La Gavina has a wonderful 'people watching' location, excellent and knowledgeable staff, a charming host (Miguel), and consistently good food served in an elegant manner. When friends visit me in Barcelona, this is where I come.

Expensive (about three times more than the prices in a non-touristy restaurant in Barcelona), but good service and good food. The terrace is always crowded with people that enjoy watching the passers by, but inside you can easily find a place without needing a reservation.

You can sit outside (by the harbor) in good weather or inside as well. We loved the Rioja wine, the paella's and desserts. It's a romantic setting with quality food.

We stumbled upon La Gavina at the end of a long day of walking and sightseeing. Excellent choice! Good sangria, lovely little hors d'oeuvres, a single salad of very fresh greens etc. (that easily could have served two), marvelous seafood paella. The setting is on the yacht harbor with a 180° view from the patio. Very relaxed, as Spain should... More

It's a really beautiful spot here by the harbour and the ambience is lovely. That's the main positive. Otherwise the potatoes were stale and dry, the paella greasy and very pricey for what you had. Try elsewhere.

I loved this area of Barcelona. Stopped in to La Gavin's for dinner. The person seating me was rude as well as my waiter. My waiter actually had the audacity to grab my purse off of the seat next to me and put it on the concrete ground. I noticed him doing this out of the corner of my eye.... More

Return visit for us so we were really looking forward to it. We ate quite early in the evening so it was almost empty, the staff were therefore attentive and very helpful. And patient. We kept chatting and not looking at the menu but they seemed happy for us to take our time. We had a selection of tapas, and... More

We had a rude server and host. Food was average. Beautiful location. The wine server was unhelpful and never around. Our waiter who took our order was unfriendly and and not welcoming.

Framed in the restored Palau del Mar building since 1993, at the foot of the Mediterranean Sea, but with history andexperience accumulated since the 1930's. Mediterranean and seafood cuisine, with a large terrace in front of the harbor that has a capacity for 400 guests. New fully equipped indoor dining rooms where, as well as tasting our gastronomy, to hold meetings, presentations or conferences. We evolve respecting the tradition and the flavor of our dishes.

Staying in Barceloneta

Neighbourhood Profile
Originally a fisherman’s quarter, this quaint area can’t escape its small village feel: laundry hanging over the narrow streets, old ladies clamoring at each other from their balconies and elder gentlemen playing games on short wooden benches gossiping the day away, Barceloneta could double as a film set. Artists line the boardwalk displaying their magnificently detailed sand structures making this the most visited beach in the city (the shirtless men working out might help too). You’ll know by the delicious aroma that you're in the right place to try some of the best and most authentic seafood including paella, Spain’s national dish.
