I was introduced to the Glass Strawberry by my daughters who 'discovered ' it with their friends. I have been here a number of times but have not reviewed and thought that I should as every time I have eaten here it has been brilliant. Lovely freshly made food, lovely helpful staff. I visited this Sunday with some of my family and it was my turn to introduce the Glass Strawberry to someone new to it, my husband. My husband had the full English breakfast which he really enjoyed. I thought I would be healthy and have an halloumi salad. The salad was tasty, lots of variety, light and fresh and the halloumi was cooked just right. Everything is very reasonably priced for the amount you get and I would recommend the mug of Yorkshire tea. Perfect! Thank you!

Went on a Sunday for brunch and had a bacon/halloumi sandwich, big 5 smoothie and a chocolate milkshake and all were really tasty. Service was pleasant and it's very reasonably priced, there's a lot to try on the menu so I'm very keen to go back and sample some more. The place itself was lovely inside and kept very clean. Great work, can't wait to come back :)

I had been wanting to try this place for a while after hearing such good reviews, and I can honestly see why this place is so popular! A great selection on the menu of breakfast/brunch/lunch/cakes etc. I had the pancakes which were served warm and fresh with plenty of syrup and fruit, I was unable to finish them as they were nice and filling. I also had one of the milkshakes which I was very impressed by, it was served in a mason jar with chocolate and sprinkles around the rim, with cream and a donut on top - delicious!

Having enquired about'Aftetnoon Tea' by phone for 31st August. I was told there was only a table at 9.30am and one at 4.30pm. I double checked if 'Afternoon Tea' was included in the 'Eat Out to Help Out' and was told it was and it was the last day for it on 31st August. So i booked a table for 2 for 'Afternoon Tea'...
After reading the reviews i saw a woman had booked for 'Afternoon Tea' earlier in the month and when she got there it wasn't booked.
So today 3 hours before we were due to go i phoned to check they had my booking for 4.30 for 'Afternoon Tea'. To be told they had my booking but not for 'Afternoon Tea'. I insisted i had booked the 'Afternoon Tea' to be told i couldn't have because i had not paid a deposit and been asked about any allergies.
There obviously is a problem with a member/members of staff not taking these bookings properly....
I thought i would bring this to the managers attention and wonder how many more times this has happened.

Hi Dawn,
Thank you for your review. At the beginning of the ‘Eat Out Scheme’ we certainly did have a few issues with our booking system & we evaluated it and improved it & made amends with the customers that it effected. This is why we tightened our systems considerably. All afternoon teas thereafter could & can only be booked by myself the Manager. I control the bookings. I remember your phone call very well, my assistant came & asked about any availability and you were told those available. Your answer at the time to this was ‘ I’ll be in touch’. We remember it very well because we both thought it was a strange reply from someone desperate to get booked in. I’m afraid ‘ I’ll be in touch’ does not constitute a booking. We marked out a table at the time for your reply, but as you didn’t come back to us, the afternoon tea slot was given away to someone else.
We are very sorry you were disappointed on this occasion.
Kind regards,
The Manager.

On calling the day before to arrange afternoon tea We arrived at the cafe to be told that my booking had not been arranged. Mistakes happen and this would have been fine if the manager/owner had not have been so rude and had actually apologised for the mistake. Instead I was questioned as to whether I had booked it at all or had booked in for the wrong day. On informing the manager that I had booked it I was then informed that I hadn’t pre-paid for it (which I was not made aware of). The manager then went on to tell me how I should be grateful that I had a table and should order something from the menu. I get mistakes happen however to receive such appalling customer service from the manager/ owner and not once receive an apology for the mistake is unacceptable. Will not be visiting again

Dear Rachel,
We are disappointed that you feel it necessary to give us such a bad review considering the circumstances of your visit. Mistakes do happen & we will put our hand up and try our best to put right a mistake we have made. During the ‘Eat Out’ campaign we have definitely made some mistakes, ensured those customers were satisfied, and learning from them, have ensured that booking is more secure.
This was the reason we asked you some key questions. You said you had booked for afternoon tea 24 hours earlier, but we have been fully booked for afternoon tea all of August since the second week. All the staff know that we had one available day left, Thursday 26th. So it would have been impossible for to have booked the day before.
We then asked if you had paid for your afternoon tea. ( all of these questions were to establish we had not messed up!) you replied that you hadn’t. But we always ask for payment when booking.
We then checked the restaurant seating diary and did confirm that you did have a table booked for 12.30pm just as you said. We do not serve afternoon teas until after 1pm on any day and this is written across the top of every page of the afternoon tea bookings diary, so again we find it quite impossible that you had actually booked a tea with us.
Your line ‘ The Manager then went on to tell me how I should be grateful that I had a table’ is total fabrication and you must be very careful how you write things down in a review as you are opening yourself up to being sued for defamation. I would never talk to a customer in this manner, we wouldn’t have any customers left if I did. I value every single customer that walks through our door, and if you read other reviews you can see that our customer service is exemplary. Having established that we had not messed up I informed you that unfortunately we did not have a booking for afternoon tea for you but we did indeed have your table booking if you would like to eat from our regular menu. If you were disappointed by this, I’m sorry but as you yourself pointed out, mistakes do happen and occasionally you know, the customer makes one as well. Please don’t take your disappointment & anger out on us.
With kind regards,
The Manager,
The Glass Strawberry 🍓

I decided to visit this place with my partner after reading nothing but good reviews but I wish I hadn’t, the staff today took nearly 20 minutes to come round to the table even though it wasn’t busy & messed up the simplest of orders. The rude ginger server with the sarcastic attitude decided to joke and comment on my order “you’d really order pancakes without anything on them” to the chef loud enough for us to hear and continued to comment on it to another server 5 minutes later when it had been served while staring and glaring till I looked at you. The food and drink for what it is is overpriced and with the service provided is not worth any amount of money & the staff are a complete joke to the point where I purposely made an account just to post a review I wouldn’t normally do. Avoid

Visited here early afternoon today and was absolutely appalled. Begin of the visit was fab, got a table within 5 minutes and we expected much longer with it being a Saturday. We were told that the table needed to be back within an hour for a booking which is completely understandable. Then waited 30minutes for 2 sandwiches then had to wait a further 10minutes for my friends pizza to come to the table. The man then came back over as my friend was finishing her food and said he needed the table now for the booking and he could give a takeaway box for the food!!! Completely unacceptable when she had to wait 40 minutes for her food to arrive something totally out of our control. The first and last time I shall be visiting which is a disappointment because I had heard good things. But to be rushed and told to have a takeaway box Is an absolute joke!! RUDE

Was really looking forward to visiting this cafe after reading about all the fabulous reviews but I have to say we were disappointed with our visit. I ordered a ham sandwich which came with crisps and a small salad. The sandwich filling was sparse, with a single slice of ham which was disappointing for the price. For two sandwiches and drinks we paid over £20. We won’t be going out of our way to go back I’m afraid

My sister-in-law and I visited a month back after seeing the afternoon tea online and were eager to try. It did not disappoint! The food was all absolutely delicious, the presentation of it was so pretty and the place it’s self is lovely, quirky and clean. We look forward to going back to try pretty much most of the menu we has our eye on!
My brother and I wanted to treat our mum to the afternoon tea for Mother’s Day and booked to go. Unfortunately with the closure of cafe’s and restaurants we were unable to go in but the Glass Strawberry went above and beyond to make sure we still got the best experience at home. Including all of the delicious sandwiches, cakes, scones and not forgetting the lovely soup- all fresh and beautifully prepared. They even sent the decorative flowers and a cake stand to serve. Thank you so much for ensuring we could still spoil our mum on Mother’s Day and going out of your way to make it extra special.

My wife and I have visited The Glass Strawberry many times now and have always received the same helpful, efficient and very friendly service. The menu is the main reason for us that they are our number one choice. My wife is a Vegetarian, I am not (although I do eat vegetarian on a regular basis) and we both find a very wide choice on the menu. Breakfasts, light lunches or main courses are all well catered for, in fact the only problem we have is trying to leave enough room for the gorgeous selection of cakes! WONDERFUL!!! Would give 6 out of 5 if we could!

I have used the Glass Strawberry many times with colleges.
Went for lunch today outside table 33, had a mega breakfast terrible absolutely, dry chippalater sausages not meat im sure! no toast has stated on the menu i asked 3 waiting on staff for my toast never arrived, my coffee was taken whilst I was on the phone, asked for a replacement that fell on deaf ears. I went to complain prior to leaving totally egnored, all I wanted to do was to make the management aware. Never again really disappointed, must be a staff change, I really appreciate we all have to learn, customer relations needs addressing.

Dear Pornstar,
We are terribly sorry you did not receive our usual service on your most recent visit. Unfortunately we have been through a very difficult few weeks with horrendous staff shortages due to the pandemic. As you were seated outside it’s possible you didn’t see all the notices we have explaining these difficulties to our customers. As we have been left in terrible debt and with a few thousand pounds of fresh stock on the premises every day that would have to be given away if we close suddenly, we have tried to remain open as much as we can. We have very quickly taken on additional staff to cover the absences, unfortunately not all of them have been able to maintain our standards and have had to be replaced. The sausages on our mega Breakfast are bought fresh from Plane & Armstrong butchers on Doncaster market. We trialled a different sausage from May to July this year but customers voted to return to the ones we have always used, which most customers are happy with.
You mention that you have visited us many times before, we presume you have been happy on these occasions? But the thing is ….. we cannot seem to find all those previous reviews? Guess that’s the world we live in nowadays. 🍓

Lovely birthday afternoon tea with my daughter. The food was lovely especially the leek and potato soup. If I could make in suggestion it would be more sandwiches and less cake - we had to take our cakes home because we were so full after the beautiful light scone. Service was good and they even allowed to sit down earlier. Staff are professional and attentive.

I'm a regular customer here and I have been since they first opened. It's one of the only cafes I feel 100% comfortable and happy in and everything about it is amazing.
The staff are always so friendly and accommodating and the food is just something else! The prices are incredibly reasonable for the quality, taste and amazing presentation you receive with every meal too. I would 100% recommend the Glass Strawberry to anyone looking for somewhere nice to have breakfast, lunch or tea - it is just an all round amazing venue.

When placing our order, the waitress asked if we could pay upfront - worse decision I made.
My wife had pancakes loaded with fruit. She ate about 1/3rd of this and realised there was something crawling out of the fruit. We called the waitress over and she couldn't of been more apologetic. So she acted on this for us and sent the manager over.
The managers reply was 'it was a little caterpillar, our food is organic and this can happen, we will get the chefs to check food when plating up'. In what I thought was a cocky manner! After polishing off my Mega Breakfast, what also lacked flavour, I instantly felt sick once the bug was found.
The least I expected was them to give me my money back for this experience or at least a voucher to use to come back (if I dared) Absolutely disgraceful.
Top tip to others - never pay upfront!

Dear Liam,
Thank you for your review. We once again apologise for the caterpillar that was on your pancakes. When the Manager came to your table your wife at first thought that it was a maggot in her fruit & our manager was simply trying to reassure you that it wasn’t & that it was a caterpillar. Unfortunately your wife was unresponsive to any offers we made to change the meal, get you free drinks or anything & would no longer even enter into dialogue or look at her, just waving her away with the words “it’s fine”. Had you have continued with the dialogue or progressed to asking for a refund we most certainly would have given you one. Very happy that you managed to polish off the breakfast tho 😊🍓

Visited on Aug bank holiday Monday with friends for brunch, we hadn't booked beforehand and called up 30 mins before asking if we could book and were told there would be no availibility until 7.30pm but that we could walk in and maybe get a table. We got there and were seated straight away inside for 1 hour which was plenty of time. The service was brilliant, staff were friendly and took their time and tended to customers brilliantly. The food was quick and beautifully presented and tasted great. So glad we went, thank you!
