We just hopped off our sightseeing bus on the way back to our apartment located on L'Ile Saint Louis, looked at the menu posted on the door and decided to give it a try without consulting TA. Sometimes you just have good luck without proper research. It was noon and there were about four customers. We started to take a... More

Had my first lunch in Paris here, what a great little find. Full of locals. Authentic menu. Not touristy at all. Waitress was attentive, well, as attentive as french waiters are. She took our order, laid the table. Service was efficient. I just had a simple omlette, it was perfect. Cooked just right. Coffee was good. Best of all, the... More

L'Escale is located on Ile Saint Louis at the corner of rue des Deux Ponts and quay d'Orleans. It overlooks the river and with full length south facing windows is nice and bright. I like it for a coffee when I stay on the island and is my next choice after the nearby Louis IX when it is closed on... More

Once you are tired of tourists this is a nice spot to sit with locals and have a basic meal. The lamb was super! Nice service.

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighbourhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
