About
The Badger Hounds has gained its place in the area by providing great service. With Sam Lightwing our amazing chef serving locally sourced produce. We have a good selection of ales, wines and spirits all competitively priced and a fantastic outside space in the beer garden at the rear and tables at the front. We welcome walkers with dogs as we ourselves are pet lovers however the restaurant side is pet free. Latest table for food if with a dog is 6pm It is difficult for us to keep tables free in the bar side any later, especially in the summer months. Food is served throughout the pub so not to worry, you can still enjoy great food in a relaxed atmosphere with your four legged friend at your side. Why not try our Sunday lunch? We offer 1, 2 and 3 course offers with A choice of three meats and a vegetarian option. We regularly update our specials board with local game such as Pheasant and Grouse and because we prepare everything fresh on site we can adjust to suit all tastes.

We had Sunday lunch here and were very impressed with the quality of the food and also the very attentive service. All the ingredients are locally sourced and the entire meal was beautifully cooked and presented..The creamed leek accompanyment was just delicious, and the fruit crumble was yummy.. The portions were well judged and to cap it of,the bill was a pleasant surprise. £40 for 2 courses including drinks reflected excellent value for money. They definately have got it right in this pub, and we have no hesitation in recommending to all.. and we will most certainly be calling again.

We booked a table here a few weeks ago as we were staying down the road at Runkswick Bay. Having read positive reviews about it, expectations were high. And it didn't disappoint. The service was fab - very friendly, welcoming and attentive. The food was also great. Our party of two both had the burgers which were cooked to perfection, accompanied by big hand cut chips. Good selection of drinks at the bar too. Happily recommend this place!

This pub/restaurant is a gem. Apparently simple food is served with absolute attention to detail and with total respect to the high quality ingredients. We had meals on two nights and everything was spot on. The hosts are attentive and caring whilst leaving you with ample space to enjoy the food and experience. The meat is procured from the local butcher over the road with other ingredients being sourced from within a 20 mile radius. The steak was perfectly cooked and tasty. Fish, fresh and well cooked. The pizza was delightful and of a high standard. Desserts were equally enjoyable. Worth going out of your way for. Suggest you book though. Deservedly very popular. Good car park, bus stop close nearby (X4/X4a). Thank you.

Excellent dining experience beginning with a very warm friendly welcome. Andy and Steve run a very tight ship in respect of the Covid restrictions and booking is essential as saw at least a dozen couples turned away who unfortunately had popped in on the off chance of a table being free!
Both the steaks we had were of a very good size, superior quality, tender, juicy and flavoursome. They were certainly more generous than the weight the menu stated. The chips were delicious triple cooked and the accompanying pepper sauce superb!
Can certainly recommend this pub as we also ate on Tuesday night at the Pizza Pasta night.

We had a brilliant meal last night. We were served by the polite Andy. We presume he is or is one of the Badger Hounds owners. The food was wonderful. Well thought out dishes. Beautiful homemade bread and a caramelised onion chutney to die for.
The skewered king prawns were succulent and my pork medallions with a mixture of perfectly cooked vegetables was great. A side order of twice cooked chunky chips were also a winner.
Finished off with bread and butter pudding. Wow...What a dish! I have been a trip advisor reviewer for many years and always try to be fair and constructive. What you get at Badger Hounds is a lovely welcome, excellent and creative food and wonderfully relaxed service.
This is top quality dining with incredible value for money. No pretentious fine dining nonsense here that many fall prey to, where the over the top presentation still does not amount to a meal that could satisfy a small child. Cannot wait to return!
We are gutted that we don't live nearby although we are sure to return.
We are gutted that we do not live nearby but we are sure to visit here again! Many thanks Badger Hounds.
Gutted that we live so far away but when in this picturesque again it will definitely be our go to place.

We stumbled on this amazing place last night. Popped in on the of chance of a table unfortunately they had no availability. We stayed for a drink and started to google some takeaways, when the owner came over apologetic for not having space and said he would find us a quite spot and grab us a menu. We were so so happy. Food was amazing. Thanks so so much.

We booked this pub after I did research before our holiday and this menu looked great with something for everyone. On arriving we found it was curry night with no other options. A new menu for Fridays that wasn’t advertised on the website nor outside the pub, in fact we saw them run outside to display the menu after they’d realised . Seemed like poor planning as several tables we spoke with were unhappy and one even left. Not that people hate curry it just wasn’t what was advertised. Even when booking via email no mention was made of this new curry only menu. They spoke to the chef and offered three other dishes as they acknowledged it hadn’t been displayed on the website, which was something but they weren’t dishes we would have ordered normally and at £15 each were quite expensive for meals we wouldn’t normally order. Thought I’d planned really well finding this place on our holiday but really disappointed.

Wed night was the normal menu, my Sirloin steak with all the trimmings was the Best Steak i have had in 10 years. This place is a must visit, the guys are so friendly, the food is amazing, nicely decorated, great vibe. The guys have totally nailed it & deserve the customers flocking in.

What can we say, this was an absolute treasure, and just a short stroll from our holiday cottage in Hildenwell. From the minute we walked in the door, the warmth of welcome from Andy & Steve was amazing, the atmosphere and engaging personalities just draw you in, whether you are just enjoying a drink, or lucky enough to be dining. We did both, including Sunday lunch, and a sumptuous last night meal on Friday evening. A wide choice of drinks, the ladies enjoyed white wines, and several of the numerous gins, whilst UUs gents opted for draught, either Corona ot Black Sheep. We opted for 3 courses on Sunday lunch, finishing with the Nutella waffle (pictured), it was delicious. Our Friday night meal was equally delectable, with a noteworthy mention of the special I had as a starter, the mussels…oh my god! Booking is essential, this place is absolutely divine, and a credit to the two lovely hosts, do pay it a visit, you’ll not regret it. Thank you (Geoff, Jill, Alan & Tina)

We were staying nearby and wanted to eat here on a Tuesday evening, but wanted to eat outside. Sent a message on Facebook on the Monday requesting this. Had no reply but as it was closed on Monday, I tried calling after they opened at 5p.m. on Tuesday. I rang 10 times and someone else also tried. The line was either engaged or rang out. We eventually gave up and decided to go in person. At 6p.m. I went in and was told they didn't serve food outside, and they were fully booked. I explained that I had messaged and was basically told that I hadn't, as he answers every message. When I explained we had phoned numerous times, I was told that it must have been before 5, when they weren't open. I told him when I had called and was offered a table 2 hours later. Sorry, but no thanks. I'm sure your food is delicious, but I'd rather go where my custom is valued

Unfortunately there are two FB pages one from the previous owner and we cannot also do not have access to it . On our page we ask to make reservations via email. Most people email via our website which is an obvious way of communicating with us . We are often booked up a week in advance. However you were offered a table which you refused ?????? but continued to sit in our garden , really don’t understand???

This was our first visit to the Badger Hounds & we have already booked our next one. Covid measures were visibly in place. Service was excellent. The menu provided interesting choices. We had peppered squid & chicken skewers to start - both tasty. To follow we both settled on pan fried cod on a bed of tagliatelle & tiger prawns. The fish was very tasty & cooked to perfection. I highly recommend a visit.

Stayed in Hinderwell for a week between Christmas and New Year. We were in a cottage just across the road so called in a few times for a drink. Ate their twice including New Year’s Eve, on both occasions the food was exceptional especially the fish pie. Andy and Stephen are very welcoming hosts and obviously work very hard. The decor in the restaurant and bar is very tasteful. On Friday night and New Years Eve there was live music from Roddy Gordon Band, excellent musician’s. BUT come on you locals, where were you. Wish we were lucky enough to have such a good pub/restaurant with live music in our village.

We called in hopping to get an evening meal. Unfortunately they were fully booked but they did offer a takeaway service.
We were very lucky and got a table so we could eat inside
We wouldn’t have normally ordered a pizza and pasta meal but we were very impressed with the quality of the food all freshly prepared and homemade
Staff went the extra mile to accommodate us for which we thank them
Food exceptional and fresh book a table and you won’t be disappointed

Visited Friday night without a reservation and were welcomed by the very friendly and personable hosts. Excellent choice of food. I had the fish pie from the specials board and I can honestly say it was the best I have ever tasted. It was packed with a selection of fish and tasted sensational. I would recommend this pub without hesitation. Everything about it was superb. The ambiance, quality of food and the very friendly, attentive hosts.

What a wonderful treat 😊. The best Sunday roast we have had in a long time and staff were very obliging in adapting my husband's meal to gluten free. A lovely welcome (including biscuits) for our dog too. Thoroughly recommend this lovely pub/restaurant.
