I dropped in a couple of times at El Machinero for a few tapas and drinks with family and friends during my recent visit to Santander. Our expectation was higher then the real quality. They can make more from the plates aan the restaurant it is to simple! Kind people not recommended by us.

We ate here as a family of four in August 2015. The food was very good, served hot from the kitchen. Service was friendly and patient even though our ability to speak Spanish was very poor. For us, coming from Cambridge, England, where prices are like London's, the price was good too for the food and the wine.

We went to el Machinero, (close to the ferry port), on a Saturday lunch time and asked for a table in the restaurant upstairs. Our Spanish is limited and the waitress, who had even more limited English, went out of her way to help us and to explain the menu. Nothing was too much trouble. This was by far the best food we had during our 2,5 weeks holiday in Spain!! We were searching for good fish and stumbled on this restaurant (which also serves meat).
