Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Large venue with lots of options including outside. Best to call in advance to reserve. Food and service excellent and lots of choice. Enjoyed tomate alinado and a fantastic parillada de pescado with 6 different fillets of fish. Wine very well priced and nicely chilled...in a proper wine bucket.More

Have eaten at this restaurant a few times the latest being 4 nights ago stunning meal We booked for tonight to have a special meal to finish our holiday and wow what a serious disappointment to the point we walked out On arrival was pointed...to our table then the staff stood at the bar showing no interest in us which was amazing we was the only couple in the place not even given a menu Once we ordered the starter turned up half of what we ordered and thrown on the table by the surly waitress no speaking turned her back and walked away We asked for some sweet chilli dip for the squid as a starter got mayonnaise and then the head waiter brought a bottle of chilli sauce Having put about half a tea spoon on my plate I dipped a piece of squid into it, just enough to put a 5mm smear on it The effect was horrendous my mouth was on fire to the point my eyes were watering Taste buds totally ruined Any fish restaurant would know that level of chilli would ruin a fish meal The staff this night are to blame EAT HERE AT YOUR PERILMore

Service staff were great. Food was even better. We were quite a large table (13 including 1 high chair) and we opted to do a bit of a tapas style order with just loads of food and we all share… worked perfectly. In particular the...Russian Salad, Prawns and Spinach and Peppered Steak were all amazing. Portion sizes were good too. We’ve been most times we’ve visited family in Gib but we’ll definitely be back again too.More

It was an early evening meal (19.00) so the restaurant had few other diners and we had plenty of attentive staff. Efficient service therefore.. Of a good menu of seafood choices, we both chose the mixed fish grill of Salmon, Squid, Swordfish, Gambas, Tuna, etc....Served with new potatoes and a garlic butter drizzle. Very nice but some green veg would have been appreciated. The restaurant is as little off the main square located next to a busy road and although secreted behind bamboo screens obviously the road noise intruded. Might not have been so obvious inside. The main square is packed with restaurants which were a lot busier with customers than The Oceans I guess due to their location at the end of the Main Street. Not necessarily an indicator of good food however. All in all if you are looking for seafood in Gibraltar then try The Oceans, we were glad we did.More

Well, what an anti climax to what we thought was going to be a great meal. So we looked at the reviews, picked on the basis we wanted good seafood and steak..... all of us were disappointed. Ordered our food and asked for grilled squid.....not...available - so needed to order something else. Ordered drinks - wine was great and good value - lager was good and a nice pint. Ordered starter of ham croquettes - good quality and enjoyable. Ordered mains of fillet steak(medium rare) and red mullet and another dosh of prawns. Fish didn't come with a finger bowl(also, we never asked). I sent steak back as it was cold and under cooked on one side (meat was tepid to the touch on back of finger). Few moments later steak returned, better cooked - however I doubt it was fillet as it was tough as old boots, even after I asked for a sharper knife. I only ate a ¼ and gave up on cutting the meat. The fish wasn't the best seafood and that's the opinion of my 10 year old (well travelled and eats well) daughter. Server asked about steak when clearing plates, I gave feedback and it wasn't charged to the bill. We still gave a 10% tip for the service - however opinion is divided between the family as tobif it was justified. Would I return - NO Would I recommend - NOMore

This was recommended by our tour guide so we stopped in for lunch right as they opened. They were incredulous that would ask for a table without a reservation and acted like it was a great miracle they had a table for us despite being..."fully booked." Of course, by the time we were done 90 minutes later barely anyone else had even shown up. Our waiter wasn't exactly rude, but wasn't friendly either. Despite having a full bar they "don't make drinks." A ridiculous policy, as if they only serve drinks neat or on the rocks. Really left me in a sour mood. The food ranged from bleh to mediocre. Way overpriced compared to every other meal we had (but the currency is partly to blame for that). We left disappointed.More

We visited 2 nights ago and got the catch of the day, a 4kg Sea bream. Wow! There’s not many words to describe it, absolutely fantastic. There were 5 of us and we just about got through it. A bargain at £150 for the fish...with 3 sides. Will visit againMore

As the name suggests , this restaurant specialises in fish and seafood although there are other dishes available. Located at the Ocean Vikkage roundabout with Gauchos opposite. Lovely terrace. Relaxed atmosphere. Efficient and friendly staff. The sea bream was excellent.

I've visited the Ocean in the past when I was pescetarian. However, since I went fully vegetarian I realise the few options here are actually pretty poor. The pimento asado salad was good. I had also ordered a paella, without the seafood. Unfortunately it was...pretty clear that the vegetables in the paella were very much from frozen. It was pretty bland as a result. Could easily be improved by using fresh ingredients. A good paella should be able to deliver on its own without needing the seafood to give it flavour.More
