Having lived in Madrid for 2 years and not having been back for a couple of years it was great to see that the Alhambra is still a great place to meet. Friendly relaxed atmosphere in the heart of the city, tapas is always fresh and tasty, washed down with a few cold ones or a nice glass of wine.... More

The tapas were meat heavy. The staff were friendly. Opens early. Tinto de verano was about €12 for a very large pitcher. The drink came with croquettes.

Having lived in Madrid some years ago I recently returned for a weekend trip. This was my favourite place to eat during my time in Spain and was pleased to see that the food is just as good, if not better than those years ago. Very generous portion sizes. Patatas bravas are to die for and the paella is just... More

Popped in here for a late lunch. Chose the daily special for 12 e. First course was soup or paella. Second course was fish or chicken. This included a drink AND a dessert. We were so full and everything tasted homemade. Nice lively ambiance and pleasant servers. Highly recommend.

I'm a pescatarian so the paella was my choice (fantastic, massive serving) but the rest of my tribe devoured the 1kg t-bone & licked their happy lips afterwards. Hot chips & salad accompanied with the bread. Hot tip - no idea what it was but it was in a long blue bottle, €3 / glass under the white wine section.... More

Two times in our four days at Madrid! Best grilled Prawn, so fresh and grilled to perfect not dry at all! The Huevos Fritos Con Patats (fried potato wedge covered with broken eggs and top with jamon) was so delicious! The sangria and other drinks are cheap. The service was great, even though when we went the second time on... More

We went to Alhambra for a late lunch because of the good reviews and were disappointed. We ordered several recommended dishes and each was overpriced and not very good.

Tucked down a side street this bar/restaurant was a great find. A bar with a lot of characture and atmosphere and very friendly helpful staff. Great selection of drinks, draught beers and tapas. The restaurant is annexed to the bar and has a very good menu, reasonably priced. A very nice place to spend a few hours drinking beer, vermut... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
