, the food varied, well cooked and hot, the environment clean and attractive. We booked a table for 8 for my mum's 92nd birthday and on arrival were informed...that there had been a problem with the kitchen and the booking system being overwhelmed, people arriving late and staying at their tables for longer than expected. When I asked why they had not thought to contact me as we could have been flexible with the timing - I had booked online and so they had my details - I was told that the restaurant staff had not told him about the problems. Strange that, as he was working in the restaurant. We were told that we would have to wait for an hour for our table. In the event we did not have to wait as long as an hour as a table had become available although mum had to climb stairs which is a great effort for for. It took a long time for each meal to arrive, drinks order was wrong, the majority of dishes were cold, or had items missing, staff forgot and had to be reminded that we had ordered drinks. After the starter we were asked whether we would like a desert. Easy mistake to make tbh as we had sat there for so long. Tables throughout the restaurant were not being cleared, spillages on floors within the pub were left. The place looked a mess and surely such spillages would be a health and safety issue. Outside in the non smoking terrace where we had to wait there were dog ends and rubbish all over the floor. The menu itself seems to be getting shorter each time we have visited and the quality has really declined. This will have been the last time we have visited the Wharf, why things have gone so downhill, I have no idea, but if anyone was visiting for the first time, I can guarantee they would not return. Such a shame.More

friday 23rd June. 9.20pm. We are in our 60's and came in for a quiet drink. The Wharf pub is located in an industrial estate and faces an attractive large lake. The women behind the bar said they close at 10 o'clock and could not...serve us as she had to consider her staff. I said we only wanted one drink and would not be a burden to the staff. She went on to explain they were a bar and a restarant and repeated herself about the 10 o'clock closing time. I replied we did not want any food and only a glass of wine. She was unnecessarily blunt and so we left. What a ridiculous policy to close the bar 40 minutes before closing time. I'm sure the Shepherd Neame Brewery company would be dissappointed to hear that customers were refused to be served as there were a few of us at the bar. Very poor customer care. If I could give no stars then I would. She was actually pouring out a pint for someone else whilst telling us the bar was closed and not serving anymore. Avoid this pub it really has gone downhill. We will not be returning again.More

I go to this restaurant often because it’s nearby and has an amazing lake view. The downside is the food. Small portions, not a lot to choose from which I wouldn’t mind if they would be perfect. My fish and chip had more batter than...fish itself. Burger patty was half the size compared to the bun which means half of the burger was empty. It’s a shame because it’s such a lovely modern place, a lot money must have been spent on refurbishing this restaurant few years ago but unfortunately food isn’t the reason we go there. I recommend to go for drinks and nibbles, sit outside in a warm sunny day looking at the lake but if you’re really hungry and fancy a good meal then I’d go somewhere else really.More

my daughter had a birthday meal voucher, her birthday was 2 weeks ago, the voucher lasts until October, when we tried to use it they said the voucher was already used, which is totally untrue, when we took it up with the manager, his manner...was very rude, and basically he couldn't care less, this is the second time we have experienced rude behaviour from this manager, the 1st time over a different matter, i think he needs lessons on how to talk to customer's in a polite way. We used to love going to the Wharf for the nice outdoor setting, but will be boycotting it from now on until they find a new managerMore
