Went there for a late lunch with my wife. We go maybe a couple of times a month and we have never been let down. Cod and chips with a cup of tea. Very nice.

From the moment we sat down the experience was exceptional. Our waiter was really pleasant, polite and helpful. AND the food? Utterly deliciously awesome!!!!
The " go to"fish restaurant in Doncaster. Cooked to perfection and even the small portion is ample. Top tip... go for the garlic prawns as a starter. You get 6 so it's ideal for 2 to share ! All served up by a delightful young...lady called Leah. Note to Leah, i put the c in like you told me to.More
Great fish and chips. Quick service . Disability friendly Salads are not the best so we tend to visit for fish and chips. Sometimes hard if 1 person in the party doesn’t fancy it
Whitby’s has been my go to place for fish and chips since it opened in Doncaster. My family and I often pop in the restaurant, or sometimes takeaway. The food is always excellent, and the service fantastic. This evening, after a long and unexpectedly stressful...day, I popped there unfortunately alone for a late dinner. Although it was late, in fact not too long before closing, both Ben (restaurant) and Tia (takeaway) were so lovely, smiley and welcoming. Thank you guys.More
Have been here on many occasions with family in the restaurant and always enjoyed the food and service. Went to the takeaway today for the first time as I was working in the area, again all good. Chips were fresh, cod white, batter crispy and...the curry sauce WOW. Does exactly what it says on the tin.More
Haven't been here for a while, I used the takeaway part of the business. Wanted a fishcake as I remember them as being large and tasty. So disappointed with my whole order. The fishcake was tiny and overcooked, the chips weren't nice and were mainly...scraps of potato. My daughter said the fish was okay but the batter was soft. Service was extremely slow. I regretted putting some money in the tip box as I was waiting for my order. Won't be going again.More
Sadly we won’t be returning. Not your usual standard. I looked for an email to send privately to the manager but could not find one on your website- hence this public review. Attended this evening for my partners birthday, placed our order for starters and...mains. An accident occurred at the kitchen hatch whereby one of our starters was dropped. Not an issue to us. Waitress informed us we would have to wait a bit longer yet the starter that wasn’t dropped was brought to the table? Why? So my partner sat with his starter in front of him and waited until the other starter was remade and brought to the table. Wouldn’t the etiquette to have been to have brought both starters together? Mains came- we were informed at the point of ordering that there was no haddock or plaice available so we ordered cod and chips instead. The chips were very bitty- not your usual standard- just scabby small end dried bits of potato which we didn’t eat. We had been offered sauces at the point of ordering which weren’t brought so we asked for them half way through eating (perhaps I’m being picky with that one and to be fair- I wouldn’t have ordinarily gone to the lengths and left a review for these minor things but the final straw tipped me over the edge) … We asked for the bill which was promptly brought to the table. I left cash including a small tip on the table and we quietly left. There was a young waiter clearing our table upon us leaving so we said the payment was there which he thanked us for. Upon getting to the car park the back patio doors were opened by a waitress who collared us in the car park and said there did not appear to have been payment made! I explained I had left cash on the table. She said she needed to go back and check to which she then located the cash we had left and mouthed “sorry” Now perhaps maybe people don’t often pay with old skool cash anymore - however don’t fly out the door embarrassing us in front of other diners before actually checking the table. Quote directly from your website “OUR AIM IS TO GET YOU TO LEAVE WITH A SMILE ON YOUR FACE... AND COMING BACK FOR MORE! “ Sadly for us- it was not the best birthday experience and I don’t actually want to come back any more. It was a disappointment all round to say the least and I do hope with reviews like this that you can make improvements in the future.More
Amazing fish and chips. I had battered haddock and scampi, both of which were delicious, as were the chips, mushy peas and salad. I had a knickerboxer glory for desert which was also perfectly made. Staff were excellent and it was a lovely atmosphere inside...the restaurant. There is also decent parking for blue badge holders. Overall, an excellent meal out.More

Attended the Restaurant on Sunday 10 September at 15:35. A young lady greeted us and said " a table for two" She then took us towards the window facing the fire station. There was a big party of people in that area with a lot...of children running about, so we asked if we could use a booth (table 22 ) Which was vacant. She turned around and without speaking threw the menus onto the table from about 2 metres away and marched off. About 5 minuets later a waiter came and took our order. We use the Restaurant twice a week and have never come across such an aggressive manner before, in any restaurant. Her actions really stunned us and spoilt our dining experience. The food was good as it always is but one bad apple can ruin an experience and has given us a moment to pause on whether we return again. Table 22 Trans # 1490801 @ 16:07 Alan StaceyMore
Mr Stacey, Thank you for your valuable feedback following your recent dining experience at Whitby’s Restaurant. I am glad the food was up to our usual high standards, however, I was genuinely concerned to read about the greeting you experienced during your visit. Given the...More
We go regularly and usually very nice, today they were terrible, fish was dry and the chips were cold dried up and all bits, won’t be returning (Takeaway)
Last nights left over chips and fish simply fried again for early lunch the next day! Why is English catering so poor? Rgil1256
The food was good but the service was shocking. Mid meal the staff swapped. Our first server was brilliant but the second came to take our plates away and we asked about desserts then and he said he would come back. After about 15 minutes...waiting we then asked another lady who said "he'll be right over". We waited another 15 minutes and still he never came over. We ended up just going to the checkout ourselves to pay and leave so they ended up missing out on us ordering 5 puddings.More
