The restaurant is located near the Gran Via on the business and entertainment district of Madrid. It used to be visited by Ernest Hemingway(El Callejon) when he stayed in Madrid. Nowadays, it is under a new administration and rename Cuando Sali de Cuba or When I left Cuba , a popular song sang by Celia Cruz. The food is good,... More

I think it is always a good sign when the place is full of locals which was the case when we went out for lunch yesterday We were happily surprised by the speedy attentive service and the bill was 95 euros for give of us including wine, beers and puddings. I give it a 4/5 as I would have liked... More

My husband and I are Puerto Rican and are on vacation in Spain for 10 days, we went on our 9th day. We were going through some serious Carrobean food withdrawal. This was excellent and reasonably priced.

Two days ago we saw an add that today a live band will be on site, when asked the bartender, without looking at our face he replied there is no band and the add it's old, he added, if there is any live music it will be some other day. When I tried to make my statement on the sign... More

My friend and I found this gem one Friday night while looking for a place to eat. We were in search of something hearty and this was the perfect place! The service was amazing and the Ropa Vieja dish was spot on. If you're looking for something other than tapas and paella, this is the place to go!

We met the chef--she's from Cuba, and her offerings are authentically Cuban. The restaurant has a very relaxed atmosphere, and the clientele are locals---meaning it's not a tourist restaurant. We ordered an appetizer and main courses. However, other costumers ordered several appetizers--also a good option. Service was warm and friendly!

I was here with an American friend, recommended by her and didn't regret it. Good food for a good price. We were outside in the sun, on the street. They don't have a real terrace, you sit at a table in a very quite street.

We had returned from Toledo on the day we visited this delightful small Cuban restaurant and were out investigating some of the local bars having a few drinks. This place appealed as it had some outside seating and was just off the main drag as to speak and as such we thought it would be friendlier and a little cheaper.... More

Delicious Cuban food- we had the shrimp enchiladas and ropa vieja and both were great. Definitely get the combo meal so you get rice, tostones and salad!

Good cuban restaurant near Gran Via, not a very fancy place but food is good and prices are ok. We paid 40€ for two main dishes a bottle of wine and a bottle of mineral water. We went there at 20:30 so we managed to get a table even though we had no reservation.

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
