My wife and I booked a table for lunch on Monday of this week. We had studied the menu on line so we ordered as we went in. I wanted Fish & Chips, my wife wanted Steak Pie, I ordered our drinks at the same time which were delivered quickly by the bar-man. The food was delivered quite quickly and as before was excellent in terms of taste. The bill for two mains as above and 1 pint of bitter and 1 pint of lager & lime was £38.00 which struck me as a bit on the expensive side.

Just got home from a wonderful 21st birthday celebratory dinner for our twin boys. As always, the food was superb. Served on piping hot plates, chicken curry (half and half), bar bq ribs, chicken stroganoff. Fish and chips and cumberland sausage were all devoured with gusto!!! Martin made a real fuss of the boys and brought a lovely birthday cake and other treats!!!!! THOROUGHLY recommend the Hand and Dagger. 10 out of 10.

Wedding anniversary Sunday Lunch. Booked for a 3pm lunch after walk with Mrs and dog. Arrived on time and shown to table via the COVID friendly one way system around the pub. All the staff wore full face masks and there were hand sanitiser stations throughout. Attentive staff, drinks ordered we perused the menu. I ordered a starter of traditional prawn cocktail which although a little small was very tasty. Sunday roast (one beef one roast pork) arrived promptly with a great selection of vegetables. Clean plates all round. Mrs E ordered a pudding of panettone bread and butter pudding which she said was excellent. A very pleasant Sunday lunch - highly recommended

Visited with family for Sunday lunch. High hopes and staff were initially welcoming and friendly. Ordered salmon for starter, had already tucked in when I noticed something moving in the salad ! Horrified to spot an almost dead fly .... say almost as was still wriggling around in the centre of the plate Waiter took away the food and brought a replacement however was really disappointed that no one even apologised or offered any acknowledgment to what was a pretty poor experience. Main & dessert were pleasant, but none us recovered from the starter trauma & sadly won’t be returning!

After a poor experience dealing with Expedia earlier in the day the Hand and Dagger was just what we needed. The food was excellent pub fare. I had the steak pie which was crammed with lots of steak and came with chips and some seasonal veg. Girlfriend had the fish and chips and again loved it. Followed up by a nice chocolate fudge cake with cream. Service was friendly, nice log fire, busy place so we were lucky they had one table left. Would go again.

We stopped at this pub without a reservation and despite being very busy they managed to accommodate us. The waiter was a lovely guy and was able to answer what ales were available. We decided to take advantage and sit outside in their beer garden, which over looks their beautiful wooden lodges for hire. The drinks were delivered promptly and we asked if we could order food and was told this was not a problem. There is plenty on the menu to choose from. We decided to order from their tapas menu and ordered their Nachos, Garlic Mushrooms, Mango and Brie Filo Parcels, and Prawns in Garlic Butter and a portion of chips, my daughter ordered the BBQ chicken bacon baguette and chips. All of the food we ordered was exceptional. The prawns for me were the best! The attention to detail when the food comes out the kitchen is noticeable in the taste and it certainly delivers in that! We got talking to the landlord Martin who again was lovely and he kindly added some tapas sausages to our table complimentary, which were absolutely delicious too! When we wanted to order more drinks these were also delivered promptly. We will definitely be back and would recommend to anyone. We are told it can be popular so you may want to book! Thank you for a lovely afternoon Hand and Dagger Team.

Everything superb as usual Just a quick thank you to Martin, Wayne, Dan and excellent new chef Stefano. We always love coming here for our lunches and we have never had anything other than top notch food, service and attention. Being vegetarian it is a big ask sometimes at a lot of restaurants and pubs, even with an ever growing population preferring plant based meals. I am always spoilt for choice here and always offered dishes that can be tweaked to make them veggie. In my mind it is so easy to do but never get the offer elsewhere. The other meals were the usual high standard. We will be back…sooner than later.

Popped in here after a walk down the canal with the dogs. No need to book a table, very pleasant chap at the entrance saw there were a couple of tables free and said we could choose either. Got our order taken almost immediately and they were brought over within a couple of minutes. Service was excellent and couldn't be faulted. Very happy and efficient staff. We had two dogs with us (a Ridgeback and a Beagle) and for those reviewers saying Martin (the Landlord) isn't dog-friendly, I beg to differ. He was to the rear of the beer garden doing some training with his own dog, then came over to say hello to our two. Asked about my dogs that I used to visit with (who passed away last year) then gave our dogs some leftover treats that he had in his pocket. Was a really nice visit and will recommend to anyone. Didn't eat on this occasion, but I have done in the past and it's always been spot on - proper decent pub grub. Outdoor toilet cubicle as well with hand sanitiser station for those worried about Covid regs.

The landlord spoiled this place. He was rude to his staff in front of customers, thought a lot (too much) about himself and to top it off he was rude to the customers who pay his wages. Food was mediocre, utensils were stained and ants were found on our serviettes. Not the best experience, won't be going back.

We arranged a 4pm table for four and initially sat outside. The sun was a bit bright for one of our guests who is undergoing treatment so a lovely inside table was quickly arranged for us by Martin and the staff. The food was superb. The roast beef dinner was faultless and a beautifully cooked piece of hake from the specials board was delicious and nicely presented. The staff were very attentive and helpful and I would go so far to say caring towards our guest. Thank you and we look forward to visiting again.

We booked Sunday lunch after seeing their menu Sunday Lunch Menu One Course £12.50 Two Course £15.50 Three Course £18.00. We arrived to be given the menu. This option not available. A Sunday roast is £14.50 and dessert £5.00. That is quite a hike in price. I doubt we will be going back

A family group of us (Banks) came here a few weeks ago to celebrate a birthday. We had a young girl and a young lad that looked after us and we’re really attentive, nothing was too much. 5 of us had the fillet steaks and each one was cooked to absolute perfection, it really was melt in the mouth! The kids were also well catered for too. Lovely atmosphere and beautiful setting. Looking forward to returning. A massive thankyou to all staff and a shout out to the chef please! Brilliant x

I’ve been to the H&D several times on my own and with my girlfriend. As soon as you step over the threshold and the staff lock eyes on you, you’re immediately greeted with big smiles and a warm welcome. Martin and his staff are versed in putting the customers requests at the top of their to do list. The food is and always has been second to none. Even when the bar is full and it’s all hands on deck, your waiting time is kept to a minimum as they somehow manage to keep you entertained while serving others😆 I really could wax lyrical about the H&D all day long. Well worth a visit 🙌🏾🙌🏾

Excellent as always, we’ve waited for ages to go back here. So attentive and friendly , this is our go to place. The soup was delicious and my butter pie created by Wayne was one of the best things I’ve eaten. The turkey meal was lovely and salmon starter a real treat. Over all the years we’ve been here none of us have had anything but superb food and brilliant service. We hope you all have a good Christmas, many thanks, Martin and all the hard working team.

Had dinner for four to celebrate a birthday. Place was busy with lots of people enjoying themselves and other birthday celebrations. Place was comfortable and food delicious with generous proportions. Drinks and wine very reasonably priced. The serving girls were very pleasant and very efficient and the night was completely stress free with drinks easily available and swift service. Will visit again. I think the fact that it was mid January and the Inn had plenty of people in suggests that it is very popular. Landlord came round towards end of evening asking if every-thing was ok and for a party of about 24, he provided a birthday cake (presume ordered.) He brought the cake to their table personally singing Happy Birthday and then took it away to slice. It was good that they coped with our order at the same time that they served the party of 24 or so, in addition to all of the other customers. There were a lot of cars on the car park but still plenty of room to park.
