Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Booked a table late afternoon for that evening, and was no trouble. We ate in the bar as we had our dog with us. Very cosy bar area, with a lovely atmosphere. Staff were very friendly. Good selection of drinks, and a decent menu. I...had the burger - excellent. Nice touch was to bring some scraps of fresh lamb for our dog. Owner is very much a dog lover. A small mistake with the bill was quickly rectified, with good humour. An excellent evening out, with very comfortable surroundings. Would recommend.More

We both stayed and ate here. An elegant old building just off the main square, it was nicely busy on a Sunday evening and we had an excellent roast dinner. They have a wide range of local gins as well as beer. Our room was...clean and attractive; the loo and bathroom was across the landing and would have been shared, but the other room was empty. Breakfast was beautifully cooked and the staff were really friendly.More

While visiting family we stayed overnight at the Mitre which is in the centre of Witheridge. Room one, an en suite double at the back of the pub, was comfortable, colourful, and quiet. We had an evening meal and breakfast in the restaurant which is...separate from the bar area. Both meals were excellent.More

Fantastic Sunday lunch in relaxed, traditional pub. Great service from everyone. The host was incredibly good with our children who loved the old fashioned wooden puzzles. Food was top drawer, delicious and well presented. Lovely pub dogs.

The Mitre Inn is a warm and inviting pub in the style of a traditional English pub. Our waiter Seb was friendly and super helpful. Our two toy dogs were treated to lots of attention and settled down nicely while our family ate delicious pub...fayre. The bean chilli stood was tasty and when mentioned my lactose intolerance, Seb ensured I got non dairy cheese and mayo. There is all the usual carnivore food plus a vegan menu! The blueberry cobbler was yummy! My whole family really enjoyed their meals and we highly recommend the pub.More

I rarely write a review but the food I have had both times I have come to this pub is exceptional. Having eaten at a wide range of places this is one of the best I have been to. The small additional touches to the...food make such a difference clearly cooked by a very talented chef, and very reasonably priced too.More

We have visited here often and have always had great food however our last visit very disappointing. Ordered Beef Vindaloo . We were told it would be hot which we know of course ( it came from the waiter as a kind of warning) which...was slightly humiliating!!!!! The Vindaloo was extremely dry, so rice and curry almost inedible and no heat or even spicy at all!! We are wondering if you've changed your chef! Also ice-cream not fresh, Tasted like it had thawed and been re frozen several times. Christmas meal out with family!!!!!!More

My dog Bodhi and I stayed here at the end of this stage of The Two Moors Way walk. Barbara was incredible with sorting out gluten free and vegan food options for me, and the food was some of the best gluten free vegan food...I’ve ever had. Andy was great fun to chat to in the bar and made me feel very welcome. The room was good with great black out curtains for a good nights sleep, They provided blankets and a treat for Bodhi and really looked after us. A great stay!More

Visited here last night to be told it would be at least an hour before we could have a table. My wife and I were publicans for many years and NEVER EVER turned custom away. How times have changed. Not long ago the hospitality industry...were crying out to be helped by the government. Perhaps they have had too much help if they can afford to turn a disabled couple in their 70s away. Yes, we are disabled and struggled in despite there being no disabled access. Sorry Mr Landlord we WILL NOT BE BACKMore
