We really enjoyed the food. The chorizo was the best chorizo we have ever had. We didn't book a table, as I thought it wouldn't be that crowded at 4 pm. I was wrong. We waited for a while but the food was worth waiting for. There were some extra treats like gazpacho and a glass of wine.

We really enjoyed our night out at El Gaucho. The staff were all pleasant and helpful, and attentive without being pushy. The meal was great, we all really enjoyed the food, and it was very plentiful. The extras were a nice touch and rounded the meal off nicely. We would certainly go again.

Overall very nice, Champagne on arrival, bread and crackers with some cheese to nibble whilst we ordered. Friend was impressed with the wine, I stuck to beer. Sirloin steak was very nice (with pepper sauce). Slightly under-cooked as a medium in my eyes, but I'm not too fussy. Others may be a little put off by this! Service was good... More

Not recommended. Beef was not good :( reviews were good but the food was totally awful. I would recommend more traditional Spanish restaurants

We visited this restaurant on our first night and were not disappointed. The serving staff are friendly but spoke little English but they do have their menus in English. We were greeted with a free pink cava. Servings were large but very tasty. I had the steak which I enjoyed very much and likewise my wife enjoyed her ribs. My... More

I've been there while working a few days in Madrid. I've been literally amazed by the fantastic energy of the people working in the kitchen. Just looking at the way the meat is prepared is a must. This is not only a show for the eyes but the food is excellent, served in friendly manner. This is not sophisticated of... More

We wanted to go to Vila Brasil but felt it was too far out so we chose El Gaucho somewhat reluctantly. We were in for a surprise as it was a great night. It´s easy to feel you have come to the wrong place from the outside and the bar area but the restaurant at the back is a class... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
