Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Love this place Have had fabulous breakfasts here Recently enjoyed the festive atmosphere in and outside of The Borough Very welcoming Staff busy on a busy evening keeping everything clean and in order Jack was especially good at making sure we had everything we needed...The decorations and window paintings are fabulous and create a lovely warm and vibrant Christmas ambience Enjoyed local beer and warming hot chocolate alongside bar snacksMore

We stopped here for a 3 night short stay. The location was perfect, our room was beautiful - spotlessly clean. Breakfasts were fabulous. The chef Jim went out of his way for us and nothing was too much trouble. The duty manager on our first...night was Molly and she was a credit to the hotel. We ate there on our first night and the food was really good. In fact all of the staff were excellent and we very much enjoyed our stayMore

Mediocre at best, not very busy but waited quite a while for food. When the food arrived it was poor quality, it bears no resemblance to pictures online. Very cheap ingredients being sold at very high prices for what you get. I had the fish...and chips they must have run out of chunky chips so instead of cooking more they put some cold fries on as well, we ordered a child’s chicken in a basket and an adult’s one and they came out exactly the same just £9 more for the adults one. Staff didn’t seem very happy to be there although I’m not surprised, serving below average food and flat drinks must take its toll. Best avoided you’ll get a much better meal a few minutes walk away.More

Unfortunately we were disappointed with our visit. I thought the menu was basic and expensive for what you got. We chose the lamb hotpot which was very small with about 5 very thin slices of potato on top. Not much choice on the menu and...both with the mains and deserts one choice was unavailable. For a Thursday evening it was very quiet. We booked for 7pm and I don't think anyone came in after us. My husband said that the Gents toilets needed s spruce up. Most importantly ,we were frozen. The radiator next to us was not on and although there was some other kind of heater next to it switched on and felt hot, it was not giving out any heat.More

We went for a late breakfast had a starter each and the pancake breakfast as a desert . Bizarrely we were told that’s a lot of food by the waitress! 😂yes we are hungry !! 😇😱 and no it wasn’t !! It was an average...amount !! The portions for starters were good size , however the sharing platter wasn’t huge and if you were just getting that ! You may come away still hungry !! Seemingly the other breakfast one is better !! Breakfast is served til 2 !! Which I thought was good 👍More

My second stay at this hotel. It has a good location, being just a short distance to the centre and to the rail station. It offers clean & comfortable rooms as well as varied food and a good range of ale.

Visited on the off chance for food. Very quiet and was able to chose a table. Ordered roast dinners. Both roast dinners were lovely. Beautiful chicken & beef & veg. Let down by the gravy which had little taste and was so watery. Our son...ordered a plain burger that unfortunately came out with marmalade relish on. The lady then came out to see if we wanted a new burger or the chef to scrape the relish off. Most peculiar. Staff pleasant especially the lass who served us. Will definitely return.More

Stayed over for one night and had a meal in the evening. Room was lovely and looks just like the photos so no complaints there. However dining was a complete different experience. Being Coeliac I ordered the Ribeye steak medium for main mentioning it needed...to be free from Gluten. The steak came and unfortunately it has been over cooked and ruined so had sent it back but this then meant my wife had pretty much finished her main by the time a fresh steak was cooked! I noticed they had Gluten Free Sticky Toffee pudding on the menu so i ordered it again mentioning gluten free only for it to be brought out with a wafer roll on it which turned out to contain gluten! They made their excuses but by this time I'd had enough and didn't to risk another mistake being made. We also had breakfast in the morning which was included in the room but annoyingly i was told the sausage which are made locally contain gluten and they had run out of hash browns! If they are going to offer Gluten Free then i recommend they look at their processes and see where they can be improved to avoid these thingsMore

We booked an overnight stay to break up our journey from Dorset. On arrival we were greeted by Charlie at reception who was particularly cheery and helpful. The accommodation was great, with a large room and large bed. As we had 2 dogs with us...we ate in the bar. The food was great and the vegetarian pie was the best I've had in a long time. Carrying on with the food theme, the breakfasts, both traditional and vegetarian were particularly good. We are already planning a return to Lancaster purely to spend more time at the Borough.More

Parking outside is free on sundays and pay and display with one hour limit between 8am and 6pm. There are plenty of long stay car parks in the area. And free street parking 5 minuets walk away.
