Two different paellas, two salads, wine, agua, couvert = plenty for a hungry group of six adults. Gracias! Me gusta mucho!

A year ago I wrote a review of this place. Now, returning to Madrid with a friend, we took her there for dinner because she wanted paella. Ventorrillo Murciano was every bit as good as last year, except better, because with more people we could order more rice (paella) dishes to sample. We had one seafood and one pork &... More

An interenting place in Madrid for tasting mediterranean rice. We ordered a banda" and "arroz con conejo y verduras" and excelent anchovies as starter. Everything was tasty, specially the rice, tiny and charming place with polite service. My favorite one was the "arroz con conejo" (rice with vegetables and rabbit) . Uf you are in a group of people, order... More

We wanted authentic paella in a neighborhood place not filled with a sea of tourists. Located four short blocks south of the Anton Martin metro stop, Ventorrillo fit our desires. It is small and features a simple menu focused on the food and wines of the Murcia region. We chose the arroz (paella) with langostinos, clams, king and regular prawns,... More

Great wine and paella. Nice and welcoming staff. Great paella is not something you come across cheaply, and the one at this place is 18 per person which is reasonable.

We found this restaurant based on a recommendation of a friend, and we were very happy with our dinner. Terrific paella and terrific service. Our waiter didn't speak English, and our Spanish is not great, but we figured it out and had a great experience. Americans are definitely not used to paying for bread or tap water, but that seems... We enjoyed one of our favourite paellas ever at this cozy, professional, friendly and very high-quality restaurant. Seafood paella is tricky to get right, but this restaurant knows what they are doing, down to the smallest details. And the fresh salad we had before the paella was excellent - each ingredient carefully chosen and in perfect/seasonal condition. Be sure to... More

I love everything about this restaurant tho a bit pricey. I know it's diffucult to find but it's worth it. Their fish version of serrano ham was amazing and all the food we tasted were delicious. I wasn't so sure about the fruit wrapped or inserted with lemon leaves as it didn't taste fresh for me. Try their white wine... More

I've been to this restaurant many times in the past 10 years, it's one of our favorites. It serves excellent Murcian-style rice dishes. Those looking for a Valencian-style "paella" should not come here. You can find those, cooked well or (more likely) horribly, all over Madrid. It's a cozy restaurant with excellent service and food: the best of Murcia's vegetable... More

This restaurant came highly recommended to us as a Paella restaurant off the beaten path. Who wants to go into a tourist trap. Unfortunately we were highly disappointed. We didn't mind that the place was a bit difficult to find, that gave us hope. There was no parking room for tour buses, that added to it. The place itself is... More

Staying in Lavapies

Neighbourhood Profile
Lavapies
Walking into this neighbourhood is like entering a different country ... except it's hard to tell which one it is. One side of Calle Lavapiés is lined with Indian restaurants, the other with kebab shops. Men in traditional African clothing convene outside their businesses for long chats, and people shout to each other across plazas and streets. Interspersed among ethnic specialty shops are independent theaters and dance studios, and two large arts and cultural centers — the beautiful Casa Encendida and the Tabacalera, a former tobacco factory — all of which attract young crowds. Along Calle Argumosa, the place to go for drinks, artists and art appreciators with piercings and dreadlocks convene in the street’s eclectic array of young, hip bars. Though some of the side streets can get a little seedy at night, Lavapiés is still the place to go for those seeking a unique blend of arts and culture in an international and funky neighbourhood.
