Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I run a boutique small-group tour of Romania, and want my people to get a more complete picture of the country than faded stereotypes (or Bucharest). After lunch at Mesendorf 65, the rest of the tour was bonus. Delicious, healthy, farm-to-table food made my generous, hospitable, deeply likable people in a beautiful, fun, and genuine setting? Can I copy & paste them everywhere I want people to love? Recommending this place is one of the easiest things I've ever done, and I can't wait to bring another small group next August. Multumesc mult Oana and Adi!!

Reading other reviews I am happy to see the owners have received praise all around. Quite right, it is creatively prepared with fresh local ingredients. We had an all vegetarian meal, so you should ask ahead of your visit if you have special needs. Oana and Adi were assisted with Anna who baked the plum tart. As the French say, vaut le voyage.

Although it was the first time we’ve met the owners, it was like we were seeing good old friends. We look forward to seeing them again soon, and as often as possible at Mesendorf 65.

Incredible evening! One of the absolute highlights of our 8 days in Romania. Superb home cooked food using fresh ingredients. Original menu tailored to our needs. Exclusive dinning experience in a cleverly modernised barn in a quiet Saxon village. Extremely friendly and welcoming hosts. Thank you for a highly memorable evening. Very highly recommended - essential to book, worth factoring into your trip planning.

Mesendorf 65 is where food is as authentic as it can be. Authentic because all ingredients come from their garden or the surrounding area and because you can see all the effort that Oana puts in every plate. Needless to say that all dishes we’ve tried taste amazing with the hay ice cream standing out in terms of originality. Food is served in their nicely decorated barn. As the restaurant is a local gastropoint, a reservation is needed as they cook for the people they are expecting and all food is slow cooked. All in all a great experience and a new standard on how traditional Romanian food should be prepared and served!

Mesendorf65 is not just an amazing restaurant (in which you can also enjoy and buy fantastic homemade cheese), it is a real experience! You eat in the cozy barn or in the picturesque garden with the lovely owners Oana and Adi, who do everything they do with heart and passion. Most of the delicious dishes are based on grandma's recipes, made from fresh ingredients from the garden and the surrounding villages. This restaurant is a must (!) and one more reason to visit the idyllic village Mesendorf. Can‘t wait to visit you again, Oana and Adi. Good luck to you and all the best!

I had heard and read about them some time ago but didn't have the luck to experience a meal or meet them just by passing by in the area. This time, with a reservation, we finally got to try their gorgeous artisanal cheese varieties served with nuts, dried fruit and truffle butter, a very tasty local cumin soup accompanied by homemade bread with sun-dried tomatoes and herbs, an amazing milk and butter cake I still fantasise about and an equally tasty homemade sour cherry liquor. Everything was absolutely exceptional and such a lovely experience, I just can't wait to be back there as soon as it will be possible. Oana and Adi are great people, very open and friendly and without a doubt, very passionate about what they do and about things done well - starting with their gorgeous food, their welcoming nature, the place and its decor and every little detail in the barn and the surrounding garden. Another highlight I personally enjoyed during our visit was the big bookshelf wall in the barn, with lots of interesting books and magazines including interesting gastronomy titles and abstract art albums. Thank you Oana & Adi, all the best wishes again and we just can't wait to be back there in summer to try the famous hay ice cream and blackcurrant crumble.

I fully agree with a review below that Tripadvisor does not have enough stars to rate this amazing place. Perfection is the key word to describe the food served, the atmoshpere, the place itself and the overall experience offered by the owners. It is not a regular restaurant or pub, it is a warm, feeling like family type of location, Oana and Adi are so friendly and pasionate about offering the best experience to their visitors. Highly highly recommend!

Well, Tripadvisor doesn’t have enough stars to help me express how much I like this place. The most genuine people, honest local food, authentic experience and a bike trail to make you wanna move here. Adrian’s cheese is only surpassed by Oana’s exquisite local cooking with bold flavors! Not worth a stop...worth a trip! (The beer and humor are nice too)

Masendorf 65 it’s about two passionate, dedicated and friendly people, Oana and Adi. It’s an gastronomic point , not a restaurant so prior reservation is needed. You’ll recieive a well conceived menu made from local ingrediants, such as hay ice cream made with buffalo milk. At the end of the meal we had matured cheese in their basement and an homemade digestif drink. The food is served in a haylof that was restored in an inovative way. Thank you!

We did not know about this place, until we passed by with our mountainbikes. Unfortunately we had no reservation, so we couldn´t stay and enjoy the local food. But the place looked very nice and the owner helped us to find a place to put up our tent in the next village.

My family and I are so glad that our hostess in the town of Crit advised us to try this place out. It is a gem and the drive there is beautiful. The hosts are also so incredible. I highly suggest you take time to share with them your story and ask them a little about how they stumbled upon their house. As for the food, it is so delicious! It is truly farm to table. You’ll leave stuffed and satisfied...looking forward to the day you can go back. Ultimately, trust me...this place will be worth it! Just make sure you call a reservation a couple days in advance. They don’t have a big eating area so you’d likely be politely turned away if you don’t call ahead.

Mesendorf 65 is an amazing place to be if you want to understand rural Transylvania and Saxon villages from a culinary point of view. It is not a restaurant, it is a local gastronomic point aiming at promoting rural Transylvanian tourism and regional gastronomy, as part of cultural heritage. Prior reservations are required well in advance, as Oana and Adi really want to focus on their guests and not rush anything. They don’t just serve food, they want to get to know their quests, and definitely once you meet them, you will surely want to get to know them and their story. Food is tasty and traditional, and you can trace every ingredient in their back yard, neighbors yards, or in the hills, pastures and forests that surrounds this beautiful old village. Oana is a great and kind host that puts so much effort and heart into the food she is preparing and in discovering local recipes which she will tell you all about if you ask, and Adrian is a really funny and good hearted guy that is producing maturated cheese that rivals Swiss cheese. A great couple in a great place. Congratulations you guys for all the good work and ethic and thank you for the kind welcoming, chives maturated cheese and all of the other amazing dishes you served especially the pasture flower mix ice cream:)))

mesendorf 65 is not just about the passion for the local ingredients carefully chosen by oana or about the cheese left to mature under the strict supervision of adi. mesendorf 65 experience is a perfect combination between food cooked with love and care for all those who walk through adi's and oana’s door. a place not to be missed when in transylvania. prior reservation is required.
