Excellent breakfast place, moderately priced, freshly made. Top of the range is the fruhstuck himlissche, selection of rolls, scrambled eggs, cream cheese, smoked salmon, meats and jam, and coffee, all for 8 euros. Staff make an effort to help you, even if you don't speak German. Missing it already.

Great breakfast selection; good sitting; next to hotel & StadtMitte subway. Prime location in a rather quiet neighborhood.

We were staying a few minutes away on Krausenstrasse. Hotel was great, but as is the norm wanted to charge a fortune for breakfast. So we ventured out and found Thurmann. It looks a bit chainy - with rather dated pink signage, but was excellent - we had coffee + pastry + a pot of fruit for under 10 euros... More

On Our first morning in Berlin, we stopped to drop off our bags and needed to get a tea / coffee the receptionist told us about the cafe just down the road, so off we went. What a lovely cafe, we ordered coffee, tea and cakes, the cakes were most enjoyable. The cafe is popular, it was busy all the... More

This cafe was round the corner from our hotel. Great choice, we ate breakfast there every morning. Staff very friendly food freshand tasty and reasonably priced. If you are staying in the checkpoint Charlie area would definitely recommend eating breakfast here.

Like many Backerei on Friedrisch Strasse this one is also a good one. The quality of its baking is good and of particular importance are its tarts. Freshness can be seen in most of what they sell, although their variety is quiet standard. The seating is also nice and very suitable for families with kids.

We discovered Thurmann near our hotel, and went back there every morning for breakfast/brunch. The staff were friendly and they provide a great selection of freshly made savouries and rolls, plus cakes and hot food. Very popular with local people buying to take away, so the order queue can be busy, but we never had to wait long for service.... More

Neighbourhood Profile
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
