An absolute amazing traditional pub that serves excellent food. Bar staff are fantastic and accommodating. We had an excellent evening and returned the following week for what can only be described as one of the best Sunday roasts I’ve ever had, and I believe the chef even kept the kitchen open a little longer for us.
Cannot give enough praise.

Enjoyable lunch with really tasty pie and the beer was also first class. A very good choice of beer and cider is available. The food is not exactly cheap but it is of good quality so I feel it's value for money.
The menu has plenty of choices and I would be happy to return to try more of the options.
If the half-mile walk out of central Manchester is too much for your little legs, buses run frequently and stop nearby. Routes 17 and 163 for example.

This is gonna be a bit of a long review, but I really wanted to thank not only the staff who took great care of us on our last visit, but the pub as a whole for having been a part of our lives for some time.
Marble Arch was our local when my partner&I moved into our first flat together, over 10 years ago, and walking in expecting just "the closest pub to our flat", seeing the gorgeous mosaic floor, brickwork and ceiling was a great first impression, raised further by the fantastic beer, largely from their brewery, and then seeing the food menu, at the time a really exciting, more upmarket seasonal offering, albiet priced as a little bit of a treat. Everything we saw and tried went from strength to strength, and helped create a really memorable evening underlining us starting a new chapter in our lives, and became a go-to for a celebratory meal or just a couple pints.
We've since moved out past the opposite end of the city, so hadn't been back in some years, but when looking for a pub quiz and a nice meal to take my cousin visiting from NZ, I was delighted to find that I could combine the two and revisit one of my favourite pubs in the city. My partner has since discovered she's gluten-intolerant, and the staff were very helpful when I called up to check she could be accommodated, talking through options and offering substitutions. When we arrived, the chef even offered to make a gluten-free batter just for her, so she had the chance to enjoy classic fish+chips for the first time in years! The current menu is classic pub dishes, very reasonably priced, and cooked to a standard that I would say reaches the ideal of what pub food can be; unpretentious, rich, hearty, filling. The steak+ale pie with their own Marble Stout, clearly made in house and all the better for it. The burger tasted as good as it looked, and the whole table's heads turned when we saw one brought out!
The staff were relaxed, friendly and attentive throughout. The bar I work in sees a lot of tourists, and I've always recommended Marble Arch when asked about where to go for a "classic british pub", and I was thrilled to find out that, despite having taken a couple years' break myself, it was still more than living up to the memories, and might be the only venue in the city which is actually cheaper than it was 10 years ago! Only downside is now I wanna go back more regularly, it's so much further away!

Come here regularly with family and the spectacular failures of the vegetarian options never cease to amaze me. It's really not hard to cook decent vegetarian food yet they get it wrong every time, and charge crazy money for it. My last three meals have been as follows: "Cauliflower steak" that was just a slice of hard, flavourless cauliflower. A Sunday roast that was just a pasty masquerading as a "Wellington" thrown on a plate with a couple of potatoes served with a thimble of flavourless watery gravy and some limp soggy veg, the rock hard flavourless cauliflower cheese giving me flashbacks to the previous pathetic cauliflower offering. Today decided to dodge a bullet with the "roast" and went for the "aubergine katsu curry" that was just... an aubergine. A whole, tasteless, underseasoned, undercooked, aubergine, squeaky to the bite, tough as an old boot, with some plain white rice, a dribble
of pre-mix curry sauce and some sad
looking bok choi. Twelve quid and still absolutely starving after. I can never make a fuss as I don't want to cause a scene in front of family but I'm going to have to either make my excuses and not come from now on or divert them to one of the hundreds of other pubs in Manchester that actually serve quality well cooked food and don't just shove an undercooked vegetable on a plate and charge twelve quid for it.

Have been here loads of times in the past and had great food experiences, however I went last night for the first time in 12 months and felt the need to express how disappointed I am at the change. The portions of food was the issue, the corned beef ash we ordered was the size of a babies hand , made to look more with 3 big chunks of bread. Then there was the cheese board, to which this pub was famous for , I was amazed at the size of the pieces we were given, honestly we laughed as it was a shock that they were even served . Sad day to write this as I I have always recommend this pub.

Hi Lisa,
Thank you once again for your review and feedback ( I have responded to the same review via a different site a couple of days ago)
I am extremely disappointed to hear of your experience at the Marble Arch but i must add that we have not altered our portion size on any of our dishes over the last two years.
I am sure that should you have spoken to the Duty Manager this issue would have been rectified at the time.
Please accept my apologies and i will certainly feed this back to the kitchen and the front of house team in order to investigate further, should you wish to discuss this please do not hesitate to contact me directly at the Marble Arch.
Regards
Kerry

Omg, my son brought me here for some lunch, we only came because of the reviews, and we was not disappointed.
WoW, food was absolutely stunning, I had the Rarebit and my son had the crispy belly pork 😋 for starters, I couldn't eat all mine, 5 pieces and that was a starter !! My son had to eat 2 pieces, and he said this is THE best cheese on toast he's ever tasted !! For our mains I had the small fish and chips as I was already half way to being full from my starter 😂 it was crispy batter and cooked beautifully chips was perfect, it comes with minted peas, which unfortunately I left as I don't like minted peas, but that's just my preference. My son had the blade of beef, wow, wow and wow 👌
The 2 lads serving were so lovely and polite and allowed us to set up a tab, rather than paying for everything separately (drinks)
All in all this little gem gets 💯 from us and even though it is a bit out of our way, we will definitely come again.
Well done The Marble Arch

We visited this pub as we were staying in The Crowne Plaza hotel about 200 meters away and wanted to try somewhere local. What an amazing find. It doesnt look anything special from the outside, but once you enter it is just full of character. We were greeted as if we had been going there for years by friendly and very knowledgable bar staff. I usually drink lager but was so impressed with the range of real beers,I decided to try some of them. The barman explained what each one tasted of and where they were from, which was really interesting. Then we get to the food. Amazing is all I can say. Didnt really know what to expect but it was fabulous. To start,my wife had crispy pork belly bites and I had a beer rarebit, both really tasty. For the main course my wife had the blade of beef and I had the beef pie which were both outstanding. The portions were very large which meant we had to forego the excellent looking cheese board, but we will try that the next time we visit. So basically,if you are anywhere near this amazing pub, whether you want food or just a drink,go to this place. You will not be disappointed. Well done to all concerned.

We came here for a work meal as a party of 12. Manager Jason and his team were great to deal with from our initial enquiry and throughout the evening, and were very patient with changes to numbers and menu choices. All our group agreed the food was really good - the Marble Pie was a proper home-cooked favourite! Thanks Jason and team .

Trip spoiled by loud hammered group in back room trying to slap each other (and that was just the women!) Landlord should have chucked them out. Whilst waiting to order at 7.30pm the kitchen closed due to a big order coming in. Disappointing...

Superb food, was a little apprehensive at first, as this is a good old fashioned Victorian pub selling a great range of craft beers.
Add to that and excellent menu and beautifully prepared food. This is a talented chef and a good size portion.
Hidden away, but highly recommended

Although a little out of town this is a place it is definitely worth finding in a kind of pilgrimage to a Mancunian institution! You feel like you've stepped back in time when you go in and the marbled walls and intricate ceiling are a throwback to Victorian times.
The services is excellent and it's worth noting the bar is card only payments. They have fantastic range of beers at very reasonable prices and the two we had were delicious.
They do food as well and in the beer garden at the back there are some nice little huts that have heaters in so you can sit outside in all weather. The atmosphere is extremely relaxed and it seems to attract a more mature crowd.

We chose this pub for a lunch after a baptism because it was down the road from the church and reviews looked great. The pub is stunning and had a great atmosphere but I disagree with people saying it’s family friendly. There is no children’s menu but instead children order the smaller (around £14) version of something. The staff were great and booking was easy but just a warning to anyone thinking of taking kids in..I wouldn’t.

Thank you for the kind review. We're sorry that you didn't feel it was suitable for your family, but hope that you might return for a drink or a bite to eat for yourselves at some stage.
We have an open kitchen and our chefs are always happy to work with people to satisfy smaller appetites if our small portions are still too big.

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch that couldn’t be faulted.
The Marble Arch is a very traditional pub which has character, great staff and fantastic traditional food.
I ordered Belly Pork, and my husband ordered beef with an extra serving of cauliflower cheese. Both meals were exceptional. Tasty, flavoursome, well cooked. The meat was tender, melt in the mouth deliciousness and the vegetables were traditional, tasty and moorish.
We ordered the apple and raisin strudel to share for dessert…exceptional…the custard was fantastic and homemade which is a welcomed bonus.
Manchester benefits from amazing restaurants, serving all different cuisines, you are really spoilt for choice…but for a Sunday lunch this place is difficult to beat!

Whenever we are in Manchester we always visit The Marble Arch. It doesn't look much from the outside, but you will not regret popping into this pub which is full of character for a pint of local beer/cider or lager. Also, take a look at the menu because the food is quite honestly some of the best 'pub food' that we have tasted anywhere. It is outstanding!!! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and if you are unsure which beer to try, they will offer you a taster. Cannot say enough about this place but we will be back when next in Manchester, guaranteed !!

We were lucky enough to find one of the pods outside empty. There were 6 of us. It was comfy and cosy.
The food was amazing. The Welsh rarebit was incredible, the pork starter was sooo tender and tasty. The crispy squid was perfectly cooked.
Then I had the feather blade pie. Wow ! Tender, tasty meat and perfect pastry.
The 2 gentlemen staff were very helpful and friendly. Perfect service.
Thank you all. We will be back next time we’re in Manchester!
