Good cuban food. I loved the pollo dish. It is central and everyone was very helpful. Small list of dishes.

I am a neighbour of Borax and live on the next street up. I've walked by it on so many occasions and never gone in (either in this or in any of its previous incarnations), so one Saturday when one of the workers asked me in to try "delicious Cuban food", I decided to take him up on his offer.... Very bad service. The waiter was rude and impolite. He came with a meal we didn't order and charged us for it.

We coincidentially walked into Borax. However it turned out to be a good choice. The staff are friendly and the food is good.

We didn't know where to go for lunch in the area, so we went in. First, the staff was really welcoming and helpful all the meal, they were really friendly and had not problems explaining us the menu. The food was good, portions are big and the price is fair. We will come back for a mojito evening in the... More

Set in the quiet area just North of Chuea, Borax was not somewhere that we planned to go. However, the aroma wafting out from the restaurant made us pop our heads around the door. The bar area is quite trendy - lots of cocktails and wines. The restaurant area is quite small, but well designed. The menu is a mixture... More

Wide variety on the menu ranging from mediteranean to cuban food. Food was tasty and servings generous for very good value. Staff is friendly and welcoming. Recommended for an simple but nice lunch or dinner with friends.

Staying in Chueca

Neighbourhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
