Went for Sunday brunch as a mini treat. The café is certainly set in pleasant surroundings, but that is the highlight. The menu was fairly limited and we all went for dishes with poached eggs. The drinks came relatively quickly but the food took way too long (the only cooked element for all three dishes was poached eggs) and as a result the drinks were stone cold. I would hazard a guess that the dishes had been stood a while as the eggs were also stone cold, but the waiter insisted that they stood on the pass no longer than 30 seconds. We had ordered a second round of hot drinks to coincide with the food, but they then arrived long after the food was eaten. A somewhat disjointed meal and below average service. Definitely a triumph of style over substance

Walked into a few places just looking for toast for my daughter as shes the a fussy eater nobody did just toast . Found this and omg what a lovely lively place . Was busy and can see why . We had tea, smoothie and 2 rounds of different toast expected 1 slice for 2.50 but got 2 massive slices each I will 100% visit again when I'm next in manchester and order a proper breakfast . Cannot believe we always go to ivy and tried federal last month but this place will for sure get another visit just next time not for boring toast for her. Staff was very helpful and friendly.

Stumbled across this place while looking for a coffee & cake stop in central Manchester, but wanting to avoid the impersonal department stores & High Street coffee emporia. PKB occupies a large corner plot inside an old-fashioned arcade. But inside is very much more contemporary. Quite loud music pervades the space, young digital nomads tap away at their laptops and there are stools perched against a couple if huge communal tables in the centre of the cafe. The coffee - a simple Americano - was strong, fresh and hot. The pain aud raisins was yummy. Free WiFi & friendly service on a soggy, quiet afternoon. Not cheap, but altogether such a better experience than contributing to the empires of Nero, Costa or Starbuck.

Ultimately I have had a lot of poor visits. A lot of the time I struggle to get the staffs attention (pre and during covid-19 measures), you have to chase someone for the bill and they always seem to lack many of the options on their menu, but do not give you a heads up before leaving you to decide. Last visit, they asked if we had any allergies and we said one person was gluten free and vegetarian. He said that was fine and said the menu showed the GF options. She selected the only GF thing there was (subbing in GF bread) and when ordering he announced they did not have any GF bread, after taking all our orders and bringing our drinks. They then asked her on the spot to pick something else without telling her what she could actually have and in the end he offered some eggs and spinach. Which does not constitute a full meal and should not have been charged at full price. We then paid after spending ages waving down staff and as we left, a member of staff grabbed us and said we had not paid. This was false as we had paid on card. It transpired the payment had not gone through due to their faulty machine, but the staff member who took the payment had not noticed and did not come back to try again. She also watched us get scolded for ten minutes by another staff member before coming over to explain we had paid but it was their machines fault. Leaving us feeling attacked and shamed when it was entirely the venue at fault. I have to say it is a shame, I really tried many times, but will never be back to this cafe.

Arrived for Sunday brunch at the busy Spinningfields branch and were sent to the Barton Arcade branch as it was allegedly’3 times bigger’! Not sure about that! We were only 3 people but chose to sit outside and order directly at the till (to speed things up as we were starving by now!) Service was incredibly slow and the drinks were brought piecemeal and without milk for the coffee. By the time our food (poached eggs and avocado/smoked salmon on sour dough toast) had arrived the drinks were cold. The server forgot to bring out the cutlery and the third meal as she ‘hadn’t read the table order properly’ (her words). The eggs, even on arrival to the table, were already cold. We asked for more hot drinks as the first ones had gone cold. These took a while to come (food had already been mostly consumed). When we pointed out to the server that we were disappointed in the length of time to be served, the mismatch of bringing drinks and food so spaced apart and the cold eggs (I questioned whether they had sat too long ‘at the pass’), rather than apologise, we were given quite an abrupt response detailing the physical length of the pass and the intention to always bring food straight to the table. Despite the second round of hot drinks being deducted from the overall bill, something I would have expected as a minimum without question, no apology or sincerity of approach was forthcoming! We won’t be back and wouldn’t recommend! Case of style over substance. We could’ve produced nicer plates at home!

Was so disappointed by this place. Terrible sloppy COLD food looked as though it was just thrown on the plate. Got the vegan breakfast, don’t make the same mistake as me.Got about 4 mushrooms the size of my finger nail. Appalling service. Had to literally get up and ask for salt and pepper/water etc because customers seemed invisible to staff. Literally writing this review as we have just paid our bill after waiting for what seemed forever to track down a staff member. Didn’t even ask how it was just handed the machine over and ran off. Can’t believe we paid top dollar for this.

Visited mid morning for brunch and to catch up on emails. I was seated quickly, track and trace in place, order taken and received quickly which was great. The food however was not great, avocado on toast was way too much chilli and the cappuccino was cold. I left 3/4 of it but no one came to ask to me if there was a problem and it was impossible to get anyone’s attention, waiter told me when I was paying they were having staffing issues. There is only one customer toilet and it was messy with no hand sanitizer. All that said the atmosphere was great and the waiting staff were friendly and helpful

Service was great and vegan options were plentiful, but let down by poor value for money. We had the scrambled tofu on toast, brekkie bun, a mimosa and 2 hot drinks which all came to over £30 which for the sizes and quality of the drinks was rather expensive. It is in a good location and has nice decor so would come back again due to the friendly waiter but probably would avoid the cocktails and drinks as you can get better quality and price elsewhere.

I and my wife had always enjoyed this place, and often came for breakfast when staying in the city, but our most recent visit was a great letdown. Firstly the service was friendly but so very slow. We waited for ages to get our breakfast dishes. The menu had changed, and we think not for the better. We ordered porridge and at £6.00 a bowl was just overpriced and a glutinous mess ( Cinnamon sugar and compote accompanied the same )..Not tasty at all. Our preserves were Ok and the sourdough toast..we had to ask for extra milk. Coffee was ok, but again nothing special. Such a shame it used to be so good, but in our opinion prices have gone up and quality has gone down.Cant pay by cash either..you need a card. .We will not return

Solid choice for a brunch foodwise albeit expect a wait for a server. My husband was getting really annoyed at how long he had to wait to even be acknowledged, even for water or coffee. Definitely seem understaffed. I got the vegan breakfast sans beans or hash browns, with a poached egg mistakenly put on top. Honestly I was fine with that as I’m veg not vegan. All tasted delicious including the vegan black pudding. My husband got the miso caramel French toast which tasted somewhat odd to me but he enjoyed it save for the sesame brittle. I got the fruit flavoured herbal tea which came in a lovely big pot. He said the coffee was just ok. Gorgeous surroundings in the arcade.

This is a true gem of a place! It is situated in a beautiful building with great architectural features, brilliant hot drinks snd healthy food choices plus the staff are amazingly friendly. The young man who served us chatted quite happily about types of milk and the beauty of the arcade. It’s a must for visitors!

My partner and I visited PKB for brunch and was very disappointed. I ordered the PKB breakfast however they left off the main ingredients being the eggs. I then got a replacement which was cold and bland. Apparently the meal included mushrooms which I could not find. Staff were not very helpful or understanding of our problems either.

Really couldn’t fault this place for a light lunch/brunch in Manchester. We sat outside the cafe under the beautiful setting of the Barton Arcade and loved the airy feel to it with the ‘outside’ heaters. Ordered the Eggy cheese toast and Scrambled eggs on toast with smoked Salmon as an extra. The food was delicious and nothing for the waiter was too much trouble. All tiptop 100% Covid secure! We’ll definitely be back.

On arrival we were friendly greeted and shown to a nice seat by the window. The music was calm yet upbeat which created an ideal atmosphere for breakfast. The prices are very reasonable especially considering how great the food was and how well presented it was. The staff were very attentive and for example remembered how I liked my orange juice without me reminding them. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for breakfast anytime of the day.

A pretty average breakfast experience overall. The place is very nice looking and has a good vibe. The menu is somewhat limited with fussy little dishes which are mostly overpriced. Staff were clearly busy so can’t expect rapid service but our experience was very minimal with very little interaction from staff. Decent coffee and a good location. Plenty of potential to be something great.
