This is a good venue to eat and drink. The pub is vibrant and has a good choice of beer whilst the indian restuarant at the back of the pub provides good quality indian food. It is a very relaxing place to eat.

As this is one our families local pub we thought that we would drop in on a Sunday afternoon for a quite ale or 2. We were surprised that they do not do lunch! After visiting quite a few pubs we were amazed. We visited here again last night with our family and we were not disappointed; the pub was... More

Great to have a pub in the front part and an Asian restaurant in the rear part. Seems a very successful arrangement. Pub is a friendly locals 'sports' bar but not a great selection of real ale for the CAMRA types. The restaurant owner is very friendly and helpful. The menu is extensive, food was excellent, individually cooked curries and... More

Prawn Tawa unusual and very tasty. Good Chicken Balti, naan bread and popodums. Well above average. The place is attached to the pub who charged me £3.10 for a Peroni (70 c in Itay)

Nice place, comfortable and has a good atmosphere. £5.45 for a mixed kebab starter (nice onion bhaji) maybe a little too much - same could be said for the main dishes a lot of which were £10+ and not quite worth the price tag - I'd expect something better TBH. My Achari Chicken was decent enough & the garlic naan... More

We wondered into this restaurant on Sunday evening, there were plenty of free tables, we pursued the menu and ordered both food drinks Service was somewhat slow, I think they were maybe watching the England game on TV, When the food finally arrived it was not of a good standard, we have never had worse! We did not complain, we... More

Working in town on business Friday afternoon, I visited the Volunteers pub on the outskirts of town. It was already filling up with locals at 3.30pm. The atmosphere was really jovial, everyone seemed to like to have a laugh with the landlord Peter, This is a proper traditional pub serving a nice range of traditional ales (which I like) Ciders... The Volunteer Inn is a busy, lively pub that has two well kept local Ales on hand pump and the excellent Maharaja Indian Restaurant attached to it. There are a couple of TVs in the bar and one outside by the smoking area showing sports and a nice garden out the back. We had two takeaways during our stay and... More

I had a really good Indian meal - and the best (and biggest) Naan ever! The price was very reasonable.
