Casa Gerardo is a very old tavern / wine cellar in Madrid and has kept faithful to its original concept. You will only find cold dishes here, mainly different varieties of cheese (all of them delicious in their own style), quality pickles and wine. It's a very simple combination but a incredible experience in taste and textures. No sofistication, just... More

Went to this place based on the trip advisor reviews and at first I was not too sure. It was late afternoon and fairly quiet, however I had just arrived in Madrid and wanted to eat somewhere close by based on reviews. I had cod and peppers and really enjoyed it. The waiter spoke little English and I can only... More

During our four night stay in Madrid we managed to squeeze in two visits to this wonderful establishment. I got it recomended from a friend and he was correct, a nice athmosphere and great staff combined with good tastful food and wine. This combined with fair prices made it a great experience.

had a great wine-and-cheese feast at casa gerardo last night with a friend - the "gamoneu" (pungent blue cheese from asturias) was the highlight of the evening! good service and packed to the rafters!

It was like stepping back into history. There is nothing fancy here but food is very simple and tastes so delicious. For lovers of simple traditional food. Don't come if you are into molecular cousine.

Another recommended bar on our route around La Latina. Just the one caña each with which we were given a tapa of aceituna/pepino/anchoa. 4.20€. Very nice and we will call in here again.

This place is really nice: they serve a lot of different wines, cheeses and patés. Out waitress was a very sweet lady who really took her time to help us, even though is was a bit busy. Very good value for money. Would defenitely go there again and recommend this place to others. Nice and authentic.

The best selection of wines by the glass in Madrid. At least 20, with the most expensive topping out at €2.80. The complimentary tapas are top quality, no olives here. Very old bar with a great atmosphere.

Staying in La Latina

Neighbourhood Profile
La Latina
La Latina is a charming neighbourhood with two unique personalities. At first glance, it’s distinctly old-world, with narrow streets weaving a maze among charming stone buildings in sunny, bright colors like yellow and pink. The other side of La Latina is characterized by a young population and a bohemian vibe, as evidenced by a dynamic and evolving selection of new bars, shops, coworking spaces, and other businesses popping up in the area. In the northern part of the neighbourhood, the Cava Alta and Cava Baja streets constitute the tapas center of Madrid, where each age-old restaurant serves up distinctive specialties like huevos rotos and patatas bravas. Locals have come here for generations to while away hours over drinks and tapas with friends. On Sundays and public holidays, the streets to the south of La Latina metro station transform into a giant open-air market full of locals sifting through tent after tent of art, apparel, and antiques. Any day of the week, the intriguing blend of the traditional and the hip make the streets of La Latina worth exploring.
