I was hesitant at first coming here due to the dodgy surrounding streets but as soon as i walked in knew it was the start of something brilliant. For 6 pounds you can get a full plate of 3 meat curries and rice. The restaurant was clean and the food was delicious, so much so that i went for a second plate. There were plenty of vegetarian options as well as meat ones as the menu rotates day to day with about 10 options each day. the curries were well flavoured and relatively mild although I'm sure there are spicier ones. I loved all the authenic curries and think that is the best place for a cheap filling lunch in manchester. The staff are brilliant and when i went up for my second plate i was given a fist bump and a complimery naan bread. They even got me to take a picture!

I was blown away with this little gem. Can’t believe I’ve not been before. Service is like a school canteen and you will be sitting next to people you don’t know. However if you’re after a quick, inexpensive, tasty spicy bite, then it’s perfect.

This is another favourite place of mine to eat at lunch. Although the premises are quite small, it serves as an intimate dining experience. There are different curries on offer for each separate day of the week, from chicken, lamb, veg and fish. The fish curries are my favourite, breads come as extra requests but there are condiments and water readily available.

This & that has been Manchester’s “hidden gem” for over a decade at least. It has become more known to the commuters, office workers and tourists of Manchester. I’ve been there several times over last few years. Mostly with work mates, friends and sometimes family. So this review isn’t just from one visit. Food: They market it as authentic, homemade and Indian curries. The food used to flavour back in 2000s. Now since 2010, I don’t think so. No flavour, no spices or any authenticity. I’ve had Indian all my life. From Gujarati to South Indian food. I can tell the difference. This food isn’t even half hearted effort of making a good curry. At most they over use turmeric and salt. Food is bland and tasteless. Certainly overhyped. Service: I figure most places get a little too self aware of their fame and that reflects in their service. This place is one of them. The staff hardly care about the customers, no interaction, same old impolite service, stingy on portion sizes with some and not with others. All they want is you to get out of the queue, pay and leave. Cost: They’ve hiked it for no apparent reason it feels. Like TFL their prices go up every year. Their quality however doesn’t. Conclusion: It’s gone downhill, with food and more importantly with overall quality. It’s got the name but they’re losing the quality in food. It’s a forever no from me. There’s many better cafes that can serve you much better curries closer to the real Indian taste, in Manchester. So no point wasting your tenner here.

lovely tasting food but i was given very tiny portions when i mean tiny i honestly mean tiny. they now serve in small sized containers hence it looks overflowing but is not. charged the same price but i was not happy. guess being gujarati you not gonna get lots its more filled with masala an couple pieces of meat but the meat given is tiny and doesn’t justify the price. im trying to be completely honest with you- if the portions were reasonable then its lovely but what i got today i was very saddened- covid-19 and brexit so they’re extortionate but i went as hadnt be back there in over a year due to lockdown

It is not far short of 40 years we have been visiting this wonderful little café and it’s always maintains very high standards. It can be a little bit difficult to find but do you make the effort. It is a friendly place that has an awful lot going for. Two of us chosen from the delicious varied dishes on offer. Three curries and rice each plus a portion of their amazing kebabs came to £14. This is great value as they are big portions and can be in enhanced with chilies, coriander or ginger from the counter. Does get busy but the queue goes down quickly and you can always find a seat on the benches. They sell drinks but water is free of charge.

We are no strangers to Indian cafe type restaurants & this one did not disappoint! It’s basic, nothing special but the food is bang on home cooked Indian food & the prices are incredibly good value. Love the concept of Rice & 3 we opted for two veggie & one meat dish each. The bill, with one can of coke came to £11.00 Husband was delighted! 😆

My friend and I went yesterday for my birthday lunch. First I have to say it’s a small place down a side street, but it is well worth a visit. It’s not a place you would spend a long time there, but it’s was great. All the staff were amazing. Everyday they offer different food. They have a great special. You can pick 3 different curries and rice for £5. There are lots of other stuff you can buy separately. If you want a quick lunch, you really must try it. Enjoy. Me

I went here with some work colleagues for lunch and was my first time. Firstly it does seem dodgy to getting to this place with the alleys, but once you get in it reminded me of a canteen. The kitchen on one side and then rows of tables and benches. The menu has different curries every day and they even do 3 curries with rice, where you choose which 3 curries you want. The service is quick, reasonably priced and efficient. You can get extras like chaptis, samosas etc. if you wanted them. Then you sit on one of the row of tables with a bench seat. There is complimentary water for you. The food was very tasty and having the 3 different curries was a great variety of flavours. So if you crave for a curry and rice with no nonsense, this is the place to go to. Just remember they only take cash.

A few of us called in on a Thursday lunchtime and had an excellent meal as we always do. Choose three different curries and rice for £7 and you will be thrilled with the quantity and quality. The dishes change every day and there is a great variety, suitable for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian palates. Unusually, there were no jugs of water and glasses available as they always used to be. We were advised to buy water from the fridge in bottles, but the gentleman eventually gave us some free. I think it is a requirement in the UK that this should be the case upon request. it is a busy place and you can’t book but somehow we always seem to get a table. No wonder it is popular as the food is great and good value.

Visited This & That after many years. Got a lamb nihari, keema, chick pea curry & chicken tikka between us when we ordered a couple of rice & threes. There wasn't actually alot of veg options if you didn't want potatoes or chickpeas as the spinach was cooked with lamb. Prices on the menu board were not updated so the all meat plate came to £8.50 & the 2 meats & 1 veg came to £7.50 which was pricey for the portion & quality. There wasn't any coriander as garnish on the side but there were ginger, onions & chillies. The food was lukewarm to cold which was disappointing considering it was just open for lunch. The lamb nihari wasn't as spicy as expected & we only got about 3 miserable pieces of lamb each. Keema was way too sweet. The chicken tikka & chickpeas were unremarkable. The garnishes certainly enhanced the flavours of the lacklustre curries so I wish we had put more on! It was really busy when we went so it's clearly a popular place but we are unsure why based on the food we had.

Don't be put off by the façade, internal décor or the fact that it's located in a tiny backstreet. The food here is really good and amazing value. The bhajis and samosas are big and the breads are cooked to order. All the curries I've tried - chicken dishes and all the veggie options are lovely, who knew CABBAGE curry could taste so good? There's always a warm welcome too!

I went here on a recommendation, I was told (warned) it was very underwhelming, I know someone who works with food standards and this very small back street Indian cafe consistently scores 5/5 on the hygiene council score, unfortunately they are only 4/5 at the moment because they need to update the menu with the allergens, it’s difficult for small businesses with very complex flavours in their food. Most people who pack the small café daily have “rice and three” the restaurant cooks several main curries daily and with meat and vegetable options, and you pay one price and have rice with three curries, you can have just one and sides with your food if you wish, I chose the lamb and carrot, the chicken curry and the keema curry (mince meat) two were a bit spicy the chicken curry was the mildest, they are trays of onion chutney, coriander and chopped chilli at the serving counter to add extra spice or flavour, not licensed so just soft drinks are available, and this is certainly not the type of place you need to dress up for, but the food was great, fantastic portion size, great value. Quite a unique cafe, but I’m glad i can say I’ve done it.

The cafe was dirty, mess all over the floor, tables had dirty plates on, staff behind counter wearing very dirty uniform…. the place didn’t look very hygienic. The man serving food behind the counter was very scary and could be heard for miles shouting ‘what else’ at the top of his voice. The food was cheap but not very good quality. The rice was very salty and the sauces were a bit bland. Over all - rubbish.
