Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

REVIEW BY DR H C MATTHEW SIM - Good food. Good service. Crowded. Worth visiting as tourist. Order the roast suckling pig. Waiter will use the plate to chop the roast pig and smash plate on floor. Good showmanship. Regards Dr H C Matthew Sim

Service was really awful. The waiter shown unpleasant face and made “Jeep” sound to us due to he can’t communicate with us by English. Our reservation was booked at 1630 which was the last available time slot, we were pushed to order immediately after sitting...down without any time to read the menu. The waiter stared at us fiercely at 1730 but the most ridiculous thing was we were not told the restaurant is close early on the New Year Eve. We all had to leave in a rush at that time. It’s the worst meal we ever had in our life!!More

Visiting the beauty city of Segovia is not complete if you do not visit Don Cándido's restaurant. The most famous dish is " Cochinillo", a tender pork meat that is not only delicious but tender and full of flavor. You must see Don Cándido explain...the history of the restaurant and the way they cut the pork with a plate.More

Bad service, so so atmosphere and average food. I think the service bothered me the most. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

An amazing place. Great food, beautiful location, a place with history. We sat by the window overlooking the aqueduct. The owner performed an interesting ceremony before cutting the pork. Definitely an experience!@

Good in parts but spoiled by the attitude. The setting is spectacular, sitting outside in the fading evening sunshine sets the scene for a great evening. Courses were ordered with a decent red wine, but before we could eat the waiter knocked over the wine...bottle spilling about a third. Apologies made, the table relayed and starters served. Asparagus salad, baked aubergine, both quite good. The roasted suckling pig was as good as expected and enjoyed. When the bill came problems started. There was no ink in the printer so I’d no idea what we were being charged for. No explanation offered. It was unprofessional and I said so. On taking the blank paper to some illuminated signage I found that I’d been charged for a full bottle of red wine. On complaint this was reduced to a half bottle but priced at a half bottle rate not half the price of the full bottle. No particular apology, just a shrug. A good evening spoilt.More

Totally up its own fundament. Food is ok but service is temperamental which is probably a product of its positioning and resulting entitlement. You are also subject to the performative religious worship of the various studente groups in the square. I would try the other...restaurants down the street who probably have to make more of an effort.More

Very nice Meson with great food traditional lechón Segoviano. Candido did a great job cutting the lechón. Please be advised that a lechón and its show is served for groups larger than 8 persons., otherwise you will not be able to enjoy it.

The only good thing about this restaurant is the view. Prices were extremely high and food was not worth it at all. Even the bread that we didn’t order came with a fee!!! Also the table and the dishes were terribly dirty and the staff...was rude. Do not recommend this to anyone.More

Even though it has a long history, it's not as good as it used to be. Other than the roasted suckling pig, which was decent, every dish was a disappointment. The soup had no flavor and the bread was very dry, not even worth eating...for free. The prices were expensive, and the food was not worth it. I definitely wouldn't recommend anyone to try it. More

Terrible Experience I was in a trip through North Spain for a professional meeting, several colleagues talk about Segóvia and the famous cochonillo. I decided to change my trip to come to Segóvia and the Famous Meson Candido. It was one of the worst gastronomic...experience of my life. Service extremely unprofessional, food very disappointing and the famous cochonillo, a peace of pork in the dish. Terrible situation. I left the restaurant very disappointed. As a tourist, I felt as somebody pick pocket. Extremely below our expectationsMore

Dining here is a bit chaotic. You go to the upstairs check in, and whether or not you have reservations, you just put your name down and hope to get seated. It probably only took 10 minutes to get a table, but it wasn't without...stress. We sat down in one of their many historic rooms, which was very interesting, but squished between other larger parties. The pig itself is fantastic, and delicious, though I might argue the suckling pork in Portugal was a tad better. But the chaotic environment didn't lend itself to easy eating, and we made the trek from Madrid essentially to eat at this historic restaurant. However, the famous owner came out, had a big speech while serving whole pigs to the big party next to us, and smashed a plate on the ground so we got a show with our meal!More

Excellent lunch at the famous Candido. The piglet was delicious, and the judiones soup incredible. Service is attentive, and we requested a ground floor table and got it.
