Food was good, fresh wholesome bread and nice cakes; English speaking service is probably what made this place popular among "expats", or perhaps the fact that it is different from most other coffee/brunch places you will find in Paris, however I don't think the price makes it justice, service was attentive but not particularly "warm", rather overpriced for what it... Passing by this famous spot in Paris late afternoon we discovered it has just reopened after a big summer renovation. The old take away and cramped front counter is gone - replaced with a totally new take away store next door and an amazing gourmet grocery and organic fruit & veg store (with English cheese room!) across the road! Now,... More

The only reason this place is not out of business is probably because of it's great location at the bustling Rue des Martyres. It's a mystery to me how such a small place with so few tables and so many waitresses could yield such a bad eating experience and have such low service standards. We were seated and forgotten about... More

Sublime casual (very well designed) eatery-very conveniently located in Le Bon Marche. The desserts are amazing and so is the food. The place has this Ottolenghi vibe but it tastes better. Service was very friendly. I did not find it pricy for the quality of food and the convenience of location. I was in Paris for 3 days and I... More

Fresh savory dishes (though by no means exceptional - think decent salad bar) and excellent English style pastries (top notch carrot cake). But the prices are ABSURD and completely unjustified. The service is hit or miss but more often miss since they can't seem to be able to train and hold on to any staff for very long. The only... More

Just had the worst midday experience of my life here. AVOID at all cost !!! Never in 6 years of living in Paris have I had such bad customer service. The old lady at the front counter was aggressive, condescending and obnoxious. When I happened to say that I thought it ridiculous that customers had to repeat everything they had... More

Inside Bon Marche, the best shopping in Paris, Rose Bakery is an amazing option for a light snack or tea afternoon with girlfriends and family. Delicious desserts, try the banana cake and the apple crumble and many marvelous options seasonally chosen. Love it.

Perhaps I caught them on a bay day, but I almost got the impression that except for the price) this place was "trying too hard" to appear as if they are not trying, at all. The food was good - not great. The service ranks up there with some of the most inattentive and disinterested I have experienced in Paris.... More

Our Saturday lunchtime visit was not a pleasant one. Staff was friendly enough (I live in Paris and am fully accustomed to the typical service) but very inattentive and forgot two things that we asked for. The food was the best part (very good quiche and lemon cake) however, it cannot make up for the lack of attention to the... More

Staying in Opera / Bourse

Neighbourhood Profile
Opera / Bourse
The neighbourhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades, and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here, modern day workers continue to take advantage of the legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theatres, and cinemas sit side by side with French bistros predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in another. The area is most famous for the Palais Garnier opera house and glamorous department stores.
