This was one of the best dinners we had in Paris. We did not have reservations and the Host said they had one table left so we took it. We were the first table in the next 20 minutes every table was filled and people were starting to line up outside. Their onion soup is one of the best I... More

We visited based on Trip Advisor reports and because of what we read, chose the French onion soup. It was undoubtedly delicious and worth having to wait for our table despite having booked. The restaurant is tiny, but incredibly popular. They don't take Internet bookings so beware if, like us, you think you have booked over the web - fortunately... More

My partner and I stopped into this place following a quick google search for 'best onion soup in Paris', and we're very glad we did. Unsurprisingly we ordered a French Onion Soup each and a dish consisting of sausages, potatoes and grilled cheese. I'd go as far as to say the soup actually made me happy! Sounds dramatic but it's... Fun little place we ate on our first night in Paris. We had no reservations and were seated within minutes. Typical of many bistros and brasseries in Paris, seating is tight. It didn't bother me much, but for people used to spreading out, this is not common in most restaurants in Paris. Food was typical French fare, but well done... More

Turned up out of the blue based on a friends recommendation. had to wait an hour for a table, but that wasn't too bad since there are plenty of bars around to people-watch at! Lovely authentic traditional French cuisine - the fact they had cassoulet on the menu made my day! Very reasonably priced, great atmosphere and excellent food -... More

I've been in Paris for the past few days and we didn't really have a plan when it came to food... We normally walked and stopped somewhere that looked good. However, one night we were advised by our concierge to visit La Jacobine for dinner... And I'm soo glad we did! The food was amazing, service was excellent and overall,... More

Worth the wait - the place was completely full and we had to wait for ten minutes to be seated - plus it took a while to get the food etc, but good food and great atmosphere!

This was the first and only time I have ever had to wait for a table in Paris; we turned up just after 8 and there were already people sitting outside the restaurant waiting. We put our names down for a table at 9 and decided to go for a drinks in the meantime, however it was still a bit... More

The best service in the city our waiter recommended the best wine pairing for our food. I had the duck and my wife had a seafood plate, the French onion soup was the best onion soup we had in Paris.

I sought out La Jacobine last July, but it was closed--I thought for good. I was thrilled to find it open when we sought out dinner our first night in Paris this spring. They serve wonderful traditional French good--including marvelous Cheesecake!!

Staying in Odeon / Saint-Michel

Neighbourhood Profile
Odeon / Saint-Michel
As the bustling center of entertainment for the residents of the Rive Gauche, the activity at Odéon never stops. Boulevards are lined with traditional cafes, restaurants, and boutique cinemas. The streets surrounding the fountain at Saint-Michel provide eateries from around the world. Lively bars are just next door and the prototypical terraced French brasserie is on every corner. The setting for this area is second to none; the Haussmann-style boulevards are contrasted by monumental architecture and overshadowed by the iconic Notre Dame, all within a moment’s walk from the Seine. This neighbourhood's world-famous bookshops, cafés, and streets will not fail to impress you.
