Chose this place based on some reviews. This is the oldest Gasthaus in Germany and got some nice feedback. We went there and found the surroundings and the attending crowd somewhat outdated. The personnel itsself was very attentive. The food is traditional German. We had quite some german dishes in out holiday and this specific place did not convince.

We had our lovely lunch here last Wednesday and enjoyed the excellent food, the friendly service and the traditional setting of one of their dining rooms. The next time we will also stay in this guesthouse which appears to have been in business since Anno Domini 1120 !!!

Traditional German flavours with Italian influences served with a rare lightness. Polenta and roast vegetables; dumpling with chanterelles and fresh noodles with sage and cherry tomato compote all fantastic.

Recommended! A traditional German restaurant and some special dishes from Black forest areas. Antique decorated and exemplary services. Easy to find it, located in Alstadt.

Very plain and traditional interior, also very uncomfortable table and seats. If you are in a couple you have to share a big table (no small tables). Food was ok for a village pub. They have no idea how to age beef and how to do a nice cut for uniformly cooked steaks. A garniture of broccoli turned into a... More

We ate there tonight and enjoyed a very good meal. I had ravioli and prawns in an incredible sauce, and my husband had veal, pork, and beef medallions with pasta. Our waiter also brought us an appetizer and glass of wine - gratis. Our service was superb - the meal and atmosphere were very upscale - but medium priced. We... More

This spacious and welcoming hotel-restaurant is in the oldest part of town. The napery and tableware are elegant and the waiters are cheerful. We both chose asparagus with new potatoes, finely sliced hams and hollandaise sauce. We followed this with a dish of mixed red berries accompanied by a homemade walnut ice cream and a lemon cream. All this was... More

Three of us ate here on a busy Saturday night (a lot of other places were full and we had to wait outside with a beer while they found us a table!) and we had a very good time. We ate the set menu at just under 50 euros and it was all very nice indeed, being something different. Service... More

A beautiful restaurant in a very beautiful historic town. Excellent food. Excellent service. English and French speaking staff. At 12:30 we had a nice meal for 2 persons including drinks and coffee for 2 persons for 35 Euro all in.

It's always nice to eat in one of the oldest restaurants (if not the oldest) in Germany. The place has always been plain inside, so it is short on charm. The maitre d' was very courteous and knowledgeable. Good service. Unfortunately, the food was just good, if not so-so, nothing fancy, just like the room where we ate. Trout for... More
