For a coffee, apero, lunch or evening meal a nice place to frequent. My wife and I have gone here on numerous occasions over the last 9 years and have always enjoyed our experience.

Saturday lunch time on october with 3 friends. Location perfect, serving good, lamb good and well cooked, chicken rooster delicios and well done. Beef steak awful and hard like hourse shoe. Do not order beef there. Dessert chocolate its served whithout ice cream. Toilet only one whithout looking system .... like many other locations in this Valey.

We have previously had a coffee here earlier in the week and thought we would give it a go one evening as we could sit outside with our dog. We chose from the set menu, my wife had the chicken cooked in wine (Chinon) and I had the lamb shank. It was passable but not much more.

Very friendly staff, pretty good staple French food and reasonable prices. Good balanced wine selections as well and again no over the top prices. Overall a good eating experience for us.

Arrived in Chinon after a long drive so we were very hungry. This place did not disappoint. We had goat's cheese salad to begin, then coq au vin followed by a delicious chocolate fondant. Service came with a smile and wine to accompany the food was lovely.

This has become an annual treat for us, spending time in Chinon and enjoying the hospitality offered at A La Pause Rabelaisienne. In addition to leisurely coffees in the morning, we ate here on two occasions and enjoyed dishes from the prix fixe menu as well as from the a la carte selection. The food was always excellent and good... More

After visiting the Fortress my wife and I stopped here for coffee and tea. A great place to relax and the service was very good. Nice view of the market square from our table outside..

We were looking for a quick lunch before heading to the vineyards. To quote my wife, "that was possibly the best Croque Madame I've had this holiday" and she loves Corque Monsieur/Madame.

Having got wet at the Forteresse we sought a refuge. Our chosen restaurants were full or they were no longer serving. A La Pause was open and welcoming. The food was simple enough and reasonable priced and the service friendly enough but it didn't leave a strong impression, either way. If you find yourself in the centre of Chinon looking... More

We has a quiet dinner for two in a small cafe on the corner of the Place du general de Gaulle. The menu was short but had a good range of choices as did the wine list and the maître d'hôtel was very helpful.

Thank Julie M
