Seems like a cool, old school French restaurant though that is about all that is positive to say about Lipp. Service was terrible - living up to the worst French stereotypes. Food was decidedly mediocre - undercooked steak, bland fries, poorly shucked oysters, etc. had high hopes of a traditional brassiere, though instead left disappointed that this was our final... Visited Lipp tonight with my family. Our one time favorite Paris brassiere has taken a terrible turn for the worse. Steak tartare was fine and the salmon caviar ok, but served with a large, cold blini. Dinner was actually terrible. Choucroute Garni was actually completely flavorless. The once wonderful Roast Chicken was soggy and a plate of sat and brown... More

It is sometimes a good idea to go early for dinner in a popular restaurant. This local Brasserie which is very popular with locals gets very busy by 9 pm so we went at 7.30pm. Excellent service and a lot of staff who have been here a long time. All very smooth and the food was excellent. We had the... More

Make no mistake. This is a historic place an therefore full of tourists. However, the interior is beautiful an well worth seeing. I had a dish of veal kidneys which was very good. The chef could do something more on the presentation/accompainment. Service was very good for such a turisty place. Recommended.

To start, I was a bit apprehensive walking in to the Brasserie Lipp, considering its historic standing among the old school greats. I wasn't certain if I'd have the "chops" to pull this off. But everyone from the doorman to the wait staff were more than courteous and even "fun" to joke around with, from start to finish. I decided... More

The food is delicious and plentiful here, as is the wine. The service? Old school arrogance, something we have not encountered before in our trips to Paris. Don't let that stop you from going: it is an experience. And the food is really good.

A very typical brasserie in the heart of Paris which has been there for years. It seems its always packed even mid-week in January, so booking in advance would be advisable. The food is okay, but I think its more of a place to be seen or experience than anything else. Expect to pay around 60 euro per head including... More

Still one of the best restaurants in Paris. It is not just beautifully decorated but the food and the service are excellent. We also like the fact that your are able to eat there in the early afternoon. If you like authentic French food which is not only good but also very reasonably priced Brasserie Lipp is a save bet.

Very classic French food - nothing especially tasty or original or nicely served. Just food like eating in a very simple restaurant but the prices - very high.

One of the best meals I had on my last visit to Paris. If you want to try true french cuisine, this is one of the best places. I especially recommend the Boeuf Tartare, the Filet with Bernaise Sauce, and the Ile Flotante for dessert. The wine we tried was also amazing. The service was very nice and helpful.I will... More

Staying in Saint-Germain-des-Pres

Neighbourhood Profile
Saint-Germain-des-Pres
In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is dotted with famed terraced cafés, haut-couture shops, ivy-covered railings and fine-dining restaurants. Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine art school and small museums hide in unassuming squares. The neighbourhood’s namesake church is the oldest in Paris and is the backdrop for talented musicians every weekend. The Luxembourg Gardens house the national senate, splendid lawns and flourishing flower beds. Famous faces and bourgeois Parisians frequent Saint Germain accompanied by the students of Rue Saint Guillaume and Rue des Saints-Pères. This is a neighbourhood where afternoon people-watching from a café or playing cards in a brasserie are a key part of the daily fabric.
