Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Perfect food. I had the steak, my wife had the seafood taster. Friendly service. Interesting place - the old ice room. Recommend.

We’ve been driving the NC 500……..we’ve stopped at many places along the way but this has been by far the best restaurant we’ve visited.Delicious, fresh and perfectly cooked….we had a mussel starter and scallops and shared a seafood taster with a side of broccoli tenders...team and finished with the crème brûlée.All excellent and a lovely couple , great service. Looks like nothing from the outside but magical and cosy inside.More

Blown away by this place. Managed to get a table without a booking for lunch midweek. Don’t be put off by the outside which very much resembles weathered harbour buildings, the restaurant inside is beautiful and has a lovely feel to it. Both my partner...and I said ‘wow’ out loud when we stepped in. Staff were great and happily chatted to us and answered our typically awkward questions about the menu! We both had beautifully fresh seafood starters and mains which were delicious - probably the best meal we ate while doing a seven day NC500 tour. The menu also had a map showing where each type of fish was sourced. We didn’t try the desserts but I had a cheeky dram of one of the local whiskeys to help me on my way! Considering the quality of food, definitely felt really good value.More

We were hoping for some simple fresh fish. Unfortunately there is was more meat than fish on the menu and the only fish dish that wasn't "spoilt by complicating it" was already sold out (perhaps no surprise). The service was perfunctory with no personal touch....The food we did have was OK but expensive and not what we were hoping forMore

I loved this restaurant! The food was excellent and the staff was accommodating and friendly. It’s a really special building right off the harbor, all stone inside with nautical touches. One of my favorite meals of our Scotland trip!

Had an amazing meal tonight. Friendly staff, great ambience. Can't wait too go back. We had the mussels, and beef to start, whole lobster and halibut and then panna cotta and sticky toffee to finish. Can't fault any course.

We went expecting some sort of basic seafood shack, but no, very pleasantly surprised to find this place is very good indeed. A lovely old stone building has been thoughtfully enhanced with clever lighting and simple decor to create a cosy, intimate atmosphere. Service is...very friendly and efficient. The menu, although seafood-led, has something for most tastes. The dishes themselves are seriously good, including desserts. The seafood platter really is truly excellent. Prices are sensible for the quality offered. These guys certainly know exactly what they're doing to create an all round success. The only adverse comment would be the inexplicably short wine list (4 whites, 3 reds) when it costs so little investment to hold a decent inventory that doesn't depreciate in value. All in all a really excellent little restaurant in an area that lacks much serious competition. They deserve great success.More

So starters of scallops for £14 comprised 2 scallops (not large of special) 3 pieces of chorizo, rocket leaves over a dash. Bread and basalmic for £1.50 each. Regular bread and butter again nothing special For main course £28 salmon and lobster linguine and my...wife had a fish curry. Tastes were pleasant but small portions for the price. I had expected so much more from the reviews and posts and was disappointed. OK but would not return at that priceMore

My wife and I had been trying to have dinner here for about 4 yrs, and finally managed to get there on a gorgeous sunny spring evening. We couldn't get here because of rhe extended waiting lists and covid, also our trips north were often...last minute things. Simply, the waiting was well worth it. The menu isn't extensive in comparison with more commercial venues, however the quality of the food served was exceptional. My hake.main course was divine. Predominantly seafood, however there were Sunday roasts available. Portion sizes were really good and service wasn't hurried. Waiting staff were very friendly and accommodated my wife's gluten intolerance with ease. Pricing was very competitive. We are both looking forward to our next visit.More

We are travelling the NC500 and this was recommended. Great food and great quality. Portion sizes large so unexpected, would definitely recommend. Not what you expect from the outside. Parking nearby but too small for a motorhome, we parked at The Weigh Inn having visited...there for lunch and walked down.More

Last night of a short trip. A meal to celebrate, scallops and turbot were both delicious. Comfortably full and no need for a dessert. Staff very nice and helpful and the decor very subtle.

The restaurant is under new management and as good as ever. A restaurant in the most unassuming place but with the most wonderful food and absolutely excellent service. Highly recommended and worth a detour.

Arrived for lunch with ex colleagues expecting the regular menu, however the restaurant was offering a special Greek week menu ! Wow! What a fabulous lunch… we had several of the small sharing plates - which were absolutely delicious!! Great advice from the friendly waitress...about how many portions would best suit us. We were too full for dessert but the chef accommodated our wish to finish with something sweet by offering us mini chocolate brownies with our coffee! So enjoyed by us all …. can’t wait to go back soon ! Thank you all at The Captain’s Galley!More
