Really enjoyed the aligot and truffade here, however not being a big meat eater there wasn't much choice to accompany it. They didn't even have any vegetables (to meet veg and potatoes in any form goes well), only salads. Dessert and drinks were good though and so was the decor/ambiance although it does get very busy. For meat lovers and... More

A cold, rainy night in Paris. The perfect weather for Le Plomb du Cantal. It's a warm & welcoming restaurant for the hungry & the cold! I've tried most of their proteins (sausage, duck breast, duck confit, steak) and they're all large tasty portions. However, the star is always the aligot (creamy mashed potatoes with cheese & garlic) which come... More

The combination of the entrecôte and potato in any form of preparation is amazing. It can be french fries, truffade or aligot.

Went to this restaurant and its sister in Rue de Maine (same menu) several times over the summer. They serve the food of the Auvergne region of France. I had heard of aligot before (mash with lashings of tomme cheese and garlic) and indeed that is excellent here but I was unaware of truffade which is saute potatoes with lashings... More

For the past 20 years I have been calling regularly to this vibrant, family-run restaurant and last week , once again , it was exactly the same wonderful experience....an instantly warm and attentive welcome, an extravagant menu full of "rarely seen elsewhere" specialties from the Cantal region (Centre France) and of course quality dishes served exactly as it should be... I have been here a number of times and I have never been disappointed - the steak and magret de canard is very good but the best thing is the potato! Cheesy and garlic-y you can choose either truffade (bit of potato) or aligot (smooth mashed potato). Definitely recommend visiting!

Travelling with preteen aren't easy. For us the adults, we were ll about tasting and experiencing French cuisine at its best city for culinary adventure. For them, it was about having both, their adults happy and good and strong wifi. I can feel some readers eye rolling gesture now :) But our waiter, young, yet gracious and understanding, he catered... More

After watching aligot Instagram videos I had to come here and try it. It did not disappoint. There's enough to share between two people. The staff are really nice. They give you free bread. Would definitely eat here again.

This street buzzes.. There are 3 theatres and about 15 restaurant/bars in the 200 metres of street. Le Plomb looks "Parisienne" and is. Generally filled with locals and an occasional tourist. This is not michelin hat stuff but good hearty country style food of hearty proportions. The speciality seems to be the potato which accompanies each meal which is done... More

Staying in Montparnasse

Neighbourhood Profile
Montparnasse
The namesake tower of Montparnasse dominates over the landscape but the fun part is the throbbing life that goes on below it. Bright lights, busy cinemas, brasseries and diners encompass hidden museums and parks to entertain the masses. Long avenues lead away from the tower to take you to unsuspecting places and historical monuments and treasures. In between lie adorable ivy-covered houses with beams and small gardens to match. Just a short metro ride away from the centre of Paris this neighbourhood has something for every hour of the day.
