We have been regular if a little infrequent visitors to The Malt Shovel during the last ten plus years, so I think I am overdue a 'review' having drunk and dined in both the bar and restaurant during that time. As always I'll break it down into the four main categories:- SERVICE; Generally its "good" - the consistency coming from... More

Six people for a multiple birthday celebration. The menu here was extensive enough to allow everyone in our party to find something they liked (even the picky ones). The food was outstanding. Whilst this place is basically a pub, the standard of food, service and smart venue is well above the usual pub grub fair but still relaxed and friendly.... More

This is a fabulous place to eat, if it's a nice day, then sit outside on the patio area. The food is always cooked fresh to order and is well presented. The menu changes with lots of specials so you can come as often as you like without having to re order the same things. The staff are always friendly... More

I visited here, after a 10 year break and can honestly say I don't know how I forgot in the 10 years I missed? The staff were all very welcoming, the atmosphere was relaxed and the food was amazing. We were a party of 7, 4 adults, 3 kids.... We all chose different mains and everyone of us were happy.... More

Tastes and combinations were out of this world. Excellent and short menu that means it's all cooked fresh. Will definitely be back when next in the area.

Really looking forward to going to this restaurant after the reviews. The staff were very attentive and the menu is good. Ordered the rack of lamb. The vegetable served with the meal were nothing more than miserable. The gratin was dry, lacking in taste, any cream, seasoning, and that is what goes to making a good and tasty gratin. The... More

Dined at the Malt Shovel ahead of a show at the nearby NEC Arena. Menu was interesting and unusual with a wide variety of meat and fish dishes. Everything we chose was delicious - scallops to start followed by baked cod. Excellent dessert choices too - the summer pudding was lovely. Service was well balanced - polite & friendly. HIGHLY... We visited midweek to celebrate our anniversary. The restaurant is closed midweek so we had a table in the bar area, really pleasant surroundings, candles and fresh flowers on the tables, decent menu and really good service. Food was good.

The decor was lovely and the atomosphere was very nice. Service was also good. However, the food didn't match the expectations. The menu is on the pricy side, but the steak I had and Cod my husband had, didn't meet the taste I was expecting. It was a bit average and I was a little disappointed.
