Had lunch in this restaurant under the railway arches near the Hackesher Markt escaping the howling wind into cozy, candlelit interior. Service was prompt and attentive, food was tasty - although our portion of currywurst was a bit small for its price, some chips in addition to the fresh breas would not have gone amiss.

Perfect place for a family sunday brunch. Food is good, location is great. The room is quite noisy but the atmosphere is nice though. Not the tourist trap I thought it was !

Looked like a fairly cool place - big and busy and trendy. We just had a hot wine which was nice and watched the world go by.

My wife and I visited this restaurant in October for lunch having decided it looked the most appetising in the area. We had sweetcorn soup to start which was one of the best dishes we've had on our trip and a main each which was also lovely. The staff were great and the beer good too. Free use of the... More

Very cosy and friendly restaurant/drink bar just by the river and museum inseln. Large terrace at the lawn. The restaurant itself is built in to the S-Bahn "bogen". The interior is nice and warm with wooden furniture, flowers and such. Pizza, pasta and more traditional German cuisine available. More for the lunch and between the dinner times snacks.

The Ampelmann has its own restaurant right by the River Spree in the Mitte district. Here, you can enjoy a cold beer while enjoying an amazing view of the Museum Island.  There’s one novelty I found so fascinating in Berlin is how they put out lounge chairs on the banks of the Spree for you to enjoy your pint of... It's our favorite place in the center of Berlin to have a big Sunday breakfast with a bottle of prosecco, or to meet friends for a salad, pizza and wine on a friday night. It's located in the heart of Mitte, just few steps away from the Museum island. Of course, if the weather conditions are ok, there's no reason... More

Description
The AMPELMANN Restaurant is located in Berlin Mitte (in the S-Bahn arches at Hackescher Markt).Located directly on the Spree you can take a relaxing break from the hustle and bustle and you can taste creative Berliner cuisine and international favorites here. Of course, there are also vegetarian and vegan dishes. At the AMPELMANN beach bar you can relax on comfortable deckchairs, with a delicious cocktail or a refreshing beer and enjoy the Berlin summer to the fullest with the unique view of the Spree and the Museum Island. Every Sunday and holiday, there is between 10 am - 2 pm a great brunch buffet. Due to popular demand we recommend a reservation for brunch. Children under 7 years eat for free, at the age of 7 - 12 years for 50 % (including an AMPELMANN gift) and they are allowed to bake under expert guidance their own pizza. The Ampelmännchen is one of the few things that survived the fall of the Wall in 1989. Meanwhile, the Ampelmann has become a Berlin ambassador. This was assured by the company AMPELMANN. In addition to the AMPELMANN Restaurant there is a café and six shops, where every visitor will find a piece of Berlin to take home with.

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
