We had the most amazing food here last night. My starter of Coquilles St Jacques was the best I’ve ever had & it’s always been a favourite of mine. The scallops were absolutely delicious & cooked to perfection…. Followed by a Tartiflette packed with flavour, which I’ve never had before & then a sublime chocolate fondant, also cooked to perfection, with scrumptious ice cream. My husband’s choices were all different to mine and he clearly enjoyed all of them & was full of praise which is rare ….. he even said it was very good value for money which is also rare! Only regret was that I was driving so was unable to sample anything from the wine list! Anita-Clare, the chef, came out to greet all the remaining guests when she’d finished her culinary expertise in the kitchen, which was a lovely touch! Only hope we’ll be able to get a table in the future …… thank you for the best meal we’ve had in a very long time!

We dined here on Saturday night for the delayed start to the Exmoor Food Fest. On arrival we were greeted by a very smiley and lovely lady who showed us to our table. We’d all ordered something different and couldn’t resist trying each others throughout the evening. Particular highlights were the Coquille St.Jacques, the lemon sole and the Apple Tarte Tatin. My husband had the Pork which he said was deliciously moist and juicy and the ham hock with the best Piccalilli he’s tasted. The other members of our party had Steak and throughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere was buzzing, the restaurant was full and everyone was chattering away and having a great time. Hats off to Chef Anita-Clare. We’ll definitely be back.

Where to start - from the quaint little entrance all beautifully lit by candlelight to the cosy ambiance to the amazing food and the staff. I love coming to see Anita and enjoying her food, I particularly enjoy that every time we come the menu changes and we can try something new but one of us always gets the steak frites and béarnaise sauce cause it is absolutely to die for. Yes this is your typical pub it’s far much more. I love looking up the menu in advance and being able to take my time to decide what we will have that’s part of the experience. It’s also fab that you can turn up between 7-8 and within 5 minutes your starters are there , no messing around with menus which also means no food waste. We never leave feeling hungry always pleasantly full. Thank you Anita for another fabulous evening ❤️

Our encounter with chef Anita-Clare who graced our kitchen was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment they stepped through the door, we knew we were in for an unforgettable dinning experience. With great pleasure, I extend my highest compliments to a chef whose culinary prowess is matched only by their remarkable ability to cater to our individual tastes and needs during our celebratory weekend.

This was our first visit to La Petite Bouchee and will certainly not be our last. On arrival we were warmly greeting by the young waitress, followed by the chef/patron who remembered we'd not long moved to the area. All our food was excellent, my steak was cooked perfectly (I like it rare) and was melt in the mouth. My husband loved his moules main his only regret being he didn't have any bread to mop up with but he managed with a spoon. All in all, it was a lovely evening with a relaxed intimate atmosphere - it's always a good sign when all the guests end the evening chatting.

Thank you so much for your very generous review. It was a pleasure to welcome you both. On the subject of bread. We always used to put bread on the tables each week and 90% of it was thrown away. This is the second bread comment in a matter of weeks so it might be worth revisiting. Thanks so much for the prompt. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Kindest A-C

Oh I just love this place! We went last night for a Bastille dinner. The food was spectacular, I had a vegetarian Wellington which was absolutely delicious, except it was enormous, covered nearly two thirds of the plate and I felt guilty leaving some. My husband had a steak which was perfectly cooked. This place has a fantastic atmosphere. Small but perfectly formed and buzzing with happy conversation. Thank you Anita Claire for another great meal and evening.

We ate here last night and the food was sensational. Amazing sized portions the coquille st jacques was the best I’d eaten and my chicken in mustard sensational my husband had the monk fish which tasted so light and cooked to perfection. We ate the incredibly delicious and sweet walnut tart followed by a cheese board like no other. The staff were super friends and Anita and welcomed us all she felt like an old friend even though we’d just met. This isn’t your usual restaurant this is Anitas restaurant and it’s oozes that. It’s unique and quirky and the food speaks for it self. Parking was easy and the witheridge square was quaint with a proper pub that we visted for a drink before.

what can i say but how happy were we to find this unbelievable gem of a restaurant. Cozy and vibrant a perfect blend.
food was top top drawer and the service impeccable but personal touches with a chat to the chef during and after the meal .
we loved it so much we've decided to take a mini detour / additional stopover to visit again.
if you live with an hour of La Petite Bouchee i would definitely try and visit once a month.!!!

A candle lit pathway leads you to this delightful rustic style small restaurant. Once seated and full of people chattering it acquired the ambience of a proper French bistro.
Service from Tom and a young lady was faultless and made a nice evening even nicer. So lovely to see young people enjoying working in hospitality.
Now for the food; it cannot be faulted. My starter of Onion Tart Tatin was absolutely delicious and it’s been a long time since I had a requested rare steak actually delivered rare - it was cooked too perfection!
Exceptionally good value at under £90 for 2 four course meals & drinks.
Highly recommend.
* As an aside it felt exceptionally Covid safe.

We are fortunate to live nearby to this treasure of a restaurant.
The restaurant sits at the rear of their house in the wonderful village of Witheridge. The room displays the numerous awards and accolades that have been awarded.
The room has a French cafe feel and the limited seating gives it an intimate atmosphere. It is a shame there is no background music, I understand that the cost of a license makes it prohibitive for a small enterprise.
The best bit. The food.
You have to pre-book from the selection for that month . This reduces food waste.
The meal was simply wonderful. We had the beef, it was brilliant. It just melted in the mouth and was full of flavour. Not surprising this locally sourced food has achieved so many awards.
It will be the nearest we get to Michelin quality meals. All this without paying a fortune.
Thank you Anita-Claire and the staff .

What can we say, La Petite Bouchee is a little piece of heaven. A proper frech eatery: no nonsense, no fuss and effective cooking.
Hidden in a corner, a row of candle lanterns indicate the entrance to the restaurant. On arrival, you are welcomed by their super friendly and helpful staff.
The decor is unpretentious and there is no music. There is a reason for that: you should keep your 5 senses focused on what you are served. The food is absolutely perfect, beautifully presented and full of flavour.
We had the trout and hummus as starters, which were amazing. The curry was also exceptional, as well as the cheese board (that quince cheese!!) and dessert.
But the star of the night was, withouth a doubt, the cassoulet. This is probably the best dish I have eaten in my whole life. Completely flawless. Everyone should eat Anita-Claire's cassoulet at least once in their lives. And to think that we almost missed it!
Simply sublime service, excellent food and wine.
Thank you for a wonderful time.

I have rarely sat in a restaurant and been surrounded by the sounds of appreciation coming from every corner. This happened on Saturday night at La Petite Bouchee - there were words like beautiful, delicious, stunning and gorgeous being thrown around - the table next to us were even ‘toasting’ their mussels they loved them so much.
This was not our first visit to this gorgeous little restaurant and certainly won’t be our last. I’m sure the food gets better every time.
As a vegan and a vegetarian, it is so nice not only to be catered for, but for the food to have as much love and care put in to it as any of the other food in the menu.
The menu changes on a monthly basis and this month I was treated to the most incredible vegan Faux Gras for starters, probably the best pate I have had anywhere. This was followed by the French style Mac and Cheese, which was accompanied by a glorious salad and La Petite Bouchée’s famous frites. I have to admit I’d been a bit naughty and over indulged on focaccia and olives when we first arrived, so I was not able to finish this rich, crispy and extremely cheesy dish, but no worries, it was boxed up to take home to enjoy later. Luckily I was allowed a taste of my husbands vegan main as well, a truly delicious aubergine dhal, again I’ve rarely tasted better. I may not have finished my main, but as always, I had the room for desert and what a desert. The Chocolate and hazelnut Ganache was simply sublime.
We are so lucky to have this award winning restaurant on our doorstep. From the moment you arrive you are made to feel so relaxed, at ease and safe, which is exactly what you want from an evening out, especially in these strange times. The front of house team are so welcoming, polite and helpful - nothing is too much trouble. Thank you all.
Already looking forward to our next visit.

Another fantastic meal at La Petite Bouchée. This is the second time we have visited, would visit more often, but just too far away. Anita and her staff excelled as usual, very attentive to all our requests. We started with the steak tartare, sublime, I followed with the sole, delicious, and my other half had the individual beef Wellington, which he said “was the best i have ever eaten”. Normandy Apple tart and créme brûlée to finish delicious. If you haven’t been to La Petite Bouchée before, you are truly missing out. Hope to visit again soon.

If your looking for excellent food and something a little different look no further, this restaurant hidden away in a tiny village offers a great experience. My wife and I ate there recently both having lobster cooked to perfection together with a salad that contained foraged herbs and leaves all beautifully presented. The salad dressing came in a jam jar, just one of the interesting and quirky things about this restaurant, but I won't tell you all its secrets I will let you find out for yourself.
