Friendly and efficient service, welcome amuse bouche and mini cocktail, well thought out menu...what's not to like. On a hot day to come to this sophisticated (air conditioned) space to enjoy a starter of chilled creamy burrata with red pesto and black olive soil was luxury. Recommend Wagyu beef, suckling pig.....All delicious. Be careful! The portions are generous and we... More

The service was quite cold, and too quick, not relaxed at all. The menu was quite different to most other restaurants and the descriptions didn't help really. Maybe we chose badly but everything we had was very greasy, and quite unpleasant to eat. We asked for water which was served not chilled, but the wine was good. Our waiter never enquiries if... Delicious food served in an excellent atmosphere by nice friendly staff, really impressed with the menu, a nice 'modern twist' and taking into consideration, the location, the decor, the excellent wine, it was very reasonably priced, a most enjoyable evening

Fusion cuisine with loads of creativity, all wrapped with an astonishing presentation. Very kind and helpful staff. A must visit place in Madrid.

Our first night in Madrid, we arrived fairly early (by Spanish standards) and were seated right away, even without reservations. We were quite pleased with the service and the food. Complimentary hummus appetizer was tasty; also provided a complimentary drink. All of our meals were delicious -- butterfish, iberian pork stir-fry, steak.

We visited on a Friday night. Staff were so helpful. Table linen. Every detail looked after. Complimentary aperitif. Amuse bouche. Staff very helpful in answering queries about the menu. Shared starter. Delicious main courses. Waiter recommended wine. Coffee. Total bill €61 . A night to remember

I have seen other reviews commenting that El Abrazo de Vergara has declined, and unfortunately, we found the same to be true when we visited again last night. This had been our favorite restaurant in Madrid with out of this world food and service. When we arrived last night, only a few tables had diners (it was a Friday night... More

This restaurant was recommended in our guide book and I'm so glad we followed the recommendation - very cosy restaurant with innovative modern gourmet tapas. When we visited in November 2015 they didn't have an English version of the menu and unfortunately we don't speak Spanish but the staff were really helpful and we had a delicious meal. I would... Great cozy place near the Palacio Real. We ordered 2 entrées: Brie cheese and Foie with apples, they were both fantastic! For the main we had the oxtail lasagna and the mushroom risotto which again were both really good and well prepared and served. Recommended for the great food and service and a more quiet laid back meal.

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
