Food is very good. Would have got more stars, but I found out at the end of the bill, They charge £1.50 per head for two pots tea between eight people, considering they just keep Topping up with hot water and not a pot of...tea for everyone, and They added 10 percent sevice charge on top of it. This was not mention or printed on the menu or leaflet.. When enquiry was made, the waitress was very rude.. So the food gets full mark, but the way they operates leave a lot to be desire.More
We visited here as it is close to our son’s uni accommodation and it was getting late and we had a long drive back home afterwards. We popped in on the off chance so were really pleased they could accommodate us at short notice. The...restaurant itself seemed quite busy and we were asked for our order pretty much straight away. And that level of urgency continued throughout the meal. In fact it felt incredibly rushed to the extent that plates where being cleared before my son had finished his food (a personal pet hate for me). To top it off, I spilt some food on my blouse and proceeded to dab it with a red serviette from my side plate. Unfortunately the dye transferred to my white blouse and has basically ruined it. The food was ok; soup was nicer than the mains but they were fine. I thought it was quite expensive for what it was but then everything is surprising price - wise, these days. I’m not sure I’d return, especially wearing white!More
The food is authentic, suggest group people come together so can order many different types of dishes. Come here many times already, but this time we order the crispy roast pork belly. it suppost to be hot and crispy ,but this time it's room temperature,...not very good, but their dimsum still recommended to order. The egg fried rice also tasty too. Their milk tea and ice lemon tea is a bit too sweet for me, I like to order their hot tea. But their location is not right in the city center, but very close to the university of Manchester, the restaurant ground floor is orient supermarket .More
Great food and atmosphere joy looked after us very well interesting menus which you can mix and match to meet party requirements
Though now called Tai Wu, this restaurant was amazing. I have lived in Asia for a while, and was craving good dim sum. Huge selection of Dim Sum, Szechuan, and Cantonese dishes. Can’t wait to come back to try some roast dishes. Everything was delicious.
I wish it would let me submit a No star because it was worse than terrible. I went here for my partners birthay meal. Instead of this being a nice experience were left feeling very upset and angry. This was a meal for 4 people...we all ordered dim sums and mains and prawn crackers. Instead of the dim sums and prawn crackers comming first. Our mains dishes came first. It was a mess our table, No organisation staff were not helpful. Chips came last half way through the meal. There was no consideration. Staff were too busy to help. No communication when putting dishes on table they just left them. I complained and they told us it was our fault for how it was ordered. No common sense. When we explained how unhappy we was they wasnt bothered they just took off service charge. This was not the first time in this place we normaly have had good experience which I explained but for sure I will never return. It has definitely gone down hill. Lack of customer service. Worst mistake booking a table here.More
Whenever I visit my son in Manchester, we immediately go here for lunch. I decided to book well in advance because it was Friday lunchtime. When we arrived the place was absolutely rammed with a substantial numbers waiting for a table. Within 5 minutes of...our on time arrival my name was called out, much to the surprise of those queuing, and we were at our table. As far as I could make out we were the only non-Chinese in the restaurant; something I like and which reinforces the quality and authenticity of Tai Wu’s food (it used to be called Tai Pan). At this point I should mention that the service is incredibly polite and super efficient. Everything happens at pace which is very characteristic of a good dim sum restaurant. All of what you expect to see on the menu is there, but I would like to make special mention of the char siu cheung fun and the Beef Ho fun; it’s all fantastically authentic with none of those ‘designer’ dim sum dishes you find at some ultra premium places. It also happens to be very reasonably priced. I can’t recommend this place highly enoughMore
What was Tai Pan is now Tai Wu. Tai Pan was an old favourite, and the front of house staff who have stayed behind even recognised my voice on the phone. It now offers a smaller menu, which is actually much better because here are...fewer spicy stodgy northern and western dishes, so I would presume a southern, Hongkonger or Cantonese chef. The price is dearer, but so are many other restaurants of all cusines all over the place. The most important thing is the flavours are still there. Those that are dense and fragrant are still dense and fragrant, those that are light and plain are still light and plain. And the portions are actually bigger, for we need fewer dishes to get filled. My friends who have dined with me there many time all agreed that this will still be a place to meet and eat in future.More
We have just had another great meal here. Staff are fantastic, but this our regular stop when we simply want great chinese food. Dim sum is extensive and excellent, s&p squid is to die for and the stuffed duck and mixed meats are made in...heaven. Always heavily populated with Chinese families - which says a lot - and generally busy. We decided we would try elsewhere recently to see if it was still the best, soon came back thoughMore
It was great to get back and see the front of house manager and staff who are helpful and professional..Pekingese hot and sour soup particularly delicious Cantonese style beef ..fried rice..all so good
This was the Tai Pan and is now reborn and renamed as the Tai Wu. Been going for years and it is as good today as it was on the first occasion. It is the best in Manchester that I have been to and that...is about 20. It compares with those which are the best that Gerard Street, London has to offer and those in Hong Kong too. The others in Manchester do not match up to it. The food at Tai Wu is always up to scratch - the hard part is getting a table on spec sometimes - it is that popular. The staff are professional and pleasant. Food is super. Parking can be difficult when it gets busy, despite it being about 1 mile from city centre.More
Our first visit before going to a show. The service was friendly, as we were in a hurry our food was fast and fresh. We had Szechuan prawns, beef, a couple of starters. All polished off with some Chinese tea.
Ni hao Manchester “Tia Pan” restaurant is equal to our favorite Tia Pan restaurant in Liverpool serving what only can be described as proper bits of China 🇨🇳. Normally we will eat here after a monthly visit to Lungs supermarket buying material for the Mrs...🇨🇳 Chinese home cooking. Thankfully this western 🇬🇧 husband will just sit back and wait for the dishes to arrive at the table. To be totally honest some of selections ordered from the proper Chinese menu are not really my cup of tea, if you understand the meaning. Wouldn’t describe either locations as a romantic setting just somewhere you can enjoy wholesome food of quality mainly in the company of eastern folk. Oh yeah the menu price and service received are very good. Xiexie.. Gordon and SissiMore
Food was very good and authentic - although very overpriced. Meal for four was £170. Staff were very pushy to encourage you to order more drinks etc.
