Good quality food served in typical French Brasserie offhand style which can be endearing if taken in right way. We had sauerkraut which was perfectly balanced. My daughter had nicely cooked sole.

Find the most miserable waiters in Paris, add some mediocre food and you have Brasserie Lipp. Despite going with friends who spoke perfect French the staff here simply mumble and are utterly unhelpful. The food is as much of a joke as the prices with tough steaks and greasy fries for €24 all presented with less care than a fast... More

If you are in the Left bank you simply have to dine or at least take a drink at this Brasserie. Otherwise why are you over there? Become a Parisian, at least for a short while.

Delicious food in warm atmosphere. Friendly and helpful staff. Server spoke English and was helpful with menu selections. Typical French brassiere.

We had the daily specials and the food was so terrible, I could not eat it. For 22.50 euros an entree I expected a lot more than being served cold bread, a tough chewy piece of beef coated with pepper and fries, and a duck leg that seem like it was reheated at least 3 times. Our food arrived within... More

As they say, "if you want to experience and dine like the locals". This is where to go. Now typically a Parisian French Brasserie. The menu also offers cuisine from Alsace, Strasbourg, and other parts of France. Hosts and service fantastic and again, if you speak a bit of French it shows respect and you'll get it back as well.... More

With an abundance of choices for dining while in Paris... we loved the Lipp so much we went twice for dinner in our 6 night stay! It was my first time in Paris and I was completely intimated by the atmosphere of this place at first. I don't speak much French but my fiancé does (PHEW!) so I let him... More

If you are looking for a typical, classical brasserie - go there. Staff is dressed in traditional black and white, food is good (you don't get sodas here), and the atmosphere is typically a little crowded.

We walked in at 9:45 on a Tuesday and were graciously greeted by the Manager who seated us in the front window, where our waiter moved us to a better table so we could sit side by side (something he did not have to do). The menu is French, which seemed a challenge at first but we overcame it (how many... More

Staying in Saint-Germain-des-Pres

Neighbourhood Profile
In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is dotted with famed terraced cafés, haut-couture shops, ivy-covered railings and fine-dining restaurants. Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine art school and small museums hide in unassuming squares. The neighbourhood’s namesake church is the oldest in Paris and is the backdrop for talented musicians every weekend. The Luxembourg Gardens house the national senate, splendid lawns and flourishing flower beds. Famous faces and bourgeois Parisians frequent Saint Germain accompanied by the students of Rue Saint Guillaume and Rue des Saints-Pères. This is a neighbourhood where afternoon people-watching from a café or playing cards in a brasserie are a key part of the daily fabric.
