Great service and cozy local restaurant. Our first time having Cocido Madrileño after so many friends telling me about it. Delicious!

We enjoyed a dinner of real paella here this week. The meal was what I was looking for, and happened to be the "menu of the day" which included a nice tapas selection, authentic paella, a jarra of sangria, bread, a traditional Spanish salad. (Dessert not included.) Sitting outside was fun in the very pleasant Madrid evening weather, but I... More

The meal was good, plenty of dishes arrived as we requested, we were looking for authenticity over anything else, and I was happy with what we found. We were a group of 8.

Our tour guide had told us that the "Meson"s on Calle Cava de San Miguel (just outside Plaza Mayor) were worth going to for dinner and that Don Carnal was one he'd recommend. It's more spacious inside than you might expect (it was a cold evening so we didn't consider sitting out). Service was cheerful and friendly and we all... More

In Madrid it's not easy to find a good place to eat local dishes...so during our walks around the city center we found this nice place near to Mercado de San Miguel. Their paella menu was great with fish salad and divine croquettes. Paella and sangria really good! I also loved the vibe on the street due to the fact... More

Excellent menu del dis with plenty of choice for a very good price. Fast service and the wine was good. The blueberry cheesecake was delicious.

We wanted paella and found this uncrowded restaurant with a menu for 16€ pp. A good size vase of sangria, a pretty uninspiring salad and a decent paella (plenty for two) left us full and satisfied. I don't know the price of paella in Madrid but it seemed reasonable Sitting outside was 10% extra (or included tips in my opinion).

We enjoyed a mixture of tapas here...everything was tasty and well presented. The staff were lovely and coped well despite being busy. The only complaint was the paella was a bit dry and overheated.

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
