Tried the Wednesday menu. Some of the best South Asian food I've eaten in recent memory (beware though, can be spicy for some)! The mango lassi and the garlic naan were both also delicious and highly recommended. Absolutely fantastic food and taste, at an incredible...price and served with a smile and great attitude from the staff - thanks Mo and team! Excellent model of restaurant and I wish you another 40 years of success and beyond. What a hidden gem that I will forever recommend to everyone!More

Knew this place from when I was at university years ago. Went back with a friend (regular customer). Though the place had changed visually the essence hadn't. If you want really good Pakistani food that won't cost an arm and a leg, this is the...place. No frills, the food is the focus here. Staff pleasant and respectful. Highly recommend.More

Best Indian/Pakistani food in Manchester. Not the smartest place but the food is incredible - authentic and great value.

First time here on a recommendation and have to say what a great place this is and refreshingly a bit different, good choice of curry’s all really flavoursome, decent portion and incredible value, you can add some extras if you want and all served with...fresh Nan or chapati etc. The team were very friendly and helpful, recognised I hadn’t been in before and really made you feel welcome. You sit on the benches to eat and there is a good atmosphere and buzz to the place, it’s certainly very popular and no surprise, will now be making this a regular place to go when in Manchester, well recommended.More

This & That, Café 3 Soap Street, Manchester M4 1EW Tel:0161 832 4971 Date of visit 5th October 2023 It is National Curry week so you would expect me to be sampling one somewhere! A trip into my hometown, Manchester, on a wet miserable day,...a disappointing start to the day waiting for what seemed a lifetime for the train from Cark to Lancaster with a change to the Manchester Airport train. The Northern service train was filthy, it hadn’t seen a vacuum cleaner or a damp cloth in a very long time. I wouldn’t mind, the damn thing was parked up somewhere yesterday or are the cleaners on strike as well? Anyway, the This & That Café. A difficult one this, I had been really looking forward to sampling the delights that I was led to believe on offer here! I struck up a very interesting conversation with a fellow traveller on the train who worked in Glasgow and lived in Sheffield, now that is some commute! A lovely lady who was of Indian descent and we had a very interesting conversation all things India, who went by the name of Kaniz. We had discussed my reason for this journey, and I had expressed my anticipation in view of my sons visit here and the reviews that I had read. Situated in a grubby little, hard to find, side street off high street, in the Northern Quarter of Manchester. I learnt many years ago not to judge a book by its cover following my visit to a grubby looking restaurant in Little Horton Lane, Bradford where to this day, the food was some of the best I’ve ever had! So, eventually, I found the place, even the Taxi driver did not know where it was! It was packed, but not to worry, they turn customers round here at an alarming pace. Now the SP here is that you approach a Bain Marie type of operation where the owner and his assistant offer you a choice of rice from two on offer, boiled or Biryani, and you choose three from six or maybe eight different curries to have with your rice! Which change on each day of the week. There are a selection of condiments, onions and Coriander on a small table as you leave the Bain Marie. Communication was a bit problematic, but I pointed out to a Lamb dish, a chic pea dish, and a sag aloo dish. It was unceremoniously dumped on the plate with the rice and quickly handed to me, I was then asked if I wanted a Naan or Roti to which chose a couple of rotis, these arrived very quickly piping red hot, soft and very fresh. To be fair the food was not that bad, but it left a strange taste in my mouth for the rest of the day, and again to be fair, I have had better. But if its posh nosh you are looking for with nice comfortable surroundings, This & That is not the place! It is not licenced, and I did not discover if they minded you bringing in your own beer, no one else had so I concluded that they did not allow it. But it is extremely cheap, I think it cost me under £15.00 The place was extremely busy with a very quick turn round of customers. Then off once more into the rain and a walk round town before heading for home! If it’s cheap and cheerful food, you are looking for then head for This & That, otherwise head for the Dishoom on Bridge Street! I would award this place 7/10More

Fabulous Indian food served simply. Pile on as much fresh green chilli and onion as you want. Second time here, if I was local I'd go twice a week. Friendly service and home cooked, fresh and flavoursome.

I'd done some Trip Advisor research and really liked the idea of This and That. They completely lived up to our expectations. A warm welcome from the staff - "Have you been here before? An explanation as to how "rice and three" (or 2 or...4) works. It's easy. Look at the board, find the day of the week and choose your dishes. I chose lamb saag, dal and bombay potatoes. My friend had chicken tikka masala, lamb korma and a vegetable dish. The food was delicious. We didn't have room for freshly cooked chapatis - although i did bring a couple of samosas home for breakfast tomorrow morning. A plate of beautifully cooked rice piled with a great selection of spicy but not too hot food. You can add chopped onion, chillies, coriander and chilli sauce to your heaped plate. The place was jumping with obvious regulars. Because it's canteen style you might just end up making a new friend or two. I can't wait to go back. 10/10. It was wonderful.More

I got the rice and three-2 meat and a veg. Curries were very average tasting-boring really. The naan was atrocious-supermarket style rubbish. What really annoyed was the portions-mine were so mean and yet the man after me got his plate piled high. Other men also...got huge portions compared to my rubbish plate. That’s not fair if we’re all paying the same price. I used to come here years ago and loved it-not any more. I’d never go again as there are far better tasting curries to be had all over Manchester plus sensible portion control that doesn’t discriminate.More

We have been using this place for decades and it never lets you down. I'm not sure it's quite as good as it used to be many years ago but it is still excellent and offers great value. It was a Thursday, so it was...Biriyani day which Means it was an easy choice. At £8 you get a large portion of freshly made food with lots of lamb and flavour to it. Other days they do different things and that's a great idea as it keeps it interesting and there's lots of variety. It's down to earth and you end up sharing benches with other people, but this is part of the fun.More

I've been coming on and off to This & That for the last probably 15-20 years and I can genuinely say that not once have I had a bad meal or experience in all that time. So what makes T&T so good? What makes us...drive 25 miles just to eat there? It can be broken down as follows. Food: The food is consistently amazing. No matter what you order, it is always hot, fresh and delicious.....whether it is veg or meat, the curries are unique in flavour and texture. The breads are amazing - strongly recommend the Garlic Roti. Freshly made (via Walkie Talkie) and taste amazing. If you are a fan of seekh kebabs, then you're in for a treat.....the lamb kebabs are simply fantastic. Staff: All the staff are brilliant. Patient with people unfamiliar with their concept and ultra-welcoming to everyone whether it's your first time or 100th time. All the curries are explained to you. Value for money There is simply no better value for money in the hospitality world than This and That. 2 meals, 2 kebabs, Garlic Naan, Garlic Roti, 2 drinks for just over £25. That is simply phenomenal value. So my thanks to the owners and staff at This and That.....it's simply one of my favourite places on earth. Luckily for me, it's within driving distance. Please go, support an independent business and enjoy every second of it. You're welcome. My usual criteria Ambience 8/10 - atmosphere is great - it's unashamedly a cafe and people talk to each other. Service 10/10 - You get served by the amazing staff Food 10/10 - Unbelievable flavours Value for Money 10/10 - I feel like I'm robbing them! Visit again? 100% yes and again ad infinitum......More

The restaurant is tucked away in a back street in Manchester City Centre, a case of if you know where it is, you know. Clean but basic decoration, straightforward and easy to understand menu, generous portions served with limited flair. Delicious food, not necessarily the...most visually appealing presentation, but for the price, outstanding. Tables for eating your food were clean but basic.More
