My wife and i have eaten at Le Tire Bouchon a couple of times over the years, and we have always been very happy with the experience. Last Monday was the same. It is a small restaurant. We were greeted by a young woman who...was also the server. She was very pleasant, professional and helpful. She asked us what language we preferred and once we said French she happily spoke only French with us even when we got into the details of the preparation of the various dishes. The menu is fairly limited but the choices covered a lot of territory. There were three vegetarian choices, three fish choices and three meat choices. All nine choices came in entrée (starter) and plat (main course) sizes. If you wanted both a starter and a main course, there were lots of great possible combinations. We each had a starter and a main course. My wife had the soup (pumpkin, sautéd red peppers, croutons, and a foam with cheese). It was wonderful. I had the perfect winter egg which is a baked egg with blended parsnip, a little curry and nuts. It too was fantastic, and a new taste for me. For main courses, my wife had the cod which was served in bouillon with root vegetables. It was very good although the cod was overwhelmed by the bouillon. I had the scallops served with a rémolade of celery and radishes and a wonderful oil of raspberry and green apple vinegar. The scallops were perfectly cook and each of the parts of the dish complimented the other parts. We had a 50cl bottle of a very nice Côte de Provence white wine. We skipped dessert. The entire meal with tip was 90 euros. The food, the ambiance, the service, all combined for a wonderful experience.More

I was here with a friend recently, as it’s one of her favourite haunts to dine at in the old town. The three-course “Market Menu” is only €42 per person. For our respective starters, which were vibrantly presented and plated, we had: 1)Open ravioli with...“sautéed mushrooms of the moment” and “trumpet of death” mushrooms (well, those who believe in eternity after physical death need not fear!), which were browned in yummy parsley butter, fried onion cream and pearl onions. The ravioli was only a thin sheet over the mushrooms like a little blanket, sans cheese. I liked the dish. My friend’s “autumn perfect egg” came with caramelised popcorn and crispy rice. The dish was a daring attempt at being creative, but frankly, it was a bit too sweet and really rather strange to be paired with eggs. It was a visual stunner though! For our mains, I (predictably) chose the beef that was cooked at a low temperature, and served with green bean cream, toast, candied garlic purée and red wine juice. Yum! And it was also visually appealing. My friend’s main dish was the half cooked tuna breaded with panko, haddock cream, spicy salami, seaweed salad and pickles. She liked it a lot. It was also visually vibrant. For dessert, instead of “the blackcurrant” with the “blackcurrant siphon” which wasn’t available, passion fruit was served with a scoop of yoghurt ice cream, a plain crumble and a creamy meringue. The second dessert was the clafoutis with Muscat grapes. While the clafoutis was nice, my experience was marred by the fact that the grapes were not seedless. I don’t eat grape seeds. We had a bottle of Château La Tour St Honoré rosé, and of course, sparkling water to ensure we weren’t parched. The waitress was very sweet. She let us practise French with her. Sometimes when it got a bit tough, she explained things in English. Lol. We rounded off the bill with a small tip, so it was €60 per person. All in all, it was a lovely lunch in a cosy little place. Go check it out.More

We found this restaurant by chance. We hadn’t reserved and were lucky they had a spare table on Sunday night. The food and service was amazing and would highly recommend it if you’re ever nearby. Will definitely visit again!

This was the best dinner of our holiday. We had eaten here before about ten years ago and had loved the restaurant then. Had it changed? The decor certainly had - gone was the black and red fairy lit extravaganza and now it was all...neutrals and mirrors. Less theatrical and much calmer! The food was imaginative, beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The chicken and mushroom dish was the star for me. You can choose between small or large plates or take the well priced Market Menu. The staff were friendly and incredibly hard working. The only oddity was that on booking a 30 euro deposit is taken . This was returned two days after eating. Booking did seem essential even this late in the season. An excellent little restaurant in the heart of the old town - not to be missed!More

Situated in the old town of Nice, we were lucky to get a table outside. We had a wonderful time, not only because the weather mid September was perfect to dine outside, but the dishes were to die for. The plates are created with style...and finesse, pairing perfect tastes and textures. From "the perfect egg" to the tuna, the slow cooked beef, the clavoutis and black currant, everything surprised us and we had a smile on our faces all the night through. Staff is friendly and swift, and the kitchen team works hard to please all the guests. I would certainly visit again, and recommend this place to everybody who appreciates attention to detail.More

Firstly DO NOT confuse this Restaurant with the similarly named restaurant LE BOUCHON which is also in Nice. This place is in a lovely narrow street in the Old Town with tables for outside dining as well as inside if weather not so good. We...had seen this restaurant earlier in the day and really liked the look of the menu. We returned in the evening and although we had not booked we were told that a table would be available if we were prepared to wait around 30 minutes. All ok so far. However, although some tempting choices as First Courses, we decided to go for two Main Courses with a view to having Dessert. We noticed that other tables were provided with a basket of Bread, however we got none unless this was only to accompany First Courses ? When our Main Courses arrived, we thought we had ordered the smaller version of these dishes as a Starter ! Whilst both dishes were really tasty, the major disappointment was how small the portions were. We have been to many ‘Fine Dining’ Restaurants (this place is not one of them) and we know what to expect in regards to portion sizes of various courses. Suffice to say we did not stay for Dessert - in fact we both had another meal later in the evening as we were both still hungry.More

Very small menu - 3 vegetarian, 3 meat, 3 fish and 3 desserts Chose the 45E menu so I could try a range of food across the menu - 1 veg starter, 2 mains, 1 dessert Everything was beautifully prepared and delicious to boot Exactly...the sort of restaurant I love - small plates, trying something different with every course, for a very affordable price Cant recommend this restaurant highly enough, as perfect a meal as Ive ever had for the priceMore

We experienced appalling treatment. "Rude" does not do it justice. We were waved off brusquely by a loud and arrogant waiter who first said we didn't have a reservation, and then claimed we had reserved for an earlier time and were too late. In fact,...we had arrived right on time for our reservation. I suspect he thought we were American tourists who would never return anyway and that the French people waiting without reservation for a table were more deserving. For my friends' sake, I didn't shout back and insist and we moved on. I live in Nice full time. I'll never return. There are plenty of good places where customers are warmly welcomed.More

Well, we booked a table for the next day and only when we arrived we discover that the table was in a very unpleasant location: a dark alley just behind the restaurant. This restaurant was amazing! It splits the menu into three - vegetarian, fish and meat dishes. Each can be ordered as a starter or a main (or you could order one of each as tapas). Every dish we got was delicious - especially the tuna!...It was reasonably priced too. Easily the best meal we had in Nice - would really recommend!More

We had a family meal here whilst on holiday in Nice. It's a small restaurant of about 40 covers and when we visited in high summer, service was only provided at the outdoor tables. We had booked well ahead and resisted efforts to seat us...at a table by the main door to the kitchen which contained inappropriate seating for half our party of 4, due to being mature adults who demand decent seats and position in any restaurant of quality. On the whole, the dishes were tasty and well presented, perhaps with the exception of the beef with gnocci, which was disappointingly uninspired. Our server was amicable and helpful, albeit slightly unconventional at times. The Market Menu at 42E is good value, the Degustation Menu at 45E even better value. Although the location on Rue de la Prefecture isn't scenic or exciting, it's a popular place and thus advance booking is essential.More
